Cozy, charming and a great location!
My husband and I chose Paris to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We wanted a vacation rental rather than a hotel, so that we could spread out and experience life as "residents" rather than as hotel guests. Marc's apartment charmed us both when we saw the pictures and the location.
The location is great for getting around Paris--close to everything, with a metro stop just a couple blocks away. We loved walking to the Seine, Jardin des Plantes and Luxumbourg Gardens, as well as to Notre Dame, and the St. Germain district.
Of course, Rue Mouffetard is wonderful with all its markets, chocolate shops, bistros and patisseries. It was great to just step outside and buy our breakfast each morning, or pick up a few grocery items just across the street. The street is lively at night with all the students from the Sorbonne and the University of Paris, and we enjoyed the people-watching opportunities from the nearby bistros.
The apartment itself is small and cozy--just right for a couple. It has all the amenities you need: espresso machine, toaster, stovetop, refrigerator, dishwasher, this really cool microwave/convection oven/grill combination, hairdryer, and a modernized bathroom with a towel warmer. The internet connection was reliable and fast, and the tv and DVD player were new and easy to use. I loved the exposed stone wall in the main room and the huge window out to the lovely courtyard. Even though the street is full of activity, the apartment is always quiet and peaceful. And it was nice to NOT have to climb any stairs to get to it at the end of the day! :)
There is plenty of storage space for clothing and bathroom items, although the two main armoires were in separate rooms, so you have to walk back and forth to get dressed. As others have mentioned, the bed is squeezed right into a small cubby-space, so you have to climb out the end, but that didn't bother us. It was comfortable and we're used to a double bed, so it didn't seem too small. My only recommendation to Marc is to get a full-length mirror for the bedroom door.
Marc is a charming host who goes out of his way to help. He was there to greet us when we arrived and give us a rundown of the apartment and we had his number in case we needed anything during our stay. He met us faithfully on our departure day to return our deposit. He even walked us all the way to the RER station (15 minute walk) to help us with our luggage. We had a lovely stay and now a new friend, too!
