Great stay.

I brought my wife and 7 year old son to this property last year during his school's spring break. Living in Seattle, my wife needed a well deserved break from the cold and drisle. After 15 years of being an air line pilot, I can't bear to stay in hotels during vacation. This porperty was a perfect alternative to the bland four walls of even the nicest hotel. It was everything we hoped it would be--charming, cozy, quaint the perfect size for the three of us. The neighborhood is just as nice; we took many walks to see lovey gardens, a coffee shop, plant nursery and even a nature hike. If you go don't miss that hike. It's in a ravine that the city was going to pave over but the local citizens were able to protect it and the results are like an urbane oasis. The owner was very friendly and accommodating. If you are looking for a quiet, charming stay I recommend this place highly. Just yesterday (a year later) my son was talking about what a good time he had on that vacation, specifically focusing on how fun it was to stay in "our house."

Relaxing Place To Stay

Our stay at the "Treehouse" was everything we expected. The listing photos were accurate of the rental's appearance. It was very clean and quiet. We never realized that we had a next door neighbour until 3 days into our vacation stay at the Treehouse. Darren was in touch several times during our stay (via e-mail) and offered to answer any questions or provide assistance as required (thanks Darren) . Shopping and restaurants are approximately a 15 minute walk away. Coin operated laundry is located downstairs. While we were in San Diego we visited the Midway, SeaWorld, SD Zoo, Balboa Park, and downtown -- all within about a 10 minute drive. The damage deposit was returned promptly. We would definitely stay at the "Treehouse" again, and would recommend it to others!

Great place to stay while visiting our daughter

My wife's biggest concern was cleanliness. She was very pleased. My biggest concern was a firm comfortable bed with "just the right pillow". I couldn't have been happier. Everything was about what we expected, based upon the description and follow-up correspondence. The owner was very quick to answer questions, correct a small error on the lease, and accommodate our specific needs. We walked to Hillcrest a lot (where our daughter has a very small apartment), and loved all of the restaurants in that neighborhood, as well as Trader Joes and Whole Food. The coin operated washer and dryer in the downstairs was very helpful. The Mission Hills library is on Washington St, about 6 blocks away.

What fun we had!

The purpose of our visit was to spend time with our daughter who lives in San Diego, and to enjoy a little sunshine and warmth away from our colder February climate... and what fun we had! The apartment was cheerful, clean, bright and well equipped, and in a wonderful neighborhood. We enjoyed cooking, watching HGTV and other silly shows on extended cable we don't get at home! We took walks into Hillcrest and down into Old Town, which is just a mile and a quarter walk away through gorgeous neighborhoods of historic old homes with wonderful gardens of blooming bird of paradise, lavenders, and rosemary and succulent gardens. The apartment served as a perfect haven for us, as we are quite the homebodies and just really enjoyed "being home", looking out the big corner windows watching the quiet world go by. Mission Hills neighborhood is a true find. Darren was a pleasure to deal with in renting the property, answering all questions quickly and kindly, and the return of our security deposit was sent back to us promptly. Can't wait to visit again!

5 Star Vacation

I stayed at the "Tree House" for three weeks and the descriptions on VRBO were most accurate. The apartment was immaculate and the kitchen was well stocked with every pot/pan/dish/glass you could possibly need. I loved the location, so safe and quiet.....there is a deli just around the corner on Lewis together with a beautiful boutique and card shop. Otherwise, their main supermarket, Albertson's, is just about 1/2 mile away. Because my stay was long, I was able to take in the museums and the zoo at Balboa Park, sunsets at LaJolla, Del Coronado Hotel, Old Town, Mission Hills Park as well as the Saturday Market in Little Italy and some really good restaurants (Hodad's for burgers);Rubicon Deli; Cafe Coyote in Old Town and brunch/lunch at Cody's in LaJolla. And on top of all that, the owner Darren was so friendly and helpful. If I come back to San Dieego, I would definitely choose to stay here again.

It was very nice to talk to you (almost daily) and to hear of all the wonderful places you were having a chance to explore. I look forward to your stay in 2013... this time for 4 weeks or more :) !

Highly Recommend Staying Here

I brought my mom to San Diego for a family reunion in July 2011. I can honestly say this place made the vacation far nicer than staying in a hotel. The description and pictures are spot-on. It is located in a nice, quiet neighborhood. We walked around the neighborhood our first night there and the people we met were very friendly. The Tree House itself was very clean and had everything you could need, including a collection of menus and pamphlets from various restaurants and attractions. The fully-outfitted kitchen was great because we were able to get groceries near-by and not have to eat out every meal. Prior to our reservation and during our stay, Darren was very responsive and helpful. He even sent me a text to let me know about a concert going on in a near-by park. After our stay, the damage deposit was refunded very quickly. I would recommend this place to anyone and would definitely stay here again.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I will share one of San Diego's best kept secrets—well, not anymore! Darren's Tree House is the best place to stay and enjoy real SD. Our daughter lives in Hillcrest and we wanted a place nearby for the holiday. Seriously, perfect! Our sons joined us from SF and SB and we gathered together like Pilgrims, made pumpkin pie, watched trashy TLC wedding and preggers shows, and kept the gravy and wine flowing. To balance the debauchery there were bike rides around the city, tennis at Balboa Park, and after dinner walks from the dozens of nearby pubs and eateries as we wound our way "home." The uber-clean space feels so airy and light, the two beds (one separate bedroom, one a convertible couch in the living room) were dreamy comfortable; linens and covers sumptuous and perfect. There were plenty of fresh white towels. The kitchen had everything one might need. And for the neat-niks among us (a.k.a. me) there was a bucket full of tidying up materials and a vacuum in the ample hall closet. We left a ton of good juju behind and plan to come again real soon if there will ever be availability after this review :-) Ten out of Ten!

TRULY QUIET ¡¡

I spent a week with a friend (we are not a couple) in this beautiful and indepentend appartment. We could easily be with ourselves, each in his or her own area. We did not immagine that Mission Hills was going to be such a nice and quiet part of San Diego. We rented a car and could visit many nice places that are close, being San Diego a relatively small city. We could have several of our (veggie) meals in the appartment without any problem. We met Darren twice and he showed himself a polite and charming person.

Owner's Response: Antonio,
Thanks again for your stay and your nice words. It was very nice to meet you also. We are so happy that you had a chance to see the sites here in San Diego and that you found our unit to be so quiet. Hope to see you again on your next trip to San Diego.
