It looks like a traditional San Francisco home on the outside but inside it's a contemporary architectural work of art with Golden Gate Bridge Views. Warm walnut floors and thresholds and soft furnishings make this contemporary home very warm and comfortable. The architecture is so striking that the home has been featured in magazines, on French TV and on the American Institute of Architects home tour.
The ground floor has a separate living room with antiqued mirrors and a gas fireplace. The dining room has a beautiful custom table that expands to seat 12 comfortably surrounded by soft, padded walls. Next to the dining room is the sleek kitchen, a mix of wood, Carrera marble and glass. The appliances are state-of-the-art. Dinner wear, glass wear and serving wear is ample for any occasion.
The kitchen and dining rooms open to the family room. It has a large wood-burning fireplace, large lounge area and huge sliding doors that open onto the deck and the beautiful, level back yard. The powder room finishes off this floor.
The back yard has a deck with chairs and sofas covered by a glass deck above. The water wall pours down the side before pouring over the steps into a long pond. At the end is the fire pit, rising out of the water. It's surrounded by seating and a large picnic table. The built-in gas BBQ and outdoor range are great for outdoor entertaining or just cooking a great meal.
An open, metal staircase with glass rails leads up 2 floors and is capped by a huge skylight letting in lots of natural light. The second floor holds 3 bedrooms and two of the bathrooms. The two front bedrooms have perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge. One has a queen bed and the other has bunk beds and is decorated in a safari theme for kids.
Taking the staircase up another level brings you to the penthouse level with its unique roof line and walls of windows. The front doors slide to open the room completely onto a deck overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and the Presidio National Park, The Palace of Fine Arts, the mansions of Pacific Heights and the Bay. The back windows look out at Alcatraz, the Bay and the buildings of Russian Hill. This room has a very contemporary full bathroom with a glass ceiling. The room has a day-bed that's a full bed that sleeps 2 people. It's open to the stair hall but the penthouse makes a fairly private suite with a view. The wet bar with fridge makes this penthouse playroom a playroom for all ages!
The garage fits two cars tandem. It has a well-equipped work-out room with a weight machine, a Bowflex machine, a stationary bike, Step Mill, free weights, Ballet bar, and a plasma TV for using your favorite workout DVDs.
The home is located in the best part of Pacific Heights/Cow Hollow. The streets here dead-end into the Presidio National Park or Pacific Heights so there's little traffic and noise, but it's walking distance to the Union Street, Chestnut Street and Fillmore Street shopping districts. Jog to the Golden Gate Bridge (about 2.5 miles away along the waterfront promenade), enjoy hiking trails in the Presidio (3 blocks away), visit the Palace of Fine Arts and the Exploratorium (6 blocks away). Dozens of great restaurants, bars and wine bars are within walking distance. The best of San Francisco is right outside your door!
