We stayed in this apartment as a group of four (me, my girlfriend and her parents, for celebrating the 50th bithday of her father). The apartment was nice and spacy, with all the essentials, free wi-fi was a plus. The stairs can be a bit tiring as it's up on the fourth floor, but no big problem. Good location close to the city centre, and for this price I would definately stay here again. Jose Luis were a very nice host, explained all we needed and was open for questions, while still being non-intrusive. Cheers from Norway!

We stayed three nights at Jose's apartment. Jose was waiting when we arrived from the airport, and much unexpected on our part, he even helped us get our luggage up to the apartment. He was most helpful in getting us settled in and providing touring directions and recommendations about the area. We had a wonderful visit to Lisbon, in part because of Jose's excellent recommendations.

The apartment was very clean, modern, well-equipped and well-situated. We would highly recommend it. The building and locks are very secure. We were most comfortable there, and this helped to make our visit to Lisbon most enjoyable.

This is as good as it gets as far and location if you decide to visit Lisbon. It was the first time visiting Lisbon for me and my partner, and we absolutely loved it!

The station for metro/suburban train/tram/ferry is within walking distance, as are many small cafes and dining establishments to start your day. I can't say enough about how much food is around...all very good too. The old town feel is not lost on this location. It was not unusual to be beckoned in by a shop owner to try the prato da dia (dish of the day). Look for this and you will be pleasantly surprised!

We stayed 10 days without any hiccups...well, just one. On our arrival, our baggage was lost due to bad weather in the States. Jose, our host, absolutely shined and was very helpful in coordinating getting our bags by the next day. We used him as our emergency contact and he was able to speak to the courier about our luggage so we could explore the city and not wait at the apartment for our luggage.

We can't say enough about Jose Luiz and how friendly and warm he was to us. To say he was hospitable sounds dry...he really is a great guy. His personal touch is found all around the apartment, as he designed it himself. He also was a great guide from day one, giving us insight as to where to go and best times of day to visit some attractions, especially off the tourist beat.

All-in-all my partner and I agreed this was our best trip to date and we were very glad to do it with Home Away again. I would HIGHLY recommend staying at this apartment...the price is very right, the host is great, and the location couldn't be better. Thanks again Jose!

We are a family of 2 adults and 3 children and very much enjoyed our stay in this apartment which is centrally located and conveniently close to available parking. The owner is very friendly and helpful with recommendations. The apartment is clean and nicely decorated with all necessary amenities plus unexpected extras. The only thing that might deter some is that there are several flights of stairs with no elevator. If that is not a problem for you, do not hesitate to rent this apartment!

A good place to stay, nice typical old Lisbon neighborhood, good location in the city centre, but at the same time quiet and calm area. Central area in a walk distance, as well as one of the main train and underground stations.

You should choose this apartment if you love to feel the typical old Lisbon atmosphere, many good and non-expensive places for food, drink and coffee around - small restaurants and cafes. Just a 5 minutes away is one of the main sightseeing spots giving a view to the whole bay with the Lisbon emblematic bridge.

Last, but not least, Jose is a great person not only as a landlord, but also in terms of giving so many clues where to go and which places to visit in and near Lisbon. If you are interested in Lisbon history and architecture, he is the right guide.

The apartment is nice, cozy and well equipped and the lack of an elevator to 4th floor was not a serious trouble after spending several hours on typical Lisbon sloping streets.Slopes, after all, are one of the common things between Lisbon and San Francisco. Trams and the bridge are the others.

The free internet is great. The only downside is the apartment is on the fourth floor and stairs are the only access. Great exercise everyday. Everything is within walking distance or you can take a trolley San Fransisco style, a bus, or a train. The restaurants and grocery stores are within a couple of blocks. The owner of the apartment lives next door, he is very helpful in identifying the sites and getting around Lisbon.

The apartment was a great choice for us. We were a group of friends traveling together and the place was spacious enough for us and all our traveling gear. The two bedrooms have really comfortable beds (something rarely true in a lot of rentals) and giant windows filtering in lots of light and overlooking a typical Lisboan street with beautiful architecture. The windows open fully, and also tilt open a bit at the top, allowing for really effective climate control even on a hot day. The apartment has a great kitchen, actually pretty big as well, and really functional. We cooked a meal or two there, but mostly ate out because Lisbon has great food. Even the diner across the street was delicious and cheap. The living room has cable and wifi, though truthfully not much used since we were out exploring, and it was comfy and homey and nicely decorated. The location is great, too, a 10 or 15 minute walk to the subway as well as a commuter train line that takes you out to Cascais and other beaches. There are buses and trolleys that run right in front of the building, so transit is easy. The apartment is a quick walk up the hill to the Chiado/Baxia/Barrio Alto areas with lots of restaurants, shops, bars, etc. Our host directed us to some really cool, hidden places that we wouldn't have found on our own. He also has a huge basket of maps, travel books, brochures, etc. on the area and gave us his own map with local resources, like grocers, banks, favorite restaurants, etc. The immediate neighborhood has some banks, small grocers, something akin to a US walgreens, pharmacia, restaurants, etc, but isn't a hugely bustling street. For me that was perfect because Lisboan nightlife is lively, so it's nice to have a quiet place to come home to, and the neighborhoods with more nightlife are so close by. Oh, and there's a washer in the unit, so we were able to launder mid-trip, which was really useful! All in all, a great place to stay that I'd highly recommend.
