About The Owner

I am a Barcelona local who loves her city and is happy to share any recommendations and experiences that will help you enjoy Barcelona from local point of view, not intoxicated by tourists.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 2000
Why The Owner chose Ciutat Vella

Is a beautiful lively area in the center of the city. You will have a vintage experience, living in an apartment with curiosities and antique building and deco. Where ladies in the 19th century tried out their outfits, since it was once used as a tailor for the Opera House.

What makes this apartment unique

Enjoy the vibrant center of Barcelona and shopping and the Gotic quarter and the Cathedral are just around the cornder. Super central location, after long hours of walking, you enjoy a quick rest & stop at your apartment, for a quick break, for a snack and then you can go back to your tourist race. Grocery shopping in the Boqueria market and close by supermarkets, you can store some food at home and avoid spending extra money on overpriced touristic food.

A Good Place to Stay

The apartment is pristine and clean but has a lived in feel to it - that was a good quality as, even though this was our first time in Barcelona, it felt like arriving home rather than to a sterile and impersonal place. The apartment is comfortable; it is also light as it has plenty of windows - looking towards gardens on one side and engaging street life on the other. There were four of us, using all three bedrooms, and the space in the apartment was such that there was no feeling of living on top of each other. We chose to eat in quite a lot because there was a good kitchen and a lovely space to eat in the drawing/dining room; also there is a beautiful market so near by that eating delicious food at home while relaxing and talking felt preferable to most restaurants.
We were met and greeted by Elisenda who was charming and helpful with advice and any questions we had.
I would recommend this apartment to anyone staying in Barcelona. It is located so centrally that a visitor can walk and explore without difficuly.
We have very happy memories of Barcelona and the apartment and hope to return soon.

Hi, stayed here for a long time, it was so perfect, being so central to all amenities inc the Metro subway station right outside.
Perfect for slow mornings with coffee on the balcony looking at the street theater performers & others strolling up La Rambla.

Highly reccomend it

An oasis in the heart of Barcelona

My teenage daughter and I had a fantastic time at this apartment. The location is superb, right on La Ramblas and directly opposite the Opera House and we enjoyed seeing and hearing the street life below from the balcony. The metro stop is minutes away so it was really convenient for travelling around the city. Even better, the Gothic quarter with all the beautiful cobbled streets and amazing historic architecture was right on the doorstep. In fact, we walked or cycled everywhere and got such a feel for the real Barcelona.
The apartment is amazing, kind of vintage chic with lovely antique pieces scattered throughout. I particularly loved the glass doors with the insignia of the Opera House, as it was was originally the workshop of the opera tailor. Two of the bedrooms are huge, the one at the back looks onto a beautiful small park, the other two are situated at the front of the apartment, but they have fitted double glazing on the front windows so there is no disturbance from street noise.
It's a really comfortable space to relax in, the beds are great, there is generous space for clothes and personal belongings, good lighting and the wifi was a very nice touch. It is also well maintained and very clean. So much better value than a hotel! And infinitely more charming!
I felt we got a taste of the real Barcelona staying here. It was fantastic, great value and I have no reservations whatsoever about recommending it highly to others.

Bonita Barcelona!

My family of 4 - 2 parents, girl aged 15 and boy aged 11 - had the good fortune to discover this incredibly charming apartment on the VRBO website while planning our overseas trip from Australia to Europe for the start of January 2013. All our communications via email were dealt with promptly by the very capable and lovely Elisenda. When we discovered that our overnight train from Paris would deliver us earlier than regular check- in Elisenda was very understanding and accommodating.
The apartment is just gorgeous with so much character and charm revealing its history as a tailor's work and showroom . We all fell madly in love with it! How to describe it? I guess I would call it shabby chic Spanish style! Old and quirky, yes but immaculately clean and in a brilliant location. The double glazing in one of the front bedrooms and the living room kept the street noise out, our son had the other front bedroom which doesn't have double glazing so had a bit of street noise but nothing that bothered him it just added to the personality of the location. Everything including the all important heating worked well.
Having the Liceu metro stop so close was very convenient when exploring further afield and being just 'round the corner from the Barri Gotic there was no end of dining options . It was such a great location for just wandering aimlessly and marvelling at the divine architecture and popping in and out of all the great shops! The lower part of the Ramblas can be a little seedy but I felt very comfortable with our location even with children as it's just that little bit further away from some of the less savoury carry on.
Elisenda is a real treasure with lots of helpful advice and information to impart - lots of useful guides, metro maps etc. are in the apartment . She even made coffee for our arrival and insisted on helping us up the stairs with our embarrassingly large amount of luggage!
For a taste of the true Barcelona in a very vibrant spot - this is no suburban hideaway! - I would thoroughly recommend this apartment. Sadly we only had 4 days here but we hope to return for longer in the future! Thanks again Elisenda.

Our Barcelona Home

Our family of four with two grown children spent our holidays in Barcelona in this lovely, spacious, well-appointed apartment on La Rambla. With La Boqueria a block away and a Metro stop across the street, it was easy to stay in the area and enjoy Barcelona close to home or use it as a launching spot for a day of touring. Sometimes it was difficult to leave the apartment, which has a great view overlooking the busy Rambla in front and a lovely park in back. Wandering the streets of Barri Gotic around the cathedral was a favorite thing to do, and there are many restaurants in the area that are worth visiting. Pinotxo in La Boqueria was great, as was a nearby tapas place, Irati. The photos Elisenda provides are very accurate and the property is very clean and well-maintained. She could not have been more helpful and forthcoming with advice for our trip and made herself available to us during our stay. There was noise from the street and from some of the other tenants in the building, but it was not enough of an issue that it would have caused us to choose another location. And the night my son arrived to meet us, tired from his trip, one of the other tenants kindly brought him to our door in the most gracious manner. We felt very safe and at home in this place and were sorry to leave.

The apartment was better than described! Yes,It's noisy on la rambla, but the dual window doors muffle the sound well. It was a convenient location and totally cool to go out on the balcony and watch some of the activities happening on la rambla. The Boqeria was AMAZING! I went there every day to look around, grab some fresh fruit, cheese, eat.. whatever! What a plus that was!
Antonia met us there and there was a wonderful basket of fruit and beverages waiting for us! Such a nice touch!
No kitchen oven but the hotplate was enough to allow me to cook some breakfast meals as well as one dinner meal.
Loved it... Would definitely recommend to newcomers especially to Barcelona! I fell in love with that city!

Dear Elisenda,

So sorry it took me a while to offer feedback from our stay in your apartment. First and foremost, I know I may have asked a thousand questions, but I only ask questions to learn and to find out the best way to navigate the city. Otherwise, I am a perfect house guest! I have to let you know that we all agreed that it was the best vacation that we ever had. For me, I am happy that I was able to give that gift to my 75 year old mother. Although my ears feel like they are going to fall off from her telling the world about our vacation!!!!!! Osvaldo was simply fabulous and we want him to be an adoptive member of our family. He is a good man and an added bonus to your business. I think he deserves a raise. It is not easy to find people to work with/for you who can reflect how you would run the daily operations yourself. We want him to come visit us in the States. Of course I did all of the work (33 pages of email notes with you to be exact) and all of the research and I ended up in the bedroom without a balcony. I get no respect! :) Anyway, I thought the location was simply perfect for us and to get back and forth on the metro. I didn't even mind the street noise, which really is only evident on the weekend. We definitely look forward to coming back so please don't sell! The next time, the only email that I will send will be to ask what dates you have available. I am sure that will make you smile.

Take Care and I look forward to talking to you soon,

Lisa

Barcelona's Perfect Location

Barcelona's Perfect Location

My husband and I, with our daughter and son-in-law, spent a few days at this wonderfully-located apartment. It's on what we would call the third floor with easily-manageable stairs. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, the kitchen has every piece of equipment needed, and there was even an extra eating room off the kitchen. It was so less expensive than if the four of us had rented two rooms at a comparable hotel, and no one would have had a better location than this apartment. A metro stop is "right there," and we used it constantly to tour the rest of the city as well to the train station to attend the Barcelona Formula 1 race we had come to attend. It was so special to have the balcony from which to enjoy La Ramblas and the never-ending entertainment of the people passing by, as well as the outdoor restaurants below us. A beautiful, quiet area is also off the back bedroom. Only two of the rooms are air conditioned, but we found all the rooms to have a comfortable temperature. The only downside for us was that the bathrooms were less than wonderful, very small, and with only one little shower a bit difficult to coordinate with four adults. A bathrub would have been excellent! BUT the place as a whole was very comfortable, and I can't emphacize enough the location. Everything you want is within easy walking distance - including the harbor - or easy "metro-ing" or even bussing or taxi. We used them all. The other big plus of the location is the people in charge. They were helpful to us before we arrived and ontime to meet us with the keys. Thoughtful foods were provided as a welcome, including the all-important coffee in case you hadn't had a chance to make it to the store yet. They also told us where to find things, but we fell in love with the nearby Boqueria market (I spelled it wrong!) for food to cook, morning breakfast cooked on the spot with local menus and ingredients - and daily bread! If you've got a trip to Barcelona in your future, give this place serious consideration. A good bargain and value for the money. Thank you, Elisenda and Osvaldo, for our excellent stay.

Good family location

Perfect for us. We were a family with a baby, a young child and my parents. The owner was very helpful and put a number of very handy baby items in the apartment such as a bath, high chair and crib. The location was very central and although on a lively street the double windows made it okay but ear plugs might be a good idea for some on the weekends. There is a beautiful market just 2 blocks away so we ate breakfast in the apartment, made our lunch to take with us (lots of nice picnic places), had snacks on hand and went out for dinner. We had lots of space and the two larger bedrooms are far apart and private. The only item some may not like, but it didn't bother us, is the old dated furniture and the small bathrooms. The owner is very easy to work with and had some food and water already in the apartment. The Wi fi also works well.

Great location but...

My family and I just stayed there and it was a wonderful location from which to base our operations and touring while in Barcelona. The area is hip, funky, and alive at all hours--so bring your earplugs if you are a light sleeper! The back bedroom is probably the prettiest, but it is also the one that is not air-conditioned, so be prepared. Also, the main bathroom that is featured is COMPLETELY FALSE! It is only a narrow shower, toilet, and sink and the space is very small (the shower curtain sticks to you while you are in the shower and then water gets all over the floor) and its overall appearance is quite dated. It is very cool to have one's own balcony from which to look on over Las Ramblas, I must say, but this apartment needs to be refurbished a bit as the furniture in it is looking rather worn. Again, GREAT location, but just know that all you see advertised isn't quite so.
