Mr. Donner was from downstate Michigan, He took an early retirement from Ford. He bought a marina on Big Manistique. He wanted to bring people he knew up to Big Manistique Lake. The parents of the 5 brothers who now own the cottage were friends of Mr. Donner and purchased this cottage on Donner Road. The original cottage was torn down and replaced with the current cottage about 20 years ago.
