We have just returned from an 8 day stay at Casa del Viento, "house of wind." A dear friend told us about this incredibly well designed, maintained, and appointed house on the Pacific Northwest coast of Costa Rica. Work, kids, school, and the daily grind, she said --- it's truly a place you can escape to.
Casa del Viento is a "slice of heaven" built into the hillside of a picturesque, gated community called Monte Paraiso near the local beach town of Playa Hermosa. Casa del Viento is a grand home even within its gated community. We arrived late at night in the rain, and were welcomed by friendly security staff at the gate. We were an intergenerational group of 11 including kids and my 94 year old father-in-law. Once settled in, we all felt so comfortable at Casa del Viento, it was difficult to go away on our excursions to raft, zip line, see volcanoes, hot springs, beaches, and so on. The maid service kept the house running effortlessly including doing our laundry. There was also a person who came by to maintain the pool. Gus, the concierge, was always available to answer all our questions!
We all enjoyed the pool and Spanish-style veranda overlooking the bay from which we enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets. We watched in fascination the mist of the clouds early in the morning hanging over the lushly vegetated hillside dissipate in the morning sunlight. We also enjoyed sitting by the lit pool at night under a starry sky with the lights of a town twinkling in the distance. There is a natural tranquility at Casa del Viento that restores the soul. In and around the pool garden we enjoyed the resident iguana, singing frogs, geckos, tropical birds, humming birds, and flitting butterflies. The gardens and balconies of the house added to the ambience of escape into luxury.
We generally ate family style at the house, buying and cooking local produce and meats bought at nearby produce stands and in town. The kitchen is fully equipped and was a pleasure to use. As my family said, wonderful memories were made at Casa del Viento, a priceless gift to us. Such incredibly nice accommodations shaped our whole experience in Costa Rica in such a positive way it will be a part of our lasting memories. We would definitely return to Casa del Viento. Incidentally, the only winds we experienced there were soothing breezes.
Finally, but of importance, the owners of this property were extremely helpful and knowledgeable in assisting us to arrange our stay in Costa Rica.

I have rented from these folks several times and have nothing but good to say. Homes are excellent. Concierge is the best! The housekeepers and pool help are courteous and contiencious. I rarely vacation in the same place twice, but these folks draw me back to Costa Rica at least once a year just to experience the package they offer!!! I'm tempted to do it again this year! Have fun!

Spent an unforgettable 3 weeks at Casa del Viento in Guana Caste Costa Rica. The house was beautiful, spacious and had a wonderful housekeeping staff that kept everything clean, welcoming and did laundry service daily, always leaving fresh towels. Gus the concierge was attentive and always available by phone or just down the road at the office to answer any questions and recommend things to do. We took several tours with Outdoor Adventures, including an overnight tour of the arenal volcano, another day tour of ziplining, whitewater tubing, and horseback riding. They also took us to Monteverde, several rainforest and cloudforest tours. They guides were exceptionally knowledgeable about local flora and fauna, took us to local restaurants for great food, and were just a lot of fun! Everyone made us feel welcome, secure and tried to provide an unforgettable experience---we definitely view this as our first trip to Costa Rica, certainly not the last!
We had family members come in from all areas of the country and europe---we never felt crowded and the guest house provided a separate escape for the teenagers of the group. The pool was well maintained, and had bushes at the edge with butterflies and hummingbirds. You could hear the monkeys in the morning while sipping coffee on the patio. I would highly recommend this property for your next vacation!

The house,location,and people were great.Guss and the housekeeping staff were exceptional. We loved the quiet,natural setting at the house, and there were many off site activities to satisfy all of our age groups. It was an experience that we will look forward to repeating.

My family and i just returned from a wonderful week at Casa del Viento. If you want that true luxurious, vacation feeling, along with the comforts of home, then this is the place for you. The house sits atop a very steep hill overlooking a panoramic view of the beatiful mountains and Gulf of Papagayo.
The patio, (where we spent a great deal of time) and the infinity pool overlook the calming waters of the gulf, and the mountain. The sights and sounds of nature are with you throughout the day, from the lovely hummingbirds, to the lush greenery, to screeching of the monkeys in the distance. We spent a lot of time reading, playing scrabble and napping and watching the everchanging landscape and the spectacular pink and purple sunsets.
If you want adventure spend some time at Rincon de la Vieja National Forest. We took on the challenge of the zip line, rode horseback to a beautiful waterfall where we went swmimming in cool, clear water. We hiked on another day and saw the volcanic boiling mud pots - very interesting!
We also went beach hopping, one of the nicest beaches was Playa Ocatal, try lunch and cocktails at Father Roosters, very good!

The house is very well equipped. If you choose to cook, the kitchen has everything you need. Should you choose to have dinner out, ther are many local restaurants with varied cuisines.
The concierge staff was most helpful, and answered our queries quickly. The cleaning staff came every day but the weekend, they were quick and efficient, the house was always clean.
The Costa Rican people are very warm, kind and genuine.
I would absoulutely, highly recommend this property to family and friends.
I can't wait to go back again.

My newlywed husband and I ventured out to Costa Rica for our honeymoon. When we arrived to Casa Viento in Playa Hermosa we were at an aw with the beauty of the place we were about to stay in for two weeks. We definately found ourselves running around the house looking into each room feeling the costa rican rhythm to the home. We enjoyed the home everyday we were there. Laying by the pool which over looked mountains, for us it was a sight to remember. We really enjoyed every minute of the stay, it was really hard to say good-bye. The time we had in the casa was memorable and the best for us on our honeymoon.
We also felt secure there with the alarmed home and the guarded gate. We really felt at home here, the costa rican people were very generous and friendly. Avispa tours was the group we used to go zip lining, horseback riding, mud bathing and so much more. The tour group was found by the owner and David at rentals. We had such a good time on the tours, eating at resturants, going to Playa Coco, the list can go on. I would definately recommend this place to anyone. Pura Vida!!!!
