A panoramic view of ocean, mountains, ocean
I had the pleasure of spending my birthday here at this incredible setting in Feb 2010. After spending a busy week at the hustle and bustle of Waikiki, we spent a week here and I have to say, I liked this location even more. You have your own private, fenced-in grass backyard, hovering 3 feet above the beach. The views of the ocean are unobscured and the only thing better than having a sunrise breakfast in the dining room with the large oceanview windows is actually opening up the door with your cup of coffee and taking it out on the beach. We brought our binoculars and watched the local surfers, chatted with very friendly neighbors as they strolled by on the beach, and had a very hard time trying to figure out which way to situate our chairs outside -- one direction faces the ocean, the other an amazing view of the kualoa mountain range. Kualoa Ranch is an absolute must-see -- a perfect outing for families of all interests, and only a 1/2 mile away. They offer everything from horse and ATV rides to guided-bus tours of gardens and movie and TV locations, such as Jurassic Park and LOST. This is also historically considered one of the sacred regions on Oahu and it's easy to see why from the dramatic landscape. The Polynesian Cultural Center and the North Shore are also an easy drive from here, and the roadside shrimp trucks along the way are not to be passed up. Debbie, the owner, was incredibly accommodating and gracious. Mom, in her mid-70s and using a walker, also had easy mobility within the house and backyard. While there are no steps to get down to the beach 3 feet below, there is a managable sandy slope that leads from the side of the fence down to the beach, and she managed that very well. The house was very clean, perfectly laid out to make maximum use of the view from the living room, dining room, and kitchen, and it was a great treat to hear the ocean waves putting us to sleep each night. The beach felt as luxuriously private as it gets, and while there are a good number of coral beds to navigate in this stretch of the ocean, it is very easy to navigate over and explore them with the complimentary house boogie board. I would absolutely come back here, and consider this location one of my absolute top favorites from a number of oceanfront rental homes we have stayed at. Thanks so much Debbie, and sorry to take so long before posting a review! It says something, though, that 6 months later we're still thinking about this stay. :)
