We spend a fabulous weeek in this house of Forest Lake. There is everythings to enjoy a beautiful vacation. The lake is perfect for swimming and the tennis court is in perfect condition.

We did hiking in the morning and enjoy the house in the afternoon. The surrounding is very quiet and the neighbours very nice people.

Thanks to James who take care of the people and of the house. We feel part of the family. James is making sure that evertythings is ok.

Thank you for your words of support and appreciation. Your words are always more important for renters than the owner, as you have lived lived "the dream". You are always welcome back to the lake house.

Three generations of my extended family just spent 2 weeks at this lovely Forest Lake home. I have little to add to the 5-star glowing reviews that precede me, other than to comment that they contain NO exaggeration! This rental experience was everything we were hoping for and more!!

During our stay a hinge on a screen door was broken and the clothes dryer died. The owner was contacted, and both issues were dealt with expediently and without recrimination.

A bonus for us was the fenced-in tennis court. In addition to rousing tennis exchanges for family members ages 1 through 82, it served as a deluxe playpen for the toddler set with their ride-on toys, balls, etc. It made it easier to have them outside without having to be ever-vigilant about their safety at the water's edge.

We all look forward to being able to return to this venue in the future!

The pictures do not do this home or its spot on the lake justice. The house and views are amazing! We spent our week at Forest Lake with 4 adults and 6 kids (ages 9-16). There was plenty of room for everyone and it was enjoyed by all. There are many activities close by, but the house and lake itself make you want to stay right there. we are looking forward to returning again next summer.

Will be Back!

I cannot thank Jim enough for opening up this family home to guests! The home was EXACTLY what we expected: Spacious, comfortable, clean. We were in town for a family wedding, had young children with us- we had ample room for the children to play (even found a baby gate for the stairs! The house had EVERYTHING we could need!), plenty of kitchen space to host a family breakfast for our extended family that was in town- everyone was envious of OUR accommodations! The views from each bedroom of the water and mountains was spectacular. We had plenty of seating throughout the house for folks to comfortably visit or have some space alone to read and relax. The location was perfect- easily found by GPS, close enough to town for last minute groceries, and an easy drive to both Littleton for the wedding and back to Whitefield (Mnt. View Grand) for the reception. Finding this house made attending this family wedding affordable and a lot less stressful than trying to contain our little ones in a hotel room! But, all of this does not compare to how impressed we were with the owner. Jim called and spoke with me at the time of the booking and gave excellent instructions and tips for a better stay, and then made arrangements to speak with us again upon our arrival to help us find all we would need inside the home. When he found out that he would not be able to keep this phone call date, he immediately contacted us and we reviewed everything at that time. From the details within the home and conversations with him, it really felt like we were visiting an old family friends' home. Both my brother and sister commented that it reminded us of where we went as children, which was more than I had ever hoped when I had selected this house, as these are where our best childhood memories are from! We will be back- hopefully during the summer so we can enjoy the decks and water!

I commend and thank you for your very positive review. Your words speak truely of what the home is to all; warm, spacious, comfortable, beautiful views, and character. You and your family will always be welcomed back, and you will find the peace and quiet of the lake in summer time too.

Avoid this place at all costs

The good: The property itself is beautiful. The "good" ends there, unfortunately.

The bad: The owner. And this is why you avoid this rental at all costs. I knew something was up the first time I spoke to him. He left me a four minute voicemail (which I still have if anyone wants to listen) about how he wasn't going to hold the rental for me although I had never asked him to. Then afterward, every conversation, which should have been five minutes apiece, turned into a half-hour apiece. This was the least problematic thing we encountered, unfortunately (see below). It was also quite bizarre that many of the pictures hanging on the wall had certain people cut out of them.

It got worse though. While I was there the owner made all these ridiculous requests, such as not plugging in any electronics to the tiny, crappy little television in the living room (after initially just saying no iPod's into the stereo system that runs throughout the house, then to tell me once we got there that the stereo is no longer operational), and extensively cleaning out the oven, the stove, the fireplace, etc., despite the mandatory $xxx cleaning fee. But you know what? No problem, we did all this. When we left the place was spotless. I get a call a few days later saying it was in terrible condition (which it was *not* - we sprayed down everything, cleaned all our dishes, swept out the fireplace, cleaned the stove, etc.) and that he was keeping the ENTIRE deposit despite multiple previous claims to the contrary. He claimed a door had blown open - a door that we had never used, no less! - and that it was our fault. When he called to tell me about it and I tried to plead my case he simply told me "he was not going to discuss it" and hung up on me. He then said he would be e-mailing me a list of "issues" but to this point (almost a week later) I have not yet received such a list. I have challenged the amount of the deposit on the credit card and am looking into the New Hampshire Small Claims Court at this point because this is so blatantly ridiculous. As the last person to leave the house I can vouch for its condition when we left. The beds needed to be turned down and it needed to be vacuumed. You know, routine cleaning after a four-night stay for ten people, hence the additional $xxx cleaning fee. But this is unacceptable, and Jim, the owner, should be ashamed of himself. Please feel free to contact me before booking this place. Needless to say, I highly recommend against it.
Owner's Response: As the proud owner of this beautiful home and the recepient of five excellent reviews for just these past six months; one rambling and poorly written negative review filled with rage and misinformation will not appear benificial to the upset renter. You will note he failed to even mention he signed a three page lease and that lease identifies the nine documented violations. The cleaning service observed and stated on entry to the house; "Jim, this is the worst condition of your home I have ever seen by your family or renters." I then had two more witnesses substantiate those allegations. This is the first time in 10 years of renting any deposit or partial monies were with-held. Due to the excessive cleaning time required, $300. of the original $500. security deposit was retained. Also be advised two ovens were left dirty, the coffee pot left on for two days, the deck French Door found wide open two days after renters left, fire place left dirty and unclean, food left in both kitchen sinks, spills left in the refrigerator, beds were left unstripped, and so on. The renter in charge of the 10 people in the house called me on leaving stating "the house was left in a clean state and they all planned to return for Valentine's Day." Needless to say after the cleaning service and outside witnesses provided their negative and derogatory critique, the person in charge was told they will never be allowed to return to this property. The rental history for the past 10 years always included families with children of all ages and always 8 - 10 persons. It is regretful in this instance 10 young adults cannot treat a beautiful lakefront home with more respect and care. Perhaps this owner needs to listen to the other five excellent reviews; all who recommend renters be families and age 55 and above. I thank you for your time and interest.

A Great Getaway For All Ages

This home offers all that is described and then some. We recently went with 4 Adults and 4 kids and everyone had a great time. We had three 10 year olds and one 6 year old and there was plenty for all to do. The house is literally 20-30 ft from the lake with docks for boating and fishing. The kids caught both sunfish and a couple of large mouth bass and have all become avid anglers. They are still talking about the big one that lives under the dock that got away.

The views, especially the sunsets, are spectacular. Some days we stayed at the house and others we went out exploring, but everyday was great. The house is extremely comfortable and well equipped. I highly recommend it.

This cabin and the location were a perfect fit for our family. There are so many excellent hiking trails within a short drive, which kept my older kids really happy. The lake was great for kayaking and canoeing, and we enjoyed playing tennis (the court has lights!). The kitchen was fully equipped and the grill worked great so that we could produce large meals to feed our hungry guys. There are very nice bedrooms with comfy beds, plenty of bathrooms, and the place was very clean. We weren't inside very much (great weather!), but when we were, we really enjoyed the views of the lake from the large living room and the master bedroom. Three loons were occasionally spotted on the lake, and they produced their eerie, wonderful loon call most evenings and nights. But we did not spot a moose this year!

This home and property is truly beautiful. We stayed during one of the hottest weeks of the summer and the breeze from the lake kept us comfortable the whole time. The house is very spacious and clean. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook along with the gas grill and the outdoor fireplace that my daughter loved to roast marshmellows over. The views to the lake are amazing. The sunsets and moon were gorgeous over the lake. We also enjoyed watching the rain/lightning storm over the lake. We enjoyed fishing and tubing (if you bring your own boat just be careful for the well-marked rocky shallow areas). Everyone caught something. The biggest fish was caught right off the dock. We also enjoyed the tennis court and baskeball hoop on the property. I would recommend this house highly. It was a very peaceful and relaxing vacation.

From the time I turned into the driveway to the time I left I felt nurtured by the natural beauty surrounding the property and the flawless taste of the property itself. The home is situated right on the lake and the pictures only hint at the beautiful sunrises and sunsets and mountains at every turn.

I was very impressed by the newness of the home that was apparently built by a craftsman. Every amenity was available while maintaining a sense of a country home. It was a pleasure seeing the lake from every room. The home was spacious, well-planned out and meticulously clean.

The owner has a wonderful built in music system that can transmit to every room including the outside decks. What fun to be in the hammock overlooking the lake, listening to music protected by the shade of the trees. Or barbeque on the deck and have a glass of wine at sunset.

The property sits on four acres of land that is well manicured with lovely natural gardens. There are no curtains on the windows since the spot is so private. Being a tennis player, I was not disappointed by the Hard-Tru court that was in perfect condition with night lights as well.

My only regret was having to leave this little piece of heaven. As I left I only wished I was at the beginning of my stay and hope I have the good fortune to recreate this experience next year.
