This apartment is part of a house that was built during the 16th century, and was adjacent to the home of Sebastián de Benalcázar founder of the city. It was restored in 2002 and the architects made a great job to preserve some elements such as the wall and ceiling paintings of the living room and the porch, the ancient collage in the kitchen and the bedroom which gives to the apartment a special enchanting atmosphere.
The apartment is very well situated as it is 2 blocks from the presidential palace and near the famous colonial churches, plazas and museums of the historical Quito.
The condo has it's safety mesures, as some owners are living in their properties, there is a concierge/guard during weekdays and I have an alarm in my flat as well.
Adding to this, all the modern amenities as cable tv, internet, kitchen, phone, chimney makes this apartment an amazing place to stay for visiting the city and it’s surroundings in the colonial atmosphere of this historical neighbourhood.
I'm French after spending my youth travelling with my parents and living in many countries around the world, I have settled Quito for the past 30 years running a textile company. I love this country as it has so much to offer , not only the andes, the mysterious amazon, the seaside and of course the Galápagos islands, but also a sense of timelessness due maybe to the springlike weather, the local culture so present still, there is much to discover and enjoy.
This colonial property adjacent to the casa de Benalcazar, a cultural center, has been totally renovated in 2002 on the basis of the republican style, keeping some of the frescoes, the 2 patios and I made it a point to restore the painted ceiling of the living room as well as the painted walls of the closed porch and the 2 old ceiling collages of the kitchen and bedroom, giving back this apartment it's liveliness and coziness.
The location is wonderful as it is only a walk away from all the historical points of interest in the colonial town. I bought this property to enjoy some restful week ends or to view frequent traditional processions on special dates. My son and his family has lived in this apartment for over a year and they loved it.
Not only it is such a centrally located flat, being in the midst of a bustling part of the colonial town and at the same time, as soon as you enter the 7 apartment condo, one is charmed by a feeling of serenity . The huge door/windows facing the street are insulated, sound minimizing which provides calm and maintaining warmth despite the high ceilings. The porch facing the principal patio is charming where one can relax, read, write or sleep even as there is a convertible sofa. There are plenty shops and a supermarket a block away, being practical for acquiring anything one might need. IThere are restaurants as well as cafeterias nearby as well, On sundays the colonial zone becomes peatonal.
