We are in a National Historical area, Kahalu'u, in the lower Kula Zone, within 250 ft. elevation. Traditionally, coincides with the highest density of residential, ceremonial and burial features in the ahupua'a. Coastal Kahalu'u are attributed to the presence of various ruling Chiefs. Legendary associations with Lono-i-ka-makahiki, Kalani'opu'u, the ruling chief. Ke'eaumoku, father of Ka'ahumanu and uncle of Kamehameha I, was awared Kahalu'u and Keauhou after Kamehameha unified the Hawaiian Islands. Kuakini was born in Kahalu'u, as were Miriam Kekauluohi, and Kamehameha III. From 1812-1813 Kamehameha I, Ka'ahumanu and Keouolani lived at Kahalu'u. All 5,443 acres of Kahalu'u were granted to Victoria Kamamalu during the Great Mahele in the mid-1800. Elite residence at the coast in Kahalu'u were their favorite place to live, because of the Beauty, and the use of the coastal enviroment of marine resources procurement activities, clustered permanent habitation and communal structures. So, come and enjoy where the earliest ruling chiefs called home. Their love for Sunny , dry weather, a calm ocean for fishing, rolling waves for Surfing, and productive upland gardens, enumerated as the reasons the area was an especially favored place for the ruling chiefs.
