A villa we will definitely return to!

Coming from the US I looked for weeks to find the right place. We wanted a location that was centrally located on the lake but did not want to be in the middle of the tourist trap, we were so pleased and happy we found Villa Gabriella. We believe could not have chosen a better place for the price and personal service we received. Initially, reading the reviews was a little hard to believe given this was a self-catering villa, but from the first email with Robin, to meeting Eric and Jiselle, then ending with our bitter sweet goodbyes, we can understand why their reviews are so wonderful. They both work as hard as or harder than high-end hotels when it comes to personal attention. Robin (or Eric) replied to any questions by email and phone. Met us upon arrival, to again answer any questions we had about the villa or area. Eric offered to drive us to Bella Vista restaurant (fantastic eats by the way) when we were unsure of the location, even though we had rented a car.
The villa itself is quite lovely and a welcomed sight after a long flight and the slightly crazy Italian drivers: the living room and kitchen is conveniently opposite the balcony with a view of the lake (and for my wife, Mr. Clooney’s villa). The bathroom and the main bedroom are on the second level; it was very clean and had everything we needed. There is a very nice local store in the village where you can get all the basics, excellent meats and lasagna. It does deliver but if you are walking be prepared for the steps back up to the villa. The village of Pognana itself is small and quaint and just what we wanted. We arrived in the fall (less crowded) and the ferry was limited but the weather was so nice we rented a boat. We found this even more thrilling being able to stop when and where we wanted for photos. The overall Lake Como area is a sight to see you can’t get to it all in a week. Our favorites were: Bellagio, the Bernina express to St. Moritz (long but worth it), Cernobbio, boating on the lake, the gardens of Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbianello. The restaurants: Bella Vista (Veleso), Aurora (Lezzano), Salice Blu and Silvios (Bellagio). I am sure we have missed a few places but I hope this helps!
To Eric, Robin and Jiselle; thank you for being such lovely hosts. You have help to make our vacation to Lake Como a special one we will always remember. We are telling all of our friends and hope to visit you again real soon!

A beautiful view from this well appointed villa.Some other villa owners take visitors for granted but not this owner. Top advice and attention to detail. Having such an attentive owner makes staying here a very enjoyable holiday.

"Dream Vacation"
Staying at Villa Gabriella on Lake Como was one of the best choices we have ever made. The panoramic views of the lake and town from the balconies were awesome and the villa itself was beautifully decorated and stocked with every amenity you could possibly need. Driving around the lake with the narrow lanes and corkscrew turns was a challenge but the stunning landscape made it all worthwhile. Our hosts, Eric and Robin, are wonderful and I feel that we have started a friendship rather than a business relationship. Although your privacy was a top priority, they were always available to assist. Their recommendations for dinner and recreation were wonderful. We never felt alone in a foreign country. In fact, one night, we misssed our train stop. But, panic did not set in because we knew that Eric would come to pick us up if we were stranded. (Luckily it all worked out) This level of service can not be found at most hotels. We visited St. Moritz via the Bernina Express, Lake Lugano, Bergamo, Milan and the villages and villas surrounding Lake Como. Probably, the most fun was renting a boat on the lake and the seaplane tour over the lakes. (Eric's recommendations) Dinner on our last night was at Salice Blu. Chef Luigi provided personal and quality service and the food was wonderful. It was a fitting end to a memorable trip. I would say the only mistake we made was leaving to go home. we definitely will be back. Joanne and John Soule, Maryland, USa.

Exceptional accommodations, Stately villa that is over 300 years old with hand carved granite stairs. Loved this place. So comfortable and cozy, private and relaxing with truly views to dies for.Loved the villa and everything about it !
Owners were exceptionally helpful and kind and could not have done enough.

Lake Como's Best Kept Secret
Picking a place, site unseen, was a bit unnerving, but we hit the nail right on the head with Villa Gabriella. Sweeping panoramic views of the lake, all the amenities and nothing commercial. Eric and Robin were delightful and made us feel like their top priority. The villa itself is wonderful - 2 balconies and a well equipped kitchen and bathroom. The tasteful decor was also noteworthy as was the welcome gift and note! If you are out of shape - beware - the villa is approx. 350 uneven steps, down charming ancient Roman alley ways paved with stones and granite boulders, to the street and another 350 steps down to the lake itself. For us, this was one of the most delightful features, as we met many locals who floored us with their sweet ways and even invited us into their homes. One of our neighbors brought us a bag with fresh vegetables and herbs as a gift and the grocer at the bottom of the hill dropped an extra piece of cake into our bag (while motioning "shh..." so his wife wouldn't see. Elena and Peppo, in Peppo's Bar are equally as delightful and feature gelato, their parrot, Arturo, and some great coffee. There is a cafe up here and you can grab a cold drink as you will be in need. The sites and sounds of this village are amazing - and there is a ruin at the top of the hill, passed the church, that is worth investigating! At the lake itself, the Lake Como Beach Resort is wonderful.There are kiwi arbors dripping heavy with fruit at the edge of the grass and the figs trees are everywhere! Don't miss the lift on the hill behind the resort - it was up the path directly behind the house and will save you 200 steps! Villa Gabriella was exceptional and the the most pleasurable part of our 2 week European adventure. We loved every minute we stayed at this paradise and will sing its praises to everyone we meet well into the future!

Breathtaking views, shimmery lake, starlit nights

Our 2nd visit to Lake Como for my husband's 50th birthday party HAD to be special; his only request was a villa on Lake Como for 3 weeks, and Villa Gabriella was perfect! Easy to get to with our GPS from Milan Malpensa airport, breathtaking views from a 2-story villa on a hill in Pognana that dead-ends at a wonderful Church whose bells woke us to another fabulous day on the Lake each morning. The villa owners, Eric and Robyn treated us like family and made us feel SOOOOOOOOO welcome. We cannot say enough good things about the home, nice size living room, wonderful kitchen to cook what we wanted ; these rooms allowed us to eat overlooking the lake and Italian Alps through floor-to-ceiling shuttered french doors. We ate breakfast on the balcony every day. The gorgeous, hand cut stone winding stair case up to the master bedroom and bathroom were wide and allowed us to bring luggage for our guests with ease. The master bedroom had floor-to-ceiling shuttered french doors. The 2nd bedroom on the 3rd floor was perfect for our guests. We had a problem with our rental car and managed to get it towed on our own and arrange for a replacement. When Eric found out we sorted it on our own, he assured us it would not have been a bother for him to assist as he and Robyn both speak Italian and English fluently. The grocery store in the center of Como had everything we needed, including a fantastic selection of local wines [for a fraction of what we pay at home!!!!!] Loved our neighbors who we got to know over 3 weeks. We have and still are recommending this wonderful villa to all our friends and family. We WILL be back!!!!!!!

"Viewes and Lake front access are hard to come by..."
When looking for a place to spend our much needed vacation it took us a lot of time to find just the right one. We are so happy to say our hard work paid off! We arrived to the elevator over looking George's (Clooney) Home and laid on the sun lounge ever since. But the lake is so magical he could not keep us there for long. There were so many things to see and do we ran out of time during our weeks stay. Thank you Robin and Eric and ambassador Jiselle. It was fun and we will definfitly do it again.Cheers to the great job you have done here - it's breathtaking !
