Abraham was a shipbuilder and traveled to the West Indies, New Haven, Boston and Portland. This home is still owned by Somes descendants and is listed on the National Historic Register. We want our guests to fully experience the island and all it has to offer!
As a young child, my parents brought us to Mt Desert. I have always been in love with the island and wanted to capture its magic. I have a masters in Art History and Museum work and worked in the Smithsonian before raising three children. I have always been in love with the quality of light in Maine. I paint on the island in the summer and you can see my work at the Gallery Somes Sound in Somesville near the house.
There is nothing like waking up the the morning mist floating over the Mill Pond down to the harbor. We have ocean and lake access within walking distance.
