A few things to know
We discussed the lack of internet connection with the owners (did not work for 1st 48 hours) several times and their stories often changed as to why the internet didn’t function. It was mildly irritating to be told after three days of staying at their property that "..don't worry you are on holiday. We will fix it tomorrow". It was disconcerting to see water flooding into the living room when the high winds drove the rain through the gaps between in the front door. We advised the owners and that we had to use towels to block the door. The upper level of the guest house is only accessible via oversized concrete external stairs, which less mobile guests who visited with us found extremely difficult. The pictures the owners provide on their listing do not portray just how small the kitchen and living room is. We tried to sit four people at the kitchen table and quickly abandoned that idea. The table is very small and once four plates are placed on the table, there is no room for anything else. The table has to be moved away from the wall and into the “living area” in order to seat four people. The kitchen appears to have been supplied with implements acquired at garage sales or owner cast offs. The eating utensils were of such a quality that a fork broke while eating. It was not stocked with basic kitchen or bbq utensils. We tried to use the microwave only to find it was not even plugged in due to, according to the owner, a safety issue. The living kitchen area was too small for our group of four to gather to eat and socialise. None of the bathroom have curtains or blinds and it is disconcerting that the neighbours can see into the bathrooms. Both downstairs bedrooms do not have air conditioning units and the fans did not work and one of the light sockets was dangling from the ceiling. The best thing regarding the property is the pool/deck area however, we were approached by the owner whilst we were on the deck one evening who said “Hi. We are having clients over in half an hour and would appreciate if you could leave the deck so we can entertain our clients from 7 to 9 pm”. We were not impressed to say the least. This latter incident soured the most positive aspect of this property, the deck. We concluded our vacation in Miami at a chain hotel and sadly we felt more at home and better served there than at the guest house; which is not our normal experience with VRBO properties.
Owner's Response: We’ve enjoyed renting our home for many years, our guests tell us our home is beautiful and many return to stay with us each year.
To address this guest's comments:
* Yes, There is a Central Air conditioning system- Every room has cold & heat. The A/C control panel is on the wall in the living room. But they never asked or mentioned the ac while during their stay
*There was an unusually strong Tropical Storm during 2 hours with heavy driving rain, wind and lighting. The wind caused a little rain to come under the entrance door but was simply dried up w/ a towel.
During the same storm, the lighting caused a power outage and the electric was off in the neighborhood for a short time every house has an electric breaker system that switches off for safety avoiding electric surges, which is why the microwave switch simply needed to be reset for safety
It also explains that with no electricity, the internet wasn’t working for a short time. What wasn't mentioned in the review is how much they told us they enjoyed using the internet outside by the swimming pool every day nor did he mention how we went out on a Saturday morning specially to purchase two additional internet relay stations for the guest house for them.
*The guest house is two stories and there are stairs to access the second floor. This is a charming historical home it does not have an elevator for less mobile guests.
*The Guest house kitchen is fully stocked Galley size kitchen. The kitchen was remodeled in February 2013 and has new stainless steel appliances with full size Refrigerator w/ ice machine, dish washer and full size oven-stove. See photos.
*Yes, There are curtains in ALL of the downstairs bathrooms-see photos.
While Jeremy was here he requested to stay 2 additional nights, but we were booked and unable to accommodate his request, so he had to go to a hotel to conclude his vacation in a hotel.
