Photos and Description of the Waipio vacation house rental
House, 5 Bedrooms + Sleeping Porch, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Keywords: High on a bluff 600 ft above Waipio Bay, on property once owned by King Kamehameha IV, sits Hale 'Io. Magical sunsets and sunrises without the glare or heat, Maui on the horizon, gentle nightime rains to lull you to sleep (and make the rainbows) and a quiet and peacefulness so hard to find - this is the magic of Hale 'Io. Lush surroundings, sexy pool with concealed rock slide and waterfall and views that never quit, never. Watch whales from the lanai or ocean deck, awaken to the birds, listen to the wind - it really speaks to you here.

Owner-built, architect designed, custom home for laid back family living. Lush grounds, organic fruit orchard, ample parking, sexy beach-entry pool, magnificent kitchen - 2 dishwashers, 2 microwaves, 2 ovens, warming drawer - fit for the accomplished cook. Color abounds to reflect the natural hues of Hawaii. The house is the color of the ocean, both deep and shallow water and inside is a rainbow cacophony that no photos can do justice. Simply stunning for the non color-phobes! Many exotic woods and finishes, but truly designed for in and out living and a laid back lifestyle. Culinary tours originate here and the chef is available for your private repast. You can sleep a lot more than 10 here, but need

to believe that the comfy sofa, futons and pune' on the lanai are OK for overnights. Don't worry, you'll believe, as that is where you'll nap! Bring the kids, but they have to sign the contract about the cliff, the pool, the sliding hill and the fort ;-) - which means they must be at least the age of reason and capable of understanding the danger. Pool is completely fenced, cliff is not.

Five bedrooms, 3 with ensuite bathrooms, one with 'across the hall' bathroom and one without. Two lush outdoor showers. Secret room.....if you can find it, you can sleep there.

Why Eileen Levin chose Waipio

This was our home. If you could build a luxury home in Yosemite, you would, right? This property is simply magical. The ocean views are stunning.

What makes this house unique

Nature abounds in many forms and that is what we have enjoyed the most. Hard to beat watching whales from the lanai.

Our group of 5 couples was extremely impressed with this beautiful home. We were very comfortable and many extra ammenities were incuded. The house is beautifully decorated as the pictures show. The grounds are extremely private and the view is stunning. We had the opportunity to enjoy watching whales from the deck daily. The kitchen/dining area is set up very well for preparing meals for a larger group. There is also a nice laundry room. Eileen was very quick in responding to any questions that arose. There is some driving involved to get to the larger cities of Waimea, Hilo and Kona, but the nearby town of Honoka'a is very charming and has much to offer. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in a home such as this and I highly recommend it for spoiling yourself while on the Big Island..

Great White North Travellers-What a Place!

A family vacation for 10 days to the Big Island could not have been better and a large part of this was because of our stay at Hale I'o. There were 6 of us of various ages and we all felt that the house was spectacular, colourful, architecturally and artistically interesting and yet--fun and casual. Beautifully maintained with a lot of stunning artwork. No doubt - five star amenities with great thought to comfort and detail - there is something for everyone here! The setting alone was unparalleled with views that captivate and a sense of isolation from the rest of the world. The special feeling was not unlike our experience camping as a family in the middle of the Serengeti (without the dust and lions of course). Despite the beauty and stunning design, the house and land and gardens confer an immediate warmth and ease. What a tremendous place and what a pleasure dealing with Eileen - the entire experience was wonderful and we loved being far removed from the masses. The drive from Honokaa toward Hale I'o and Waipio gave the sense of a special isolation. A private pool surrounded by a tropical jungle, views of whales from our dinner table, fresh fruit from the garden, outdoor showers off the bedrooms- not too hard to take. We all agreed that Hale I'o was the right place for a memorable vacation-we consider ourselves so lucky to have had the experience.

From the moment we arrived to our last sunset on the lanai, we were in awe at the breathtaking views seen from every room in the house. This is truly one of the most memorable places I've stayed at in my lifetime. The house is spectacular and not one detail has been missed. The kitchen is a chef's dream, with a wok station, 5-burner stove, and stocked with everything you need and with views out to the ocean - it makes cooking on holiday an absolute pleasure. Each bedroom and bathroom is beautifully decorated and very private. This is a perfect place for a family holiday - with ample space to enjoy each others company while offering you the opportunity for privacy whenever you need it. The pool...is AMAZING. With a waterslide that goes through rocks and a beach-entry, this is the perfect pool for everyone. Eileen has created such a serene tropical oasis around the pool with giant hibiscus flowers, fan palms, and bamboo trees that this is another spot you will never want to leave. Behind the house is an orchard of mature fruit trees - orange, lime, lemon, lilikoi, guava, avocado and coconut. This place leaves you wanting for nothing. In fact, the big island has so much to offer and so many places to visit but we felt torn every time we left the house to explore the island because it's such a treasure in itself and no matter how long you spend here, you will leave feeling like it's not enough. Eileen is the best host and she is there to answer any questions you may have but she also respects your privacy. She has an extensive list of the must-do sights and places to visit on the island and she has a wealth of knowledge about Hawaii. This vacation property now has a very special place in our hearts and we will be back next year for sure!

Our group had 10 people in it. With a group that large, it is typically difficult for everyone to agree on an agenda. Not at this house. Before we arrived we had planned several things to do while we were in Hawaii. Once we got there, erything changed. Nobody wanted to leave the property. In fact, we only left to go to the grocery store and liquor store (twice) and to go on the "Ride the Rim" tour, that's it. The tour was very educational and interesting regarding local history, myth and legend. I would recommend it to anyone. Especially since the only way to see that part of the island is to take the tour. The house itself was absolutely fabulous. The views are second to none anywhere on the planet earth. The property was isolated and beautiful as well. There are several fruit trees that produce fruit daily including coconuts, bananas, tangerines, grapefruit, macadamias, passion fruit and others. The owner, Eileen, was perfect. In short, there is only one thing I would change about this vacation, We should have stayed longer. Of the 10 of us that went, all of us agreed that it was the best vacation that we have ever taken. Again, as I stated earlier, I would recommend it to anyone, check that, everyone. A stay at this spiritually amazing property is a must on everyone's bucket list. Thank You Eileen for allowing the rest of us to be able to get just a little taste of what utopia actually feels like! This vacation isn't only fantastic, it will change your life. We guarantee it.

We have just returned from an extremely relaxing and enjoyable week in this amazing home. It is an exceptional property if you love to relax, cook, explore, and get away from civilization. Our family especially enjoyed the kitchen with its enormous wok for cooking the abundant local foods we found at the many farmers markets around the island. We also had to take turns showering because everyone wanted to use the two outdoor showers rather than the indoor baths. The home is between Hilo and Kona which worked out well for exploring both sides of the island. I just wish we had more time-perhaps a year or two. Eileen was unobtrusive but there if needed. She was always a phone call or email away to answer any questions. You can't go wrong with this home!

Words alone can't explain it, We arrived at dust ,the lights in and around the house were on,Eileen had everything lit,the last of the daylight showed us the incredible view at the back of the house, when everybody says 'WORDS ALONE CAN'T EXPLAIN THE BREATHTAKING VIEW" they mean it.The finest resorts on the island don't compare to it.If your looking for privacy and charm and probably the Finest Hostess on Island, than enjoy the comforts of Hale I'o,Eileen the owner of this incredible house made sure we were well taken care, everything we needed was there, the only thing we brought was food and drinks,My grandchildren ages 8,12,and 21 had a blast with pool and slide and hot tub,My cousin and his family also went with us they all had a ball, they arrived later in the evining ,but woke up the next morning to THAT View......If your looking for the MOST AMAZING vacation ever stay here you wont be disappointed trust me......

After 15 years of conducting meditation events in Hawaii and staying at 12 million dollar homes, we have finally found the ultimate Paradise at Hale I'o. No kidding, this lovely home and its fantastic owner leave nothing to be desired. Charm, comfort, an incredible view, seclusion, beauty... I could go on and on, but I am getting homesick already for the magic of this property. I highly recommend Hale I'o as a fantastic family destination or group retreat. All nine of us were enchanted beyond measure. We plan on coming back again and again, knowing that we will never become tired of its treasures.

Extraordinary location, spectacular home for a great family vacation

If you want to get away from it all without sacrificing luxury living this is the place to go. We recently stayed with our family (5 adults and 3 children) and it was perfect. The grounds are stunningly beautiful with plants and flowers that were almost unnatural in their size and beauty and the views from the property are unparalleled. The house itself if very spacious and uniquely decorated with the vibrant palette of the Island. A lot of thought and effort obviously went into the design and the details. Our family loved the sound system which broadcasts to different zones of the house. Although we spent a lot of our time taking in different activities on the island it was hard to pull everyone away from the delightful pool, waterslide and hot-tub. We made good use of the cooking equipment including the oversized wok, hot plate and outdoor grill and had at least one of the two dishwashers going most of the time. Eileen is a thoughtful and gracious hostess who takes good care of her guests while being completely unobtrusive. Our family will talk about this vacation for years.

We could not have asked for more from this rental. The property is expansive, private and exclusive, and is actually better than the photos suggest. All amenities are provided; you will want for nothing. Every bedroom has a view of the ocean and the spectacular Hamakua coast, specifically the breathtaking Waipio Valley, one of the most photographed spots on the Big Island. The owner was most helpful and was very concerned that everything was working and in place for our stay (it was). We were able to relax and enjoy both the local attractions and those further afield. The location is great for the top end (Kohala, Waimea, Hawi) and not too far from Kona. Honokaa, a charming town, is just down the road and Hilo is about an hour's drive away. If you stay here it will certainly be one of your most treasured holidays.
