3 of us had a lovely week at Oughterson Barn. Its next door to the old Plantation house that Peter [ex UK] lives in. He was so helpful buying in food for our arrival, treating us to dinner on our first night, inviting us to a quiz night in Bridgetown and lending us snorkling bits [to swim with the turtles and see the reef fishes] etc.
The pool is lovely: you can sit by it and watch tiny hummingbirds going for flower to flower. Cooking facilities and WiFi are good too.
We used the local buses to travel everywhere and would really recommend them [80p that's 2 Barbados Dollar for any journey] Timetables on the website of ask the locals who work for Peter, but get the College Savannah or Society buses to and from Bridgetown. The Oistins-GA airport-Society bus is very useful too and runs closeby. The Barn is located about 2-3 miles from beaches, so in the heat its too far to walk, which limits you a bit. Try Carlsle Bay near Bridgetown, Sandy lane, Miami Beach near Oistins, Bath Beach in Consett Bay on west coast - all by bus!!!
The weather can change quickly - we had a few short sharp showers- but you can see the clouds coming in anyway.
Always felt safe travelling around - there are so many beaches and site to visit.
Can really recommend Peters 3 villas. Not so keen on all the dogs he has though, as not really dog lovers! JS

MY FAMILY AND I HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM ONE OF THE BEST HOLIDAYS WE HAVE HAD TOGETHER.

THIS IS DUE IN NO SMALL PART TO PETER, YOUR HOST AT OUGHTERSON PLANTATION VILLAS, WHO HAS PERFECTLY BALANCED A WELCOMING, GENEROUS AND ATTENTIVE NATURE WITHOUT BEING INTRUSIVE. HE IS WITHOUT QUESTION, THE MOST INVITING HOST WE HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF STAYING WITH. THERE ARE JUST TWO OTHER VILLAS (YET ALL THREE ARE INCOMPARABLE) AT OUGHTERSON, AND THE FEELING OF STAYING IN A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT WITH A TINY COMMUNITY OF OTHERS WITH SAME MIND AND SPIRIT, NEVER FEELS CROWDED AND OVERRUN LIKE OTHER VACATION SPOTS CAN. IT FEELS EXACTLY AS THOUGH YOU ARE STAYING WITH FRIENDS..AND AS IT TURNS OUT YOU ARE.

OUGHTERSON IS UNIQUE AND SPECIAL. IT IS LOCATED ON THE EASTERN PART OF BARBADOS IN ST. PHILIP, ONE OF THE MOST UNSPOILT AREAS LEFT ON THE ISLAND. THE PROPERTY IS QUITE SIMPLY, STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND A DESTINATION IN ITSELF. I CAN SAY WITH COMPLETE CONFIDENCE THAT NO MATTER WHERE IN THE WORLD YOU TRAVEL, YOU WILL NEVER FIND ANOTHER LOCATION LIKE THIS ONE.

WHEN ONE TRAVELS TO PARADISE, EXPLORATION IS NOT ONLY AN OPTION BUT TO ME, A GIVEN. BUT WHAT BETTER COMPLIMENT CAN ONE GIVE THAN TO SAY THAT THERE WERE TIMES WHEN WE SIMPLY DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE. WE HAVE FOUND AN IDYLLIC PARADISE IN AN IDYLLIC PARADISE. I AM SURE YOU WILL FEEL THE SAME.

AT OUGHTERSON, YOU WILL NOT FIND A RUN OF THE MILL HOTEL, WITH A DISENCHANTED PERSON WORKING A GENERIC FRONT DESK THAT COULD BE ANYWHERE. YOU WILL FIND PEACE AND QUIET, FRIENDSHIP AND THAT EVER IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING A 'ROOM NUMBER' OR AN INDIVIDUAL. ALL THIS IN A SPOT THAT FEELS A MILLION MILES AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD.

We cannot compliment Peter enough on his beautiful place. Our little hideaway was beach house meets garden oasis with a good dollop of thoughtful layout and design detail thrown in for good measure.

Highlights were:

The views of the sea, the sound of the wind and the stars at night.

The peace and quiet and the feeling that you were the only people in the whole world staying there

Peter's kindness, generosity and hospitality;

The lovely cool rock pool with children's paddle pool;

The attention to detail in the individual design of each of the 3 accommodations available

the diverse wildlife - fireflies glowing at night, birds, monkeys, lizards

the beds - not too hard not too soft, just right

The extras - a bonfire one evening, a welcome dinner under the vine covered gazebo lit with fairy lights, a night the night bbq down at a beautiful windswept beach with Peter and the other guests staying at Oughtersons, the pooches for the children to play with, jamming sessions in the main house, the use of a guitar to play all the old classics, the offer to pick up some groceries before we arrived, the hammocks and vine covered Pilates area. The list goes on.............

We also enjoyed the proximity to Crane and Foul beaches.

We cannot recommend this property enough and would definitely send our family and friends.

We would love to return, and as we drove off (btw, you'll need a car), and before we'd even gone out the drive and onto the road, the children said "When are we coming back ?" ...........

Go and stay. You'll be so glad you did :-)
