Rueter House South Austin

Stayed for two nights with six of us in four bedrooms. The location is great, the view from the rooftop deck fabulous, and the house cool (in a funky way). Overall we enjoyed our stay and hosted a really nice party for about 40 guests. Would rent again if we had that many people.
Some small problems were: No soap or shampoo in the bathrooms. Heaters on rooftop deck do not work. Forth bedroom is actually a sun porch that can only be accessed through another bedroom and has no curtains. One bath upstairs and one downstairs.
Owner's Response: Chicago Guy- Thanks for the review, and while accurate, we do explain in the listing that our house is a 3 bedroom house with 4 beds one being in the sunroom. This is really for overflow capacity or kids, etc...As for the lack of soap, shampoo, and non working heaters, all that is supposed to be there. Sorry for the mix up. A quick call and our onsite caretaker would have taken care any of these comfort items. We will gladly offer you a free night any time you want to come back.

Wonderful Weekend Getaway near downtown

My husband and I along with another couple and a single friend enjoyed a weekend getaway in this beautiful estate. What a treat it was; spacious, beautiful, and perfect for a group of close friends. The place would comfortably sleep 7 people. Built in 1934 in a style my designer friend declared "Spanish Colonial"- lots of custom tile, carved wood, and original fixtures- the place has been kept in pristine condition. Very clean, roomy, and everything works. (Great bed linens and comfortable mattress, too! ) If you appreciate charming old architecture with lots of original and handmade touches you will love this place. Lends itself well to cooking, dining, and spending quality time with good friends in an old-world atmosphere. Sitting out on the terrace in the evening with our good friends, watching the sun set over the Austin skyline, there was no other place I'd rather be. The woods surrounding the home give a sense of tranquil seclusion. Tho no shortage of things to walk to nearby - great restaurants, music clubs, the community swimming pool - we choose to spend the whole time chilling on the deck with our pals. Would also make a great place to rent for a big party or even a wedding reception. Will definitely rent this place again and next time bring more friends.

I used this house as my Bridal Suite for a change of pace. We all were blown away. I've lived in Austin for 16 yrs, and this house has one of the most amazing views of downtown.

The estate definitely has the historic feel and is something special. If you're looking for a modern, hight tech place, then keep looking. But if you want a memorable stay, then this is your place. We had a few guests over during the weekend, and everyone wished they would have booked it instead of a hotel. It really is like staying in the country in the middle of trendy Austin, minutes from SOCO, Downtown, and Zilker.

We will look to book again next time family and friends come to town.

We also loved talking to Bennie, the caretaker. And the Karyoke machine was a big hit!

We spent 2 nights at this amazing home for our daughters' birthdays (ages 28 and 24). House was so roomy and had so much character, we were very comfortable and it was so much better than having to get 3 seperate hotel rooms, we got to hang out more as a family! Neighborhood was very quiet and the view from the rooftop patio was the best in Austin I'm sure! Would love to go back next year!
