Photos and Description of the Farmville vacation house rental
4 Bedrooms, 3 full baths, Twin Daybeds in loft and basement, Sleeps 10

The 1/2 mi. somewhat rocky drive often provides excellent wildlife viewing and may lead you a million miles from Monday. When you reach the home, parking is no problem (plenty of space). As you enter, the custom cedar is the most noticeable feature. The living area to the right has comfortable seating and a HD flat screen TV. The dining area is open to both the kitchen and living areas. The table seats 8 or 10 good friends with an additional 3 counter seats. The fully equipped kitchen has lots of counter space, coffee and spices for home cooked meals. The master bedroom has a 32 inch TV and a king bed, . Upstairs there is a twin bedroom with trundle and another with a queen bed .The loft has a daybed and large game table with leather chairs..The basement has a pool table, foosball, and a big screen TV with a DVD player and DISH TV

Outside there is a hot tub on one of the decks with rockers provided for the usually excellent stargazing. In the yard the fire pit has some wood provided.

Big recent NEWS from Spring Creek Cabin:

!, We now have high speed internet and WiFi

2, The High Bridge on High Bridge Trail State Park is open. (all 34 miles)

3. A branch of the Museam of the Confederacy has opened in Appromattox.

4. Free long distance phone service is now available.

Shopping/Churches: The area has many of the national chains, including most restaurants, Wal Mart, and Lowes within 20 miles. The big store in town is Green Front Furniture in Farmville which occupies 12 huge warehouses with upscale items from around the world. Numerous antique and flea markets dot the area and an auction or estate sale occurs almost every weekend. Lynchburg is about 40 miles to the West and Richmond is about 70 miles to the East.

There is a large Amish population in the area and churches of most denominations are close by. The biggest of them being the Thomas Road Baptist in Lynchburg..

Nature: Deer and turkeys are plentiful and often seen from the decks or on the driveway. Rabbits and squirrels are also in the area. Birds from the occasional eagle or hawk to sparrows can be seen. Much more rare are bear and fox sightings.

The home is quiet inside and outside except for the sounds of nature.

The night sky is a treat for city dwellers. No man made lights can be seen from the rear deck and our own spiral galaxy, the Milky Way, is often visible as a faint band of light across the sky.

The 34 Mile High Bridge Trail is open to horses, walkers and non motorized bikes. It follows the old Norfolk & Western rail route through Farmville and over the Appomattox River as part of the rails to trails program. The trail's Western end is in Pamplin VA about 3 miles from the house. An easy horse ride on marked roads.

Relaxation: The comfortable beds are nice but the jetted tubs and the outdoor hot tub can help even the most stressed traveler. Even in the depths of winter it is worth a short sprint across the rear deck to experience the bubbles and water of the 98-104 degree jets.(easily adjusted to your liking)

A game of pool, foosball, cornhole, a video game, or a movie ( DVD player available) on the big screen is also available'

If quiet is your preference this is the spot for you. The nearest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away. Besides the crickets, about all you can hear is the occasional faint rooster or cow..

The new DISH HOPPER TV system allow you to watch any primetime show for the last 8 days. If you wait one day there is a selection that will eliminate the commercials for you.

About James F. Booker

I am retired and spend time improving the cabin and surrounding property. Our plan is to move there eventually though our condo requires considerably less upkeep.

James F. Booker purchased this house in 1830
Why James F. Booker chose Farmville

The land has been in my family since before the civil war and my grandparents home (over 100 years old) on the property is being rehabed and may eventually house additional rental beds.

What makes this house unique

Renters seem to find a variety of things to enjoy about the place. I put considerable sweat equity into building the cabin and am very biased so perhaps reading the reviews may give you a more balanced view.

A wonderful stay

We had a wonderful stay in Pamplin and in this beautiful home. The house had everything we could have needed and it was very well kept. The fire pit was used a lot and made for the perfect way to end our day, the hot tub was a bonus!! Mr. Booker (owner) was fantastic to work with from the beginning (when we had lots of questions before we booked the rental) throughout our entire stay. He provided very clear directions on everything we needed to know, and was always very prompt. The beds were comfy (and their were lots of them) and the amenities (satellite TV, internet, gas grill, full-size washer/dryer, free long-distance) were all very nice to have. The property the home sits on is secluded, quiet, very well-kept and so much fun to enjoy. It was the perfect week in a wonderful home!!!

A great place for family

Our family seems to be spread all over the U.S. and rarely finds the opportunity to come together so we decided to spend a week at Spring Creek Cabin. The cabin is beautiful and roomy. We had about 10 in our group (3 were small children) and had plenty of beds and seating. Some of our family went to Appomattox one day to explore history there while others decided to go to Monticello. Another time, some went to Colonial Williamsburg for the day (about 2 hrs away) for sight seeing and dinner at the King's Arms Inn. The best times however where those spent on the porch reminiscing and those times we gathered around the large dining room table to "break bread" together. Good laughs...wonderful memories made.
Jim was very helpful and as soon as we walked in we could tell he had put much thought into the needs of his guests. There were things to do - pool table, foosball, big screen TV, hot-tub etc and the kitchen was very well supplied.
We highly recommend Spring Creek Cabin!!

Perfection in Pamplin, VA

This cabin is absolutely stunning! The pictures do not do this place justice. The cabin is spacious, modern and immaculate. The rural setting was exactly what we were looking for, with grocery stores, restaurants etc. just a short drive away. Civil War history surrounds this place. High Bridge State Park is beautiful and rich in history. Appomattox is a short drive and very well worth the trip. The layout was perfect for us. We were two couples and had much more room than we even needed. The kitchen is spacious and very well stocked with very nice tableware, cookware, flatware, etc. The house is well stocked with plenty of games, music, television and even a computer with high speed internet access. The property caretaker was very nice and helpful in every way while totally respecting our privacy. The owner is extremely easy to work with and provided us with excellent and friendly customer service. I would highly recommend this rental if you are looking for a comfortable even luxurious cabin in which to spend your vacation. We would definitely go back, fall colors must be magnificent on this lovely property! What a gem of a find!

This cabin is not only equipped with every amenity imaginable, it is also comfortable and immaculate. The large front porch was were we spent many hours having coffee and enjoying the serene peaceful setting. The owner is very friendly and easy to work with. The layout made sharing with another couple perfect. The property is wonderful with the old homestead and tobacco barn still standing on the property. The caretaker lives a stone's throw from the cabin, and she and her wonderful family totally respected our privacy, and were able to answer any questions we had about the surrounding area. We were within reasonable traveling distance to grocery stores and restaurants. The Civil War history surrounds the property, and the town of Appomattox, where the war finally ended was a short drive away. This was one of the best vacations we have ever had! Highly recommend this cabin as a place to renew and relax. Thank you, Jim for a wonderful experience! We'll be back!

Everything we wanted and more

My family and I rented this cabin for a family vacation. When reading the reviews, I felt that if the cabin was half as good as everyone said, it would be just what we were looking for. It was everything the reviews said and more. Jim has thought of everything possible to make this a memorable and comfortable vacation home. Not only is the area surrounded by history, but so is the cabin. We have rented several homes through VRBO and while they have all been nice, this is by far the cleanest and most comfortable home we've stayed in. I am very picky about where I stay and I had no problem with the cleanliness of the cabin. From the long driveway all the way to the property in back of the home, everything was simply beautiful, so quiet and relaxing. Truly all you can hear are the sounds of nature. My sisters and I are already trying to plan another short trip here in the fall, when the weather won't be so hot. The only problem I had with the cabin was convincing the rest of the family that we had to leave. I honestly can think of nothing that would make the cabin a better vacation home. Thanks again, Jim for opening up your beautiful home, and may God bless you richly.

Family Vacation

We found the perfect place for a family vacation. The cabin is roomy, very clean and comfortable and an ideal set up for our 5 children, grandparents and parents.
The owner couldn't have been nicer, (in the event of an a/c problem...repair service was available in less than 3 hours).

My grandchildren are already planning for next year's trip to the "great log cabin in the woods". Pool table, foosball table, multiple tv's, music, games (and a wonderful game table in the loft), along with an awesome fire pit that roasted marshmellows just perfectly. The most enjoyed activity was the hammock! We even found some wild blackberries and some wonderful wildflowers to adorn the dinner table.

A wonderful time was had by all! This property is highly recommended by the Dunham family.

Perfect In Every Way

Our family rented this home for the Hampden-Sydney graduation weekend and our stay really was perfect in every way. The location is absolutely beautiful and the home has every amenity that we could think of and some that we didn't. It was a delight to spend time chatting on the porch and roast marshmallows around the fire pit. Hours were spent playing horseshoes and taking walks. It was a home away from home for us and provided the perfect venue to celebrate in with family. We look forward to stays here in the future. Thank you for your hospitality!

We Shall Return

In a nutshell, for me being a suburb slicker, I always long for a getaway into pastoral or mountain settings. This is a superb modern house on 100 acres in the rolling hillsides of southern Virginia. There are hay bales in the field, birds galore, a stream you can walk to, an old barn with a tractor, a hammock, a great firepit out back, and more stars than you can count at night.

The house itself is maintained and furnished beautifully, and equipped I believe better than any we've stayed at before, including nice touches like plenty of toilet paper, kitchen items, and a stack of wood to help yourselves to out by the firepit. The gas grill is bodacious also.

Part of picking this place for our recent getaway was the rich historical setting, which we explored some during our time there. Nearby Appommatox is the site of Lee's surrender on 9 April 1865 after his army was flushed out of Petersburg. (recall Lincoln was assassinated a mere 5 days later). The retreat path is detailed well in the first 90 pages of Bill O'Reilly's recent book Killing Lincoln, and many of those key sites, including one of the most devastating battles of the war (Saylor's Creek) are nearby and preserved well. We visited the High Bridge which was key in Grant's pursuit of Lee (renovation of this bridge was just completed and opened in April this year- which completes a 30-mile-long rails-to-trails bike trail).

Stay here- you'll love it.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the most comprehensive review to date We work hard to make a stay a pleasure and it is good to hear it is working.

Long weekend with sisters, Mom & Grandmother

My two sisters, mother, grandmother and I had a wonderful, serene, long weekend at this beautifully decorated and cozy home. We've never had time like this together and took great advantage of lingering on the porch and enjoying the sounds from the surrounding woods that came in the space between our conversations. We loved the 'tucked-away' feel and isolation from the buzzing traffic and humming telephone lines. It was perfectly clean, and we had every thing we needed to enjoy our nights together. We only needed a few groceries of our own, so the escape was extremely affordable as well. Thank you for opening this beautiful home-away-from-home to all.
