Photos and Description of the Manuel Antonio vacation house rental
Very Private Luxury Home: One Acre of Mature Gardens with Pool

This Santa Fe style house sits atop a hillside overlooking the Manuel Antonio coastline to the West and the Talamunca Range w/ 6,000 ft San Gerenimo to the North. The jungle comes right up to the pool, and it's often possible to see two species of monkeys, iguanas, sloths, and many species of birds while lounging around the pool or from the many decks. There are over 3,000 sq. ft of living space, with decks that surround most of the two stories. The entire space can be opened up to give the feel of living in the outdoors with nearly an acre of mature gardens, with hundreds of tropical plants, orchids and fruit trees. The upstairs is an open living space that includes kitchen, dining, living room and TV area, and also a bathroom. Downstairs are three bedrooms: one with a king sized bed, two with queen sized beds (one has bunk beds for kids) all open on to the lower patio and pool. Our onsite caretakers provide 24/7security and help w/ all amenities. We now have wireless I-net.

General house info: We have had the same wonderful caretakers since we began renting in 2000 ready to help in any way.

Unlike so many other houses crowded together near noisy roads, and bars and restaurants, this property is secluded, yet 5 minutes drive to the happening town of Quepos or 5 minutes drive to the magnificent beaches of Manuel Antionio Nat. Park. You can walk to the main road, where there are more half a dozen restaurants within a quick stroll. From the covered roof you have a 360 degree view where you can watch spectacular sunsets over the ocean . Breezes blow all day and at night switch directions and come off the mountains to keep this house comfortable all the time. The house is fully equipped with everything you need for your stay. Quepos has wonderful fresh produce, fish, meat and chicken as well as a growing selection of wines and liquors, so you can stay at home and cook or ask Anna our caretaker to cook 'tico style' meals for your group. We try to offer the best rates in the area.

There is twice a week maid service and laundry, but you can request additional cleaning and laundry from Anna. Security is provided by our on site caretakers who live in a separate house at the entry to the property.

This house was built by local residents to the highest standards and reflects their experience of living in Costa Rica over 11 years. Much of the art is by the owner and other artists living in the area. The gardens are a work of love and care by the couple and entice you to take walks in the lush greenery and to see the wonders of the tropics close at hand (It's really like living in a tropical zoo!) Check out our personal web site for more pictures, info, maps and links to the area and services. The owner will gladly help with any aspect of your vacation.

Amenities: The house is completely furnished: full kitchen with all amenities, TV room with DVD player, cable, CD player. Phone service, also washer and dryer, pool with two out door showers, covered carport.

Steve's new memoir: Stumbling into Paradise: Activities: Nature walks and tours, snorkeling, surfing, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, horse rides, boat tours, National parks, great snooping around with your car up and down the coasts finding isolated beaches etc.

Area: Costa Rica's favorite destination, with the most beautiful beaches and a fun port town with lots of restaurants, bars and night life.

Steve has just written his memoir on the families 11 yrs in Costa Rica: 'Stumbling into Paradise' a great read if you're planning on visiting the country or dropping out to live on the beach.

A wonderful home to stay in!

We absolutely loved our Christmas week in Casa Tropical! The house is airy, comfortable, beautifully landscaped, well designed and decorated with wonderful paintings, carvings and handicrafts. It feels like a home and not a rental property at all. The pool was a gem, large enough to swim short laps in if you were determined, surrounded by flowering hibiscus and bougainvillea, and set just beneath the trees where we could watch monkeys and an iguana in the branches above us. We spent lots of time with binoculars on the roof deck watching amazing birds, more monkeys, and one morning a black and white anteater circle the house in the treetops. The roof deck and the other outdoor terrace/porch spaces on every level of the house provided endless places to sit in sun or shade, alone or together, as we wished. We were a family of 5 adults who fit easily and comfortably into the 3 bedrooms. The house was immaculately cared for by Annia, Steve's caretaker, who turned out to be a wonderful person and an absolutely exquisite cook. After she made one dinner for us, we signed her on to cook for us every night, including New Year's Eve when she prepared an amazing barbecue. Despite our initial resistance in attempts to be self-sufficient, she also collected our laundry every morning and returned it clean and sun-dried the next day. Her son Andres, who speaks good English, was full of suggestions for tour leaders and expeditions and we took full advantage of his help in arranging trips to canopy ziplines, white water rafting on the Savegre, and into Manuel Antonio park with a naturalist guide. My husband, 1 daughter, and son-in-law also spent a day at sea fly fishing, catching a sailfish and 3 dorado, one of which Annia cooked for us that night. We drove down to Dominical one day on the newly opened road south and loved that trip too. We had a spectacular time and loved staying in this house!

Casa Tropical is a beautiful hilltop oasis, complete with resident sloths, passing troupes of monkeys and hummingbirds of all sizes. Annia and Andres clearly love their jobs, helping visitors discover the sites and flavors of the Quepos/ Manuel Antonio area. Andres guided us to a range of elevations and ecosystems, from mountain waterfalls to night reptile tours. Their enthusiasm for the area is very contagious. Annia cooked two fabulous meals for our group of six, although she is available to cook as much as a group would like. And after a day of exploring the countryside and beaches, we looked forward to returning to the relaxing home, floating in the pool and waiting to see what wildlife would pass by. Much eye candy to behold! Great trip!

Casa Tropical/Manuel Antonio Area

We agonized over the details of planning our family Costa Rica vacation knowing little about the country. What area to see on a first time visit!! I was trying to make sure our vacation worked for our 22 and 20 yr olds. I would highly recommend Casa Tropical in all respects (description was accurate):Gorgeous house, surrounding community interesting and convenient, variety of local restaurants to suit all, caretakers who will cook and do laundry (was unique for us!! loved this, especially the meals!), variety and location of excursions (horseback riding at Nayucaya Waterfalls, white water rafting, zip line adventure), cost, location, amenities, monkeys, sloth, iguanas and botanicals in yard, national park location.....etc.Do bring binoculars. We loved the quiet!! If you need to hear of our experience in detail or have questions, I can be contacted via the owner (promise that I did not know these folks personally; I just lucked out!!!). The most valuable asset was all the information given to me by the owner. He was direct and honest as were the caretaker, Ania and her son, Andreas. Recommended many things and told me if an idea was not as good for the area or season. The owner recommended accommodations for our stay in the San Jose area which was also just perfect, Finca Rosa Blanca. We loved our Costa Rica vacation and hope you will also!! Definitely Casa Tropical would make it perfect if you have a group or family!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paradise and Privacy

Booking this vacation home was the best decision we made when planning our Costa Rica trip for our family of five. Having such a beautiful and relaxing space all to ourselves was truly paradise!! We thoroughly enjoyed the pool, gardens, and the multiple outdoor decks and lounge areas! Seeing monkeys leap from tree to tree and getting up close and personal with iguanas were priceless experiences for the kids (ages 9, 6, and 4)! The entire home and grounds were spotless and the caretakers were very friendly and helpful. They even assisted us in planning safe and convenient day trips for the entire family. The nearby beaches at Manuel Antonio Nat'l Park are wonderful! This home is large enough that a couple of families could share it and enjoy a very special Costa Rica vacation. I highly recommend this unique home.

Our family had a wonderful time in Quepos. Both the house and the family caring for the house were more than we expected. Ania's cooking was amazing. The kids were thrilled to feed bananas to the monkeys and see the iguanas every day!
It was such a special trip for us!

Hello Steve,

I just want to tell you what a fabulous time we had at your lovely home in Manuel Antonio. It was better than expected. The home is gorgeous and decorated so beautiful. Anna and Andres were more than helpful. She cooked for us every night, too. What lovely people! You are so lucky to have them watching over the place. My girls loved the iguanas that live in the roof top and monkeys and a sloth came right through the yard one afternoon. It is truly a magical place.

Pura Vida!!

"Words escape us to adequately describe our visit to Costa Rica and the paradise found at Casa Tropical. Our stay was overwhelmingly perfect. We cooked, swam, explored, watch the daily troop of monkeys, iguanas, birds and butterflies, listened to music, met on the roof for sunset and were quite spoiled by weeks end. We are most anxious to return and cannot imagine a more beautiful spot to come back to."
-Cheri and Steve

"We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica. Your house is lovely. My son learned to swim in your pool, and he was diving by the end of the holiday. The kids have rated it the best holiday ever. We had a perfect mix of adventure and R&R. We went white water rafting with Iguana Tours. They were great. We went to Isia Damas. We saw monkeys, sloths, and boas. Thanks again. We'll be back at some point. We can see why you love it there so much. It's a wonderful spot."

"We just returned from Costa Rica and wanted to let you know how great we thought the house was. Your house is so beautifully maintained and the art and architecture so aligned with the setting."

Hello Steve & Family,

Words just can't express the awesome vacation we had! The house was beautiful and so cozy. We loved the art work around the house. I would love to have an abstract painting of yours.
Hannia and her son David were very helpful. David went out with the girls once. They hit the night life in Quepos. We enjoyed both Quepos and Manuel Antonio's restaurants. So much to tell and cherish the rest of our lives! Sally

We had a fabulous time in Costa Rica - Thanks in great part to your beautiful house and its magical setting!! We wish we had more time there, and are looking forward to returning sometime soon. We would like to thank Hannia for all her help and kind gestures. They really add to the experience in so many ways.
Thanks for everything!
Barb -from the UK

We did have an excellent time. The
setting of the house was magnificent, and if there hadn't been so manygreat activities, we could have spent even more hours just sitting on
the veranda watching the wildlife. Claudio and Annia were super helpful. We will keep a reference to the property and may find ourselves back
there again! Mike and Family
