Lovely apartment in magical Venice
This apartment was perfect for our needs. We were traveling with our two toddlers and needed a place to retreat to after sightseeing and to cook our own meals when needed. This apartment is equipped with everything you need, washing machine, stove/oven, TV (although its all Italian the kids still liked watching the toons) and lovely balconies overlooking a canal. It is well-maintained, clean and sound proof. We really enjoyed every moment of it, located very conveniently, not far from a grocery store and two vaporetto stops (yet far enough to enjoy the stillness and tranquility the area had to offer. There are more than enough restaurants and coffee bars in the area close by. Our host Renato, although we never met him face-to-face, was probably the most efficient and accommodating and friendly host we had on our trip. He is very kind, generous, prompt and accessible on email and I want to thank you for giving us such a great experience of Venice. He also sends you a very detailed welcome book with information on Venice and the apartment, maps etc. that we found very helpful. Thank you Renato and we hope to visit your apartment again soon! We highly recommend it!!

Venice for every age and every season
Casa Allegra holds it's name for true - allegra in italian means happy, serene - and we found it a comfortable and friendly home where we spent ten wonderful days. The apartment is light and spacious and clean. There have been four of us, my daughter aged eleven and my mother, aged eighty-one and my husband. There was room for us all and everybody was well.
Situated in the Cannareggion Sestiere the apartment is in the Center of Venice, Crossing four bridges you can get there from the Canale Grande, waterbus stop Ca d'Oro. Allthough it is in the center of the town it is a calm residence where you can slow down and relax after visiting and walking across the town and the crowdy streets.
We enjoyed very much the kitchen as we like very much to cook and Rialto (fish-)market is very easy to reach. You will find bakeries and groceries and supermarkets not far from the house and "gimi" will help you to get things home - gimi is a rolling shopping bag that every venetian household has because everything you want to eat or drink has to be brought home on your own. Preparing the wonderful fresh food from the market is a pleasure we don't want to miss - savouring the first tasty strawberres and different kinds of asparagus and many kinds of different salads is a great pleasure and - besides - eating out with four people every day sums up in Venice.
We have been there for the second time and we will come back I hope. I love waking up by the sound of water splashing the walls of the canal when boats are passing by, by the murmuring of people walking on the fondamente - sometimes at night they are also shouting - but it is a wonderful charming place to stay and to enjoy yourself and to enjoy Venice.

A little gem of an apartment!
We had a truly amazing time in this little gem of an apartment. Conveniently located at walking distance from all the attractions, yet still in a part that felt very 'genuine' it was the perfect spot for us. The apartment felt very clean and modern with all the appliances necessary in place, but with a personal touch that made it feel much more homely than a hotel room. Across the channel there are plenty of lovely bars and restaurants, especially one called Al Timon where we recommend getting a glass of prosecco. We had an amazing time and would love to come back again next year!

Charming Venetian beauty!
We stayed in this perfect and very charming apartment, great location and surrounded by Venetian canals. Our hosts were extremely helpful and very prompt with all the communications, we really enjoyed the 'Welcome to Casa Allegra & Venezia' pre-arrival package, which gave us clear directions so we didn't have any trouble finding our way and easy to find all the lovely local restaurants and food markets. In the home we found Venice guides and Venice maps and plus your tips given in the pre arrival folder made our stay so much more enjoyable than we hoped for. As its so close to the main street for shopping, we enjoyed it even better. It's a very well equipped, clean, safe and comfortable apartment. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to any of our friends.

Not what we expected
I would be very fair in my review knowing everyone has different standards.
Location - tucked away from the major sites..., yes, its right on the canal but it is one of the little canals... not that exciting. Mosquitoes !!! we got bitten by mosquitoes the first night. The unusually hot weather of high 90's very humid with no airconditioner made us leave the apartment the next day.
Amenities - very limited, the washer/dryer was not properly working.
Property - "Looks Clean but didn't feel Clean" Better in pictures than in person.
Customer Service - the main contact in Venice is a Venetian woman who is supposed to speak very little English ( from our experience, very little English meant NO English at all!) very frustrating. The email contact for the reservation was fast and prompt (Thanks Renato) but the property itself didn't deliver.

We always take the greatest care to ensure that all our guests are satisfied. Again we are very sorry the freak heat wave in Italy tarnished your Venice experience. However we noted the guests immediately before your dates and after your dates had NO such issues you had, and that they in fact made the best of the situation and genuinely enjoyed their time, although it was an unusual freak heat wave all over Italy, an unfortunate situation, comparable to a holiday in the tropics where it rains everyday due to a hurricane. We hope you understand this can not be our responsibility. What were you expecting?

1) Re. air-conditioner: you were fully aware there isn’t air-conditioning. We care for the environment and do as the locals: close the exterior wooden blinds daytime,keeps the heat out, it works a treat! We also put an extra floor fan especially prior to your arrival. In total 4 fans.
2) You complain of mosquitos, yet you’d be aware in summer, even in the USA, there's mosquito’s. We always provide our guests with anti-mosquito spiral repellent and odorless plug in mosquito repellent. However you did not ask for nor look for these.
3) The canals are very clearly described with: a) Google map b) many pictures c) text description. What were you expecting??
4) Casa Allegra is very clean by normal standards, we are sorry you did not find it to your satisfaction-we’d appreciate detailed description to your issue.
5) The washing machine- because the previous guests washed an item with coins in a pocket, that got jammed in the filter- however as I clarified to you in my prompt reply: the machine was fully operational.
6) You were aware that our Venetian caretaker doesn't speak much English- this being the very reason why I was trying so hard to get you to answer all my many emails!.
7) Your decision for early departure- there was no prior negotiation or communication on your part as how we could solve your issues. We do not want our guests to leave early, however they are free to leave any time they decide to.
8) We feel your review is very unfair, we tried to resolve any issues with you in private, however you don’t have the courtesy to reply our emails. Some people have a negative outlook and prefer to complain and make other people responsible for inadequacies. Again we are sincerely sorry that you left Venice, this most beautiful unique city, way too soon, with an unfortunate “not as expected” experience.

Venice as we Dreamed of
Thank you for sharing your home with my daughter and I on our first visit to Venice. We so enjoyed the views from our rooms, the extra space of the 2 bedrooms, the quiet neighborhood away away from the crowds and the convenience of nice neighborhood grocery and restaurants.

As good as I had hoped
The description on the web page looked wonderful - so good that I persuaded two friends that they should stay with me in Venice. And it turned out that the reality was at least as good as the description. I think the fact that Renato uses this for his own family holidays explains why there is everything there that you need for comfortable day to day living. And the location is perfect - near everything but away from the tourist "ant track".

Wonderful As Always
My two sisters and I stayed at Casa Allegra from April 19-29, 2011. This was my third time staying at Renato's and Allegra's holiday rental. I came back a third time for a good reason. It is a lovely apartment in a fantastic location. The hosts provide excellent customer service, good value, and are really good people. The apartment has views on two canals, is bright and airy, and has great appointments. Enjoy Renato's photos, and their father's original art. I would be happy living there for a long period of time (maybe even forever).
Here are the important details: The bathroom is large, well lit, with an ample supply of hot water and a good shower. The kitchen is well supplied with all one needs to cook a good meal. The apartment is spotless. The beds are comfortable, and the linens are good. There is a great tv (watch the Italian shopping channel to refresh your vocabulary), internet access, plenty of books to read as well as maps and guides. Food shopping is close by, and there is a rolling cart to bring back supplies. It is an easy walk from the Fondamenta Nova, the Strada Nova, the railway station, and Piazzale Roma, but it is in a quiet residential area. The housekeeper, Signora Louisa, who couldn't be any nicer.
Venice, of course, has its own attractions. This apartment provides a home base that enhances the experience- so much better than staying at a hotel. There is no downside to Casa Allegra. I give it my highest recommendation without any reservations. Thank you, Renato and Allegra, for yet another perfect vacation.
