Not what we expected
I stayed here with my husband the first night of our vacation in Corn Island. The tree house is a small place pretty much like in the pictures. Unfortunately, it was not clean. There was unpleasant evidence of previous guests in the bathroom, sinks and fridge. We had booked the place for an entire week thinking that we could cook our meals there but I did not feel comfortable cooking without having the place cleaned up first. When we informed the proprietor about the place not being clean, she became very emotional and strongly recommended us to leave; so we did. The tree house is located on one of the best beaches of the island, although we heard later from the islanders that the area is not safe. Regarding activities, we recommend doing snorkeling with Dorsey Campbell and horse riding with Nicky Dong- two very nice and friendly islanders. Our favorite place to eat was the restaurant at the Sunrise hotel; they have the best cook of the island.
Owner's Response: One hour prior to the guest's arrival myself and my co-worker did a final walk through as is our policy. The apartment had been well cleaned. An hour after their arrival I checked in to see if everything was O.K., at that time there were no complaints. It’s our policy to receive payment of the second half of the reservation on arrival. Late afternoon the following day I asked if they would like to settle up the second half of their reservation. At that time the guest,s companion, indicated they would like to keep their options open for travel to Little Island. I explained that we are a vacation rental and that we had turned away other guests to honor our commitment to them. At that that time they began a litany of complaints, everything short of a fly in the soup. I realized where that was going, told them I wanted their trip to be comfortable and offered them a refund of the unused portion of their deposit and suggested two hotels one mile down the beach. They accepted my offer of a refund and left a day an a half later. For more information on Corn Island please go to the Big Corn Island website.
