Do you want to have your morning coffee and watch the sun come up while sitting on the front porch listening to the birds sing; away from the noises of city life, traffic and stress? Then this is the place for you. Our Wakulla Springs Retreat is located on 5 secluded acres of hardwood trees off the beaten track but close to the Tallahassee-St. Marks Historic Railroad State Trail (15 miles of a beautiful paved bicycle corridor), Wakulla Springs State Park, the St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge, the Apalachicola National Forest, the San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park in the town of St. Marks at the confluence of the beautiful St. Marks and Wakulla rivers, the Felburn Foundation Playground with covered picnic tables and a fabulous array of playground equipment.

There are several excellent sea food restaurants close by so you don’t have to spend your time cooking. Only 3 miles from the Retreat is Savannah’s.(home of the famous breakfast and a great country buffet at lunch and dinner). We have plenty of room for boaters to bring their boats to the Retreat. There are several public and private boat ramps within 15 minutes of the Retreat, giving you access to the Gulf of Mexico and local rivers. Downtown Tallahassee and Florida State University are only 15 miles from the Retreat and Wakulla Springs State Park (home of one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world) is only 6 miles from the Retreat. If the Wakulla Springs Retreat is booked during the dates you want it, please see our sister site, St. Marks Retreat, VRBO site #63806, on the St. Marks River.

I love this place! I was not expecting such a great cottage. In the middle of the woods and well worth it. You need to relax, it’s here, you need to bird watch, it’s here, need to spend time with family, it’s here. The only thing we had to get for the cottage was groceries, they had everything else. Fully furnish and cleaners, laundry detergent etc, all was included. I will definitely use this property again when visiting Tallahassee. Only 25 – 30 min. out of the city. We really enjoyed ourselves at this location. This place made my daughters graduation even more special.

Owner's Response: We very much appreciate the kind words from our guest. She. and one other guest, are the only people who washed all of the sheets and towels, without any obligation to do so. It was quite a treat to find the cottage in such a beautiful condition. It is guests like this that make renting the Wakulla Springs Retreat a true joy.

We had a lovely 5 days at the cabin. We were extremely comfortable as a family of 4 adults in this space, and found the cabin's amenities to be as described. The deck and porch were delightful and the neighborhood peaceful with excellent bird and local wildlife. the cleanliness and appearance of the cabin exceeded our expectations with all the homey touches & educational materials. We drove 30' to find fine dining, but enjoyed cooking at grilling at home. The nearby attractions satisfied our wildlife viewing cravings with extensive wildlife viewing. The river tour at the Wakulla Springs was awesome - alligators/birds/manatees/turtles were in abundance. We visited St. Marks wildlife refuge multiple times & were very pleased with our experience. The aquarium at Panacea and the McClay gardens are must see attractions as well. We also had the opportunity to see the owner's Cavalier puppies. What more could an animal loving family desire?

A Delightful Getaway Cabin

What a treat for a peaceful stay in the country! The front porch was my favorite place, with rocking chairs for passing the days, and a collection of butterfly plants all around the porch. The butterflies and skippers entertained me from sun up to sun down. There is enough of a space in the middle of the wooded grounds to bathe the yard in moonlight by night. If you get up at night and step out on the deck, the stars are bright and visible enough to see constellations. After the neighbors go to work, the area is quiet except for the hum of the insects and calls of birds, all day long. This is an excellent place for older people and handicapped, with only four steps in front and an accessible back door via the one step deck. There is a choice of shower or bathtub. The rooms are quite comfortable, and Carolyn is a whiz at interior makeovers. If it were not for my pesky JOB, I could have stayed for a month! My dog enjoyed the freedom of a fenced back yard, not usually available to her at most vacation rentals. Privacy, peace and nature, best sums up this vacation opportunity !!

Secluded Weekend in Wakulla

We stayed there recently and were very pleased. The home is well-kept and has all the amenities necessary for a great weekend with friends. It is private and secluded yet close to gas stations, stores and a few restaurants. The owners were easy to reach and very accomodating. It is also pet-friendly which is a requirement for all properties in my mind. It comfortably sleeps 5 people (six if you count the couch) with a queen bed in one room, a double in another and a twin in the other bedroom. It is a great property for anyone looking for a quiet getaway in North Central Florida. If I had to cite one downside, it would be the mile-long pot-hole filled sandy road one must travel to reach the property. But, in order to reach such a secluded, serene place, one must sometimes go off the beaten path.

I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone looking for accomodations in this part of Florida.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review, and we hope you all will visit us again soon. The road coming into the property is limestone based and quite hard. There are no soft spots or mud holes. It is maintained regularly, but after a hard rain, it is bumpy until the next scheduled maintanance. Also, it can be dusty after a prolonged period drought.

The Retreat is definately off the beaten path, but very quiet and peaceful.

Great cottage in the middle of the woods!

We are a small family from the Netherlands with a baby boy and simply loved staying in this cottage, surrounded by trees but still close to all the important sighseeing options in the neighbourhood. Wakulla Springs wasn't even a 15 minute drive and simply gorgeous and you can do great forest walks just as nearby. The beach is also not far away. How often do you get such a great combination.
Above all, the cottage was recently redone so everything was in good shape, clean and neat and above all very cosy. We loved sitting on the porch and our baby boy felt immediately at ease because of the quietness and cosiness.

Owner's Response: Floyd and I enjoyed so much having you stay with us at our Retreat. We are now in the process of adding a large deck in the back yard. It will be a great place to gather outside. This spring the plants should bring butterflies and birds to the backyard. Thanks for the wonderful care you took of our cottage. We would love to see you again.

Great Property!

My family and I stayed at this property during a preview weekend at Florida State. The location is very secluded and private while at the same time being close to a grocery store, gas stations and restaurants. We drove back and forth to Tallahassee several times over the weekend and loved the fact that we were relatively close without having to stay in town.

Our biggest regret is that we only had a couple of days to enjoy the place. The owners were extremely accomodating both before and during our visit. With one child at FSU and another potentially going in the fall we will certainly be making plans to return to this charming retreat.
