Everything was perfect in this comfortable apartment that is conveniently located in North Beach. All the amenities and attention to detail were very much appreciated. And, although not directly attributed to the apartment, the weather was perfect making the views even more enjoyable. We don't like to dine out every night and found all the cooking utensils we needed in the small efficient kitchen. It was also very nice to find coffee and fresh fruit that we enjoyed throughout our stay. The property description is accurate but the views are even more spectacular. We found everything very clean and well maintained. The owner went out of her way to assist us in retrieving a package we had sent to us that we needed for the trip. We were close to some very nice restaurants, both casual and upscale, in North Beach and had some very nice meals. The little grocery store on the corner had any extras we needed. We highly recommend this place and hope to return again. The bonus was having access to a parking spot a few blocks away. We parked the car and didn't see it for 5 days as the public transportation is excellent in SFO. Thank you Barbara for making our stay perfect.

My husband and I returned from 10 days in San Francisco and stayed in this apartment for the entire 10 days. It is as fabulous as the pictures and the views are amazing. The North Beach neighborhood is a great place to vacation and you should spend as much time getting to know this area as you can. The coffee shops, cafe's and bars are very friendly and welcoming. It is a lot of walking and the walk to the apartment is challenging but very doable. The weather is unpredictable and be sure to bring some warm clothes so you can take advantage of the roof top deck and views. As many people have stated there is no need for a car as the bus runs right by the street and cable cars are close and taxis a phone call away. ( David from yellow cab was great ) All you need for your stay is at the apartment and Barbara is only a phone call away. We were surprised at the chilliness of the weather so make sure you have some warmer clothes and dress in layers. It was a great trip and staying at this apartment was a big part of the greatness.

We travel frequently, and have rented many apartments in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. This place stands out as one of the very best we have rented, and for S.F., at reasonable weekly rental rates. We were here for a week in Oct., 2011, celebrating my (gasp!) 70th birthday.
The apartment is spacious, with a large living room and bedoom, a small dining room and kitchen, and a nice bathroom, with full tub and shower. It is very well decorated, and clean, with original hard-wood floors and nice rugs, etc. The view from the living room and bedroom bay windows is absolutely spectacular, of the Bay and Alcatraz, and of Coit Tower on the right!

It was also well maintained, with all kitchen utensils needed, etc. A nice touch,(one of my pet peeves at some rentals) was that there was an ample supply of diswhasher and laundry soap, extra bar soaps, Kleenex, paper towels, etc., for a one-week stay.

Delightful "extras": a lovely bouquet of lilies on the fireplace mantle; carnations in the bathroom and bedroom; a bowl of chocolates in the living room; and finally, a bottle of champagne and a card for my birthday!

So this is a really great place in a fantastic location, just up the hill from Columbus Ave., the center of North Beach...

Public transportation recommendations: Buy a "Muni Passport" at the Visitor Info. Desk just down from the baggage claim at S.F. Int--good for all buses, trolleys,and cable cars(wonderful, but very expensive by individual ride!) for a week. Cash only.
Convenient buses: 45 (Union St.) goes to Market St. Also, if you don't feel like walking up the three steep blocks to the apartment from Columbus Ave., take either 41 or 45 and get off at Jones, a half-block above the apartment. Both cable car lines stop on Union, one downhill at Taylor, one uphill at Hyde. To go to Ferry building, change at California.
There is a small grocery at Union and Hyde, open early, has newspapers and beer and wine.
Local restaurants: Mario's, Columbus and Union--real S.F.; L'Osterio del Forno, Columbus, between Union and Green; Frascati's, on Hyde, a couple of blocks downhill from the grocery store; The Pizza, Union and Grant--the best; Molanari Deli on Columbus--delicious take-out Italian sandwiches.

Not so local: Boulevard, Mission St. end., one of our favorites in the entire world; Any of the restaurants in the Ferry Bldg.--we especially like to take lunch at the wine store there, with their recommended glasses of wine of the month. Enjoy!

We can only echo what has been said before- utterly charming cozy apartment in one of the best parts of San Francisco Russian Hill/North Beach. It is so accessible to transportation, you really do not need car here; the living room and bedroom both have bay windows that take advantage of a stupendous view of the city, truly world class! Barbara is so gracious and accommodating, you will not be wanting for anything! Loads of books, magazines, delightful candies, fresh flowers. It is a great value for the money. We have been to SF many times, and this is a truly fabulous find! Thank you Barbara

I have been staying at various places in and around San Francisco for almost 30 years and this one is at the top of my list. Great location: only three blocks to the heart of North Beach but still tranquil and quiet (except for the occasional foghorns from the Bay). We found everything we needed at the apartment, including coffee in the fridge, sugar and spices for cooking etc. Barbara is very helpful and considerate -the keys were sent to us to Germany !!! If you are looking for a truly San Franciscan experience - stay here !

Highly recommend staying in this wonderful penthouse. The location is perfect, can walk to many great tourist destinations and/or short cab rides to anywhere else you want to go. Barbara makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive with fresh flowers in every room, chocolates and a bowl of fresh fruit. The bed is super comfortable, the kitchen has everything you'd ever need and the living/bedroom has spectacular views. If you are planning a trip to San Francisco this is where you need to stay!

I have stayed in many places in San Francisco since I was a college student at Cal Berkeley in the early 1970's and this is the best. A beautiful and spacious apartment with a fabulous view, a great location, and a super helpful owner in Barbara. Like others, I would like to keep this apartment a secret, but that would be unfair. My highest recommendation.

My husband and I have never written a review even though we have travelled extensively, but we made an exception for this wonderful unit. The description is accurate; the property is well-decorated, clean, light with a small but highly efficient kitchen, loads of hot water and a full bath, and close to the many activities that San Francisco offers. But what make this property fabulous is the view. We were stunned when we first walked in and spent much time just gazing. To top it all off, Barbara was very helpful answering all our questions in short order.
If you plan a visit to San Francisco, this property is well worth considering.
