Charming, quiet, spacious Hana house
My husband and two children ages 10 and 13 enjoyed our stay in this perfect family home after our fun, adventurous drive on the "Road to Hana" (no one got car sick even though my youngest child is prone to that). It's a fabulous drive and everyone visiting Maui needs to do it at least once! We recommend stopping at Keanae for shave ice, snacks and beautiful views beside the crashing waves. When we arrived at this cozy house, we had two comfy beds, two well-appointed modern bathrooms, lovely fresh flowers and everything was very clean . The satellite-equipped big screen television was great after busy days of sight-seeing in the Hana area. The enormous yard gave us lots of privacy and an awesome place to throw a football, baseball or just run around. Or you can just relax on the covered lanai and take in the beautiful scenery! We didn't use the kitchen too much, but everything you need is provided. We enjoyed take-out dinners from the very popular Hana food truck, "Bruddah Hutt's" (former chef) located just past the Hasegawa General Store. DELICIOUS bbq pork ribs, chicken and super fresh ahi. From this house, you'll be literally a two-minute drive to the entrance of Waianapanapa State Park which is lovely: explore the cool black sand beach, blow hole, hiking trails and beach caves/pools. We also spent two afternoons boogie boarding and relaxing on the picturesque Hamoa Beach which is about a ten-minute drive from the house (continue through Hana Town). Finally, we left Hana by going on the south Maui road which was truly spectacular!!! We stopped at Oheo Gulch and Pipiiwai Trail (both located at the Haleakala State Park Visitors Center). Then a couple more stops at Kaupo General Store and the Tedeschi Winery (free wine tasting). The views are some of the best you'll see anywhere on Maui. The roads were perfectly fine with just one small section being totally flat, hard-packed dirt, nothing too bumpy or crazy like some books/blogs lead you to believe. Some parts are single lane with curves, but hey, that's what makes it so breathtaking!! Just take your time and don't drive like a maniac. Everyone we encountered was very courteous and careful. We had a rental Jeep and it was great. The drive was a HUGE highlight for our family. The drive takes you through rain forest then stark, volcanic desert and back to Upcountry ranch lands. It's truly amazing. Last but not least, the owner, Jody, was awesome to work with and we highly recommend staying at her Hana home!
