New for 2012! – Rustic elegance with stunning, panoramic views of Yellowstone National Park on the banks of the Yellowstone River. We offer a unique, creative, upscale experience in a premier location for a truly memorable vacation.

This property's breathtaking scenery of Yellowstone National Park called for a glorious space, so we built it...

As artists, we wanted to create something different, tasteful and creative, where our guests could experience the grand views of Yellowstone in a unique way, wrapped in luxury and rustic elegance. High ceilings, huge windows, heavenly beds with down comforters, a gourment kitchen with high end appliances, leather furniture, antiques, original art, creative details....We wanted it all.

We appreciate beauty in nature, architecture, and art and feel more people should have that opportunity. So now, you can experience Yellowstone, nature and wildlife, along with original fine art, in a finely designed, deluxe, comfortable and relaxing space. Designing the building in harmony with nature, we oriented it to the south, to take in loads of sunshine and even provide solar hot water for you too!

Our location is phenomenal - dramatic yet convenient. We are directly on the banks of the Yellowstone River with glorious, panoramic views overlooking Yellowstone National Park and Electric Peak (one of the highest peaks in Yellowstone). Watch sunrise on Electric Peak, wildlife roam through Yellowstone and sunset colors reflect on the Yellowstone River...all right out the windows!

Sitting at the far edge of Gardiner (a very small town), we’re close enough to walk (or ride one of our cruiser bikes! which are provided) to all the amenities...restaurants, groceries, shops, white water rafting, ice cream, pizza, etc.

The convenience of our property will make your vacation feel simplified and relaxed. By road, the Roosevelt Arch - the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park - is just a mile away. The Boiling River is just 2 miles away, where you can soak in the hot springs of Yellowstone. If you'd rather just watch Yellowstone from the deck or out the windows, we offer books, literature, chess, board games and puzzles. For the more adventurous in the family, they can walk up to one of the white water rafting companies in town, where they'll suit you up for a ride down the river - and they can wave to the other family members who are reading on the deck!

We have been enjoying our home, studios and gallery for a couple years now. Many people have come into our Elk River Art Studio & Gallery and commented on what a magnificent space it is and how they would love to sit, with the art around them, and take in those views for a while themselves. We’ve always felt that we have been extremely lucky and that more people should have the opportunity to experience living close to nature as well as with original fine art. It's good for the soul. So it gave us an idea….

Beginning with the 2012 summer season, we’re renovating our Gallery and Studio spaces to accommodate overnight guests in this luxurious, creative setting.

We have found a historic, antique Yellowstone National Park luggage cart and we’re restoring it to become your dining table, (seats 12) complete with antique pack saddles with custom made pendants that will be your dining chandelier.

Your gourmet kitchen has soapstone countertops, antique hutches, island seating and high end appliances, including a Subzero refrigerator, six burner gas stove and dishwasher drawers. Fully stocked with pots, pans, glasses, dishes, etc, all you’ll need to bring is the food. (OR, the refrigerator can be stocked in advance, or catering arranged, with a bit of prior notice.)

If you'd prefer some outdoor cooking, the gas grill on the deck overlooks Yellowstone National Park and the Yellowstone River. You can fish in the river and grill them on the deck!

Each bedroom (there are 5 total - 4 attached and one unattached) has luxury linens with down comforters and down pillows and each has a private bath. In the Studio suite, this sky lit bedroom has a king bed - with an easel and art supplies ready – in case the spirit moves you.

In your Gallery living room, we offer a ‘drawing corner’ to let your creativity abound. Or use the game table for family board games and puzzles (supplied).

For a luxury camping experience (commonly termed “glamping” these days), we’re creating an oasis by the river - included in your rental. Made from river rock and complete with a woodstove, roof and screening. It’s the perfect way to experience sleeping close to nature, hearing the sounds of the river, and watching the stars in the “big sky”, all while in a cozy bed with lamps and books on your bedside. The space can be used as a quiet ‘out post’ for the more adventurous couple or as a unique family camping experience. It’s complete with one luxury queen and 2 twin beds (bunks).

Let your creativity spark, let nature soak in, surround yourself with beauty and art, experience a new adventure, allow yourself the time and space to relax. Yellowstone National Park is an amazing place and your memories will last a lifetime – so we want to make it a truly unique experience for you. The way life in the Rocky Mountains should be – creative, artistic rustic elegance, close to, and in harmony with nature.

We're excited to share our spectacular mountain home with you. There's A LOT to experience in Yellowstone (we certainly love it!) and we'd be happy to point you in the right direction to help make it a vacation of a lifetime for you.

Your hosts,

Shirl & John

Beautiful lodge for Yellowstone family vacations

5 of 5
Submitted: October 28, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
If you want a memorable and special place to stay for your Yellowstone vacation, look no farther! It’s difficult to describe how magnificent and wonderful this lodge is, lovingly and tastefully designed and creatively built by a couple of artists who realized the full potential of a site that is perched directly above the Yellowstone River. A few of the things that we loved about the lodge: the warm plank wood floors and large old log beams (recovered and reused from old barns), high ceilings, abundance of windows, solid wood vintage doors, hand crafted and sculpted chandeliers, light fixtures, and furniture. Each bathroom is a unique work of art, and the rooms are adorned with Shirl’s lovely paintings and John’s bronze sculptures. The kitchen had plenty of seating for our entire family reunion; enjoy cooking on the beautiful, massive gas stove, or grill on the large deck overlooking the river.

At night, we enjoyed sitting on the deck and taking in the superb views of the river below and Electric Peak above, watching all the rafters float by during the day, and stargazing at night, especially since we were lucky enough to vacation during the Perseid meteor shower. Anglers will be delighted by the excellent trout fishing available right on the banks of the property (with access to the entire bank of the river), where we caught native cutthroat, rainbows, and whitefish.

The lodge is conveniently located on the edge of the frontier town of Gardiner, an easy walk to all the local restaurants and rafting companies. You can also hop on the cruiser bikes that the owners make available for touring around town (just watch out for the elk that tend to wander through town). The accommodations are everything one would expect in a luxury vacation lodge, including comfortable beds, all the cooking and dishware a large family needs, plenty of towels, etc.

On our trip, Mom and Dad, who were celebrating their 50th anniversary, enjoyed sleeping in the screened-in “River House”, perched right on the river (below the main lodge), though you may decide to let the kids have an adventure and sleep there while the adults enjoy a bit of peace and quiet in the lodge above.

Of course, Gardiner is the gateway to the north side of Yellowstone Park, just minutes away from the Roosevelt arch, and about a half-hour away from the Lamar Valley, which we visited frequently to watch “The Druid” wolf pack in action.

We found this lodge to be perfect for our family reunion!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to give us such a glowing review - we SO appreciate it!

It's wonderful to hear when guests have such a fantastic family celebration at our lodge.... Spending a 50th anniversary in our River Bed is definitely a highlight for us! We're glad you all enjoyed the lodge's design, comfortable beds, amazing Yellowstone views and cruiser bikes too - with great fishing and stargazing as well.

That's why we do what we do - happy Yellowstone memories. You made our day. Hope to see you all again soon!
