Beautiful home, needs some finishing touches
My family and I stayed in your home over the weekend when my sister graduated from Pepperdine. The location was perfect, and the home was beautiful. We loved having wi fi, access to laundry, and the beautiful drive up to the house—it reminded us of our trip to the souther coast of Spain.
However, a little bit of tlc would go a long way! My husband and I were in the master suite with our son. Our towels were frayed on the edges with some holes in them. The bed linens were very worn. The attic access door was coming loose from the wall and seemed like it would fall any minute! The balcony off the master suite is beautiful and the view can't be beat. However, the table top is missing, there is just a metal frame of the table.
The house keepers were not very thorough—we had an empty roll of toilet paper on of holder (with extras underneath the sink) and bird droppings on the outdoor patio furniture.
The kitchen was pretty well stocked in terms of dishes, but the dishwasher didn't wash things very well (and we followed directions carefully) so we washed quite a bit by hand. The corner cupboard door was also near to falling off.
The property description mentioned that the house had a high chair, booster chair, and crib for small children. These were stored in the garage and were not very clean. I did not feel comfortable having my 2 year old use these, and we had him balance on the bench at the dining table.
The garage doors need updating—because they require so much clearance to open it really limited parking at the house. The car my parents rented did not fit into the garage with such a small door opening.
We really did like the house, but there were some things that needed some attention! Hope this feedback is helpful.
Owner's Response: I just posted a message that the Father of the previous reviewer sent to me by email regarding his families stay. Sorry for any discomfort this family may have had at our Malibu home. We strive for perfection, but missed the mark this time. I told the(Father)guest that I had a Spring Fix-the-Property time scheduled just before his family arrived, but had to reschedule it as my Mother passed away at the same time and I just couldn't manage it. The week before the guests arrived, we had super strong winds. The table on the upper deck blew over and the glass broke .I didn't have time to get it replaced (it is replaced now). I'm pretty sure I told one of the guests about it, but maybe it slipped my mind as I was dealing with my Mother's Memorial.
We have boatloads of towels and sheets at the home. Maybe some old ones snuck their way back into the house! The attic door was opened by a prior guest and just need to be shut. I had a handyman look into it and he said that is was not falling off.
Thank goodness there were rolls of toilet paper under the sink! It would not have been pleasant to be stuck in the upstairs bathroom without any paper! Sorry about the bird droppings, but we don't have a cleaning crew coming everyday. Those birds just don't have any manners! We do, however, have plenty of paper towels and cleaning rags to help with the clean up.
The dishwasher is fairly new, so I wonder what is going on with it? With so many guests using it, maybe it has some food or something stuck in it. I will find out and if need be, I will replace it. Sometimes children like to hang and swing on the cabinet doors. A handyman came and fixed all cabinet doors and hinges.
The cleaning crew assures me that they sanitize the baby items after families with children leave. These items cannot be stored in the home as they would be in the way. I will put a plastic cover or a sheet over them to keep any dirt off.
There is nothing we can do about garage doors short of tearing the house down and rebuilding. I did look into new garage doors that roll up, but the ventilation ducks are on the ceiling of the garage and roll up doors are not an option. We must stick to doors that swing out. My Econoline Van fits in the garage. Guests are always welcome to park 2 vehicles on the driveway.
I hope this sheds some light on the situation. I always want our guests to be comfortable and happy! Tricia
