We should have prepared to go camping to stay in this vacation rental.
-The kitchen has one pot and one pan. Literally.
-The kitchen sink is leaking profusely on the left side. There's a bowl under the sink that you have to empty every time you use it.
-We were unable to use the garbage disposal due to the kitchen sink leak, we doubt it worked anyway.
-The dishwasher is broken. All three of these kitchen appliances being broken = nightmare if you are trying to cook for 6-10 people. Also, these appliances are listed as being provided on the rental listing.
-The swimming pool must be leaking because it rained everyday and the pool was never full, even after filling it with water for an hour the morning of January 21st, as the note in the kitchen asks guests to do if the pool is low.
-When we checked in all of the sinks spurted brown water and/or strange pressure. We assumed the house had been sitting empty and the pipes had gone unused for a while. We realized this was due to a water level issue when we ran OUT of water in the afternoon of January 21st, less than 24 hours after checking in. Noone in our party was able to shower until the afternoon of the 22nd, 2 days later. For the 18+ hours we were without water we had to haul trash cans of water from the pool to the toilets to use the bathrooms.
-For the remainder of our stay the water pipes made crazy screeching noises everytime hot water was in use.
-There are numerous small jobs that need to be done on the house, ie. broken handles, broken closet door that hit someone when they tried to open it...
The owner claims that we somehow emptied the water tank. The entire situation utterly baffled every member in our party. Absolutely impossible.
All of our guests brought their own bedding since we had different friends on different nights and somehow a pile of bedding was removed from the house. The landlord brought the missing items to our attention within two hours of leaving the house and after paying him $395 (!!!!) for the missing linens (all very low quality) and explaining how it happened, he still accused us of "stealing" from him.
It was a nightmare vacation. Camping would have been nicer and would have saved me a whole lot of money.
Owner's Response: Let me preface my response by regretfully saying I had unusual issues with this guest & she threatened to use the review process to pressure me into meeting her money demands. Consequently, this review is not written with accurate intentions. In short, my home is on water catchment & I had 4,000 gallons of water delivered the day before she checked in. Natural elements normally run from faucets a few seconds after refilling the tank. The previous guests left just prior to their arrival so my home wasn't sitting empty. She admitted leaving the water running for a some time & my pool man informed me that it ran for so many hours that water overflowed onto the pool deck, flooding the ground under the pool & depleting the water supply. I have NEVER had guests use all the water in the home & run out. This issue & “strange noises & water pressure” just do not exist. Even though both she & I individually understood what happened with the water, I supplied her with the requested receipt for the water delivery made prior to their arrival. Additionally, I have never had a guest accidentally take a (king size) bed liner, comforter, bed spread, sheets (600 count) & pillows. I must also admit that I don't understand a claim that everyone in their party brings bedding to a vacation home. As opposed to accusing her of stealing & two days (not hours) after their departure, I simply asked what happened to the bedding as any owner would. An invoice for it was sent over a week after they left. I sincerely want my guests to have memorable vacations in my home & I understood how their error with the water could put a damper on their vacation so, despite the invoice I sent & our differences, I cordially refunded her full deposit along with an additional $100. Although that was less than she demanded, I sent it as a sympathetic owner & not because of the ultimatum of an unfair review. In regards to the other issues mentioned. A very nice stainless steel Bosh dishwasher was already on order & has since been installed & the garbage disposal works fine. The leak under the sink was minor & promptly repaired. The closet door was simply off the track & put right back on. There's definitely more than 1 pot/pan in my home but, I've added a new set to the kitchen supplies. Any reasonable person understands that with the constant rotation of guests, occasional repairs & replacements are ongoing. My home is a wonderful vacation home and I am prompt & diligent with any issues that arise.
