We reside in a unique neighborhood in San Rafael, CA that is near enough to the bay of San Pablo for morning walks. You can also see the boat masts from the living room window as you sit back and enjoy the bay view. Our quiet, scenic neighborhood offers an opportunity to relax and kick back after a day of visiting the city of San Francisco or the nearby wine country. We are also close to Sausalito and the Marina Green where the America's Cup is happening this summer!

Our close proximity to the town of San Rafael(3 miles) is also easy for the visitor to get a good meal, attend an amazing concert or view first run movies.

County details: Beautiful Marin County is home to some of the most amazing fresh fruit and vegetables available. There are weekly farmer's markets and in the summer, on Thursday nights, the main street of San Rafael hosts a farmer's market as well as entertainment. The world famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright built his final building in San Rafael. It is home to the county offices. We also have a famous mission that is part of the California Missions Trail which reflects early California history.

We are also near Marin General Hospital as well as Dominican College for those who might have short term jobs at those places as well as Autodesk and Fair Issac.

Weather: The weather in San Rafael is mostly temperate year round except for the winter rains which help our ground water supply. The surrounding hillsides reflect the winter moisture in the Spring when they are covered in lupines as well as the well known mustard flowers. Our rental is so close to the Bay that we get the cool breezes in the summer and more temperate weather in the winter.

Scenery: Because we are located on the Bay of San Pablo, there are times you can see art students with their easels up and painting the incredible views of the bay very near our home. Mount Tam can also be viewed from outside the guest suite.

About paul and elise samuelson

We came up to Marin County in 1991 and fell in love with its beauty. Both of us have been in the film and television industry and

where Paul decided to retire, Elise continued to travel to Los Angeles and work on different film and television projects. We both are semi retired now and love to travel as well as welcome those to our lovely area that are fellow travelers.

This area of our rental is truly unique. It is on the Bay side of a quaint area called 'Chicken Point' - perhaps because there might have been people raising chickens - which is a common happening here!- It is not far from central San Rafael and yet it feels rural enough to enjoy walks up in the hills and around the Bay.

What makes this apartment unique

The style of our rental is a bit of New England. We have temperate weather due to the proximity of the Bay and since we are near a little beach, it is easy to put out a kayak or stand up paddle board.

A wonderful refuge in Marin County

My wife and I are repeat guests at Paul and Elise's wonderful refuge in Marin County. They have created a welcoming, comfortable and convenient destination from which we have explored San Francisco, Muir Woods, Pt. Reyes and the Wine Country. The very private and clean guest suite is stocked with literature about the Bay Area as well as some DVD's for the occasional rainy afternoon. With Paul and Elise's friendly advice we have discovered some great local restaurants and museums that we may not have found out about had we not inquired. Comfy, cozy, just like home

As I write this review I am staying in another vacation rental, which pales by comparison. The rental suite was tastefully decorated (spa-like), and impecably clean (the owner cleans it herself to make sure it's done to her high standard). The kitchen has all the gadgets so that you can cook if you need or want to, but there's pleanty of restaurants in San Rafael if not. I also want to make special note that the owners went out of thier way to help us as we navigated our way through bringing home our newly adopted baby girl. It was as if we had our own family greeting us from the hospital and it will forever be part of my daughters birthstory. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

Perfect location for a quiet getaway.

We stayed with Elise and Paul in mid-May and found their charming guest suite to be a great location for a quiet week away from home. It was ideally located ... just far enough away from San Francisco to be away from traffic and just close enough to be convenient to the city by ferry. We also found trips to Napa and the wine country to be a snap to get to from San Raphel. All-in-all we had a delightful week and plan on doing it again in the future.

Adorable Rental in Marin

THis is our third time visiting at Elise and Paul's charming little apartment in San Rafael. The pictures do not do it justice. It is so homey and warm and well appointed. Elise and Paul are wonderful hosts and are a wealth of information. I love the fountain and vines right outside the bedroom window. The bed is so comfortable and it's incredibly quiet at night. I wish that I slept as well at home! The little kitchen has everything you could possibly need and then some. I love the area with the boats and little beach nearby. It's a great area to take a walk. Andy's Market nearby has wonderful food to take out as well as a nice wine selection to choose from. This is truly a great place to stay if you are taking a trip up to Marin. Elise and Paul have books and magazines so you can check out all that is available to you in Marin and Napa and Sonoma. The other thing is it is immaculate! Every time we have come here, it seems like it's brand new! We will definitely come back again!!!

Wow! We loved this apartment. It is beautifully appointed and in a very special place. The walking nearby is great, Andy's is addictive and San Raphael is a hidden treasure!. Paul and Elise are delightful hosts. We would definitely recommend - we want to come back and enjoy the summer one day :)
