Bigfork Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description
HIgh quality 2 story homestead farmhouse, 4 Bedrooms, 2 full Baths, sleeps 10.

Once the center of a homestead farm, this story and a half home is beautifully and solidly built. The rich farm ground in the valley produces wheat and barley, potatoes, orchards of cherries, apples and more. A watchful eye at dusk and dawn will often see whitetail deer passing through our property seeking either daytime shelter in the nearby timber or night time grazing out in the open fields. Bald eagles ply the skies overhead. The area has abundant wildlife, including Rocky Mountain Elk, mule deer, black bear and grizzly, antelope and much more. The National Bison Range nearby provides spectacular opportunities to view this awesome creature. Come see for yourself!

Our farm house was built in the early 1900's on a 160 acre homestead created in 1895 under the direction of U.S. president, Grover Cleveland (a framed copy of the document is displayed in the home). Though most of the acreage was sold off over the years, it has been our home for 29 years, having raised our three children here (our son Brook was born in this house). Today, we are back and forth from Mexico where we do construction work as volunteers, staying in a 5th wheel trailer on our property while here in Montana.

In the heart of 'Big Sky Country', from our farmhouse take in the vista of the Whitefish Mountains and Glacier National Park to the north, the Salish Mountains to the west. South you will see the Mission Range in the land the Flathead Indian Reservation, home to the Bitterroot Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d'Oreilles tribes. Southeast, the Swan Valley, nestled between the Mission and Swan mountain ranges, the latter continuing west and north of your new home away. Jewel Basin Hiking Wilderness Hiking area, sprinkled with high peak and alpine lakes, is your view looking due east from your living room window.

Teri and I moved into this house in 1983 and purchased it a year later. Our two oldest kids, Laramie, our daughter, was just a toddler, and our oldest boy, Cheyenne was just a newborn. Six years later, our third and last child, our son Brook, was born in this house.

We have operated our mobile family business from this location, traveling to area car dealerships installing pinstripes, graphics and lite accessories, as well as making and installing signs. For the last six years, we have been working as volunteers in construction in Mexico.

Dan and Teri Harding purchased this farmhouse in 1984

Why did we buy this home? We rented it for the first year and loved the location so much we bought it the following year. Our shopping area is primarily in Kalispell, which is easily accessible, yet we could enjoy raising our family in the rural countryside outside the village of Bigfork.

The house was beautiful and in the perfect location! everything was clean and tidy when we arrived and Dan was flexible with our check in time, which made everything a lot easier for us. The house is absolutely beautiful and there is a lot of space. I rented the house for my bridesmaids and I to spend the few days before my wedding in Bigfork, and it was perfect. we almost all had our own rooms! So glad we chose this house!

Our party chose this property for a type of family reunion. The venue was the perfect place as it feels so much like home. It was immaculately kept and had ample space both inside and outside for all of our activities. We were able to make dinner together in the full kitchen which was very convenient. The house was also well located near Bigfork village with it's many attractions, Flathead lake, grocery store and many wonderful restaurants (we chose Echo Lake Cafe for breakfast). All and all we were exceptionally pleased with the cozy home atmosphere and the way our kind hosts cared for any of our needs. We hope to stay again as soon as possible!

Thank you Hardings for a very enjoyable visit. The house was very comfortable and accommodating for our extended family. We enjoyed hanging out in the yard and using the fire pit. Then of course, the hot tub was very popular and relaxing after a hard day of play! Thank you

Very very disappointing

House was a huge disappointment. It only has a window unit upstairs no a/c downstairs. you only get a few channels on tv since there is only an antenna. House was not clean, kitchen too dirty to cook. Grill outside was nasty, fire pit a joke and sprinklers run constantly so you cant go outside and sit. This is not a rental this is their home. They have a camper set up right beside house the entire time you are there. No privacy. Hot tub is on a timer so you cant use it...I had turned fridge up since it wasnt keeping any of our drinks cold and someone came in while we were out sight seeing and turned fridge back down...This was for my parents 50th anniversary and was nothing short of disappointing. I have rented vacation homes before and they were truly rentals not someone's full time home...
Owner's Response: As is true with some books, a little truth and generous fiction makes for fascinating reading. We are saddened this family's 50th anniversary was less than expected. The first night of their visit, I was awakened at 12:30 am by a frantic phone call from our guests. The older gentleman had a medical emergency and she said a hospital helicopter was about to land. I assured her I would dress quickly and go straight to the E.R. Yet he arrived by ground ambulance, not by air, seemed to be doing well, and was released. The next morning, with scant sleep, we made the twenty minute drive to check on them. No discontentment was expressed about the home. Additionally, we left phone messages asking if they needed anything. Though preoccupied with my dying father in law (he did pass away late in their visit) we endeavored to keep in touch. Some details:
Indeed, I accidentally left the backyard sprinkler (that "runs constantly") on a 60 minute timer in the evening. It can be turned off at the hose bib.
The trailer is 60 feet from the house and though it sometimes has the caretaker or owner in it, there was no one in it throughout their stay.
There are 42 channels on the TV.
Cleanliness- my wife is quite fastidious and the three professional housekeepers she uses were chosen for the same reason.
Hot tub- it is not on a timer, rather it broke during their visit. The circuit board was repaired the day after we found out! Had they only called us, it could have been fixed on day two of their visit instead of them stewing over it for ten.
The refrigerator- truly entertaining. We never, never enter the house without guest permission. Even the hot tub repair on the second floor deck was reached by ladder instead of going through the home out of respect for the next guests.
"This is their home..."- this clever conclusion is accurate. As noted in the listing, we moved onto this gentle hill thirty years ago, our youngest son was even born in the home. Many vacation homes are lived in by their owners off-season. In our case, about two months out of the past eighteen.
Heat- record breaking temperatures throughout the NW strained air conditioners everywhere. The home has the largest window mount unit Costco sells and is generally quite adequate.
In summary, we are very sad our guests never communicated when some of these issues arose. While we obviously cannot fix a heat wave, or some of their imaginings, we would have gladly accommodated them in any fashion we could.

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at the Farmhouse. It accommodated 2 families with no problem. Dan and Teri were very eager to make our stay comfortable in every way. The description of the home was very accurate regarding every aspect. The Farmhouse and property was clean. We were in Bigfork for a family reunion and on Saturday evening all the family came over to the farmhouse where we enjoyed the backyard with the fire pit where we roasted marshmallows. Eating and cooking utensils were provided as well as cleaning supplies including laundry detergent! Thank you Dan and Teri for an enjoyable stay.

Thank you, we enjoyed our time here. We found your home comfortable and our time here serene and peaceful. The swing was awesome and the cats were sweet. We will definitely be coming back to Flathead Lake! And Rosh and Z (outside farm cats) made it feel like home.
