A perfect retreat for a tranquil and beautiful holiday. The cottage is compact, warm and well furnished for a family of four to stay comfortably (including two teens) with all the commodities you need (washer, drier, microwave,wi fi etc). The views are of the peak of the Snaefell glacier to one side and the sea to the other. Plenty of walks from the doorstep, many more with a short drive. A joy in the total lack of comemrcialism in the area, and lots of walking, scrambling, waterfalls, horse riding. The golden circle and whale watching in Reykjavik are possible to do in one day with lots of driving. Only thing to watch for is to ensure you get your holiday supplies in from one of the larger cheaper stores on the way to the cottage. Details are given by the owners on booking, however we were caught out as we never managed to get to the larger (cheaper stores) during opening times, and they are not close. There is a more local small store which is not as well stocked and is more expensive (NB. vegetarians will struggle as fresh produce was not brilliant) but the drive to it round the glacier and stunning views meant it was never problem to go there. Overall, a great hoiday filled with walks, scrambles, horse riding and realaxing in a perfect location in a clean and comfortable cottage.The owners are helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend this property as a base to explore West Iceland.

Nice vacation - Nice house

We stayed for a week in this lovely cottage and can surely recommend this house. When we were planning our trip to Iceland the owner was very helpful in any way with all kind of information´s that we needed as this was our first visit to Iceland. Thank you for all your help Jacob. The house was very clean, looked like new, warm and well organized. The beds are very comfortable and other furniture’s like new and a nice video collection (for those two rainy days that we had). Overall, this is a great house and spetacular surroundings. We spent our days exploring the area, there is a lot of hiking rails to explore and things to see. Good informations and maps are in the house. We took a day trip to Flatey in Breidafjordur and that is a must see. It’s like going back a hundred years.

Top of the trip to Iceland

On our trip around Iceland we stayed en four cottages and this one was the best one, no doubt. The cottage was very clean and a welcome gift (sweet on the pillow) waited us when we arrived and gave us this nice welcome feeling. The decorating was perfect down to details and exceeded our expectations. All equipment’s are first class and we did not find anything missing and where even surprised to find an espresso machine. A big patio is surrounding the house and view to the great glacier, mountains and the sea. We are most happy to recommend this cottage if you plan to go to Iceland, and if you do... You must take a snowmobile trip to the top of the 1400 meter high glacier in a clear weather. You feel like you are on the top of the world and the landscape view is breathtaking. The trip is from Arnarstapi (small village 5 min away) and takes about 2 hours.

A perfect house by the sea

We can warmly recommend this house to anyone visiting Iceland. By driving up to Hellnar you get to see the "real" Iceland with spectacular scenery and lots of small cultural experiences.
The house is small but perfectly designed which means that it never feels small. It's in great condition, very clean, sea views and with "that little extra" in terms om comfort and homeliness. For example, readymade beds, a little chest of toys and some Icelandic cd's to listen to. The instructions beforehand and in the house made the stay a piece of cake.
Whilst on the cake subject we can also recommend the cafe down by the sea (about 500m away) which serves great cakes and food at really good value (as well as beer and wine at the more normal Icelandic prices).
A recommendation is to buy food in Borganes on the way up as it's at least a thirty minute drive to the nearest shop.
All in all, we would strongly recommend staying in this house to anyone visiting Iceland.

Great house – Unbelievable surrounding

This house is fantastic, brand new and very well furnished with everything that we needed. The landscape and the nature over there are breathtaking. We were so lucky to see the northern lights one evening, what an experience… The owner was very friendly and helpful. We are planning to come again the summer 2012 and see this nature in the midnight sun and maybe take a sledding trip to the Glacier. We definitely recommend this house for adventure seeking or just romantic stay in this quiet area. Thank you. Jeremy & Ellen.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at this beautiful cottage! Not only was the cottage warm and inviting, but the central location was very convenient for our daily adventures. We loved the small village, many hiking routes in the area, and great views of the glacier, mountains and ocean. The owners where very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend staying at this fabulous place, and hope to return again!

wunderschönes Haus in optimaler Lage

Ich habe zusammen mit meinem Mann im Juli 2012 dieses sehr komfortable und gemütliche Haus für 9 Tage bewohnt und wir waren glücklich, dass wir gerade dieses Haus gewählt hatten. Es liegt in einer Gruppe ähnlicher Häuser, alle im gleichen nordischen Stil erbaut, wobei dieses Haus besonders ausgestattet ist durch einen eigenen Parkplatz und eine große umlaufende Holzterrasse, großen Gasgrill und Terrassenmöbel. Die Innenausstattung ist perfekt und wurde bereits durch viele andere Gäste entsprechend positiv beschrieben. Der Ort Hellnar ist die beste Adresse auf der gesamten Halbinsel wegen der günstigen Sonneneinstrahlung, Schutz vor rauen Nordwinden und seiner ausgezeichneten Lage am Fuße des Snaefells-Mountain.Die touristischen Höhepunkte der Halbinsel sind mit dem Auto gut zu erreichen und Wanderungen lassen sich direkt vom Haus aus unternehmen. Alle Gäste haben dieses Haus mit 5 Sternen bewertet. Dem können wir uns nur anschließen. Jakob, der Vermieter, kümmert sich mit großem Zeitaufwand und Engagement um seine Gäste. Er setzte sich bei einer Autopanne persönlich für uns ein und half bei einem Unfall, die beste ärztliche Versorgung rasch zu finden. Wir freuen uns auf ein persönliches Kennenlernen mit ihm und seiner Frau Elsa, wenn wir im Januar 2013 sein zweites Feriendomizil am Hvalfjördur bewohnen dürfen.
