Gardiner Cabin Rental Photos and Description
Cabin, 4 bedrooms + sunroom, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps (11-12)

Winner of the 2010 Historic Restoration Award from the Montana Historical Alliance , this rare 2 story hand-hewn square log cabin was built in 1907. Austrians used Broad Axes to fashion compound dovetail corners locking the logs in place for over 100 years.

It is a short 5 Minute drive to the North Entrance of Yellowstone Park.

The cabin sits on 42 acres called 'The Little Trail Creek Ranch.' It once fed tourists in Yellowstone Park. It is only 4 miles north of Gardiner,Montana and the north entrance to Yellowstone. The cabin is not visable from the highway, and has lots of grass, trees and water. Out front sit the mountains of Yellowstone Park and the Yellowstone River. In the back is the Absaroka Wilderness. The old tree stumps that built the cabin are still visable up the cliffs behind the house.

Herds of Elk, Bison,Deer and Bighorm Sheep use our land all year due to the trees and open water from abundant springs.

We like to go to 'The Boiling River' - one of the best natural hot springs in the world! We were married there 26 years ago, and still go with the kids whenever we can. It is only 7 miles from our door, and it's free once inside Yellowstone Park. The spring is closed May and part of June due to high water, but Chico Hot Springs is 22 miles north, and it has wonderful food. On Sunday, you can eat the brunch and swim for free.

For 13 years we fixed up the cabin. It was fun. There are all new appliances, a 6 burner stove with convection oven, new electric and plumbing, and heating. We used antiques and old wood salvaged from train stations and hotels where needed. The old wood in the cabin has a certain 'glow' that comes from age.

During the renovation, I found many items I put into the chinking. Pocket watches, coins, buttons, even a gun--and 3 bullets in the logs [all at waist high level].

There is a steam shower. A 4000 pound Tulikivi woodstove [for use only in winter] uses radiant heat to warm the cabin. It is made of soapstone, which will stay warm a full 2 days after a fire.

There is one bedroom downstairs, and 3 upstairs. A single bed is in the sun room, and the couch downstairs in the Tulikivi room is oddly comfortable for sleeping.

So, if you appreciate the Real Deal -- with history, wildlife, quiet and nature-- welcome to our cabin. You'll find our circle of trees cool and refreshing even on the hottest day.

Don't forget to look at the stars at night. See the Milky Way and watch for shooting stars. A pioneer superstition says, if you see a falling star and say 'money, money, money' before it goes out - you'll be rich! Lay on the grass at night--- it's the perfect place to try your luck.

Hosts- Alex, Beth, and Emma --

The cabin was a great starting off point for our family adventure. We feel very lucky to have been able to stay in such a beautiful place. The elks coming to eat the apples off the tree and seeing the big horn sheep made it all the more special.
Thanks so much!

What a fantastic place! The setting, the history, the atmosphere, the space! Although our time here was brief, it was fantastic. Our large family had plenty of room to feel comfortable and cozy, but the warmth and authenticity of this home made it even more perfect as our third stop on an eight day journey of Nat'l Parks and Monuments.
We are grateful to have stayed here, hope to be back and will highly recommend this wonderful home to all our our friends and family.

We absolutely loved the experiance of staying @ the cabin. Once we stepped in, it immediately put us in a relaxing vacation mindset. The work you've done retoring the cabin is simply amazing. The cozy stay was defintely one of the highlights and will stay in our memory for a long time. We are leaving with a longing to come back again, and hopefully we will!

Staying at this cabin was one of the best things we did. What a beautiful setting and view just like my own country. The cabin had everything you could think of. The owners have stocked the cabin with all supplies that you would need. The interior of the cabin has been finished with such imagination and skill, I raise my hat to the owner [Alex] for the toil he has put into restore this cabin.

This is an extraordinary property. Very close to Yellowstone National Park. Has great views. Everything inside the cabin is first class. Very clean. Owners couldn't be more helpful and attentive, It was a thrill to stay at this cabin built in 1907 and lovingly restored. I would not hesitate to return and look forward to doing so.

Stayed with a party of 6 for 4 nights and had a wonderful time! The house is beautifully decorated and full of gorgeous antiques, many of which provide an interesting history of Yellowstone and the region as a whole. Everything we needed for housekeeping was waiting there for us, making it easy to settle in immediately. Easy 5-minute access to Yellowstone and town of Gardiner. Enjoyed the animals at the cabin itself - heard elk bugling at night and even had elk in the front yard. Owners are outstanding in every way!

Hello Alex and Beth,

I have tried to submit a review for your cabin, but my password is not working, and for some reason, when I have the website email me, it never comes through.

Here is the text that I wrote. You are welcome to use it. If you can let me know how to post it, I will. We had such a good time at your lovely cabin.

Thanks Again,

Laurel Galli

We were not prepared for the beauty and charm of this renovated cabin, convenient to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. The cabin sits in a grassy yard with fruit trees and a clear creek running near (and in one case, through) charming outbuildings. Delightful period details grace each room of the cabin. Our four generation family enjoyed meals together in at the long wooden kitchen table near the vintage stove and playing records on the Victrola in the living room. We wandered with our toddler around the property, enjoying lunch at the picnic table in a wooded glade. It was tempting to stay "home", but we ventured out every day to nearby hikes, fishing, rafting and exploring in and near the park, thanks to tips from our hosts about what to see and do. Many thanks to them for their generosity. We hope to return to this unique vacation home in the near future.

We had a great time here at the cabin. We used it as our home base for a week to tour Yellowstone Park. It is in a great location just minutes from Gardiner, MT and the north entrance of the park.Yellowstone is beautiful! There is so much more to see there than we ever expected. You need at least 5 days in the park. The cabin has been wonderfully restored while retaining the original character of the building. We visited Chico Hot Springs for dinner one night and also rode up to Livingston for an afternoon. We were there in June and it was unseasonably hot. The cabin did get warm upstairs in the afternoons but cooled off nice at night. We had several Elk in the yard which was great.
