Photos and Description of the Brighton vacation cabin rental
3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 8

This incredible log cabin is nestled among the huge pine trees of Brighton, Utah. It is surrounded by by the beautiful Wasatch mountains, which make skiing and snowboarding in the winter extremely amazing. Brighton Ski Resort is 10 minutes walking distance, and Solitude Ski Resort is only a 5 minute drive. The snow up here is the greatest snow on earth! The Nordic Center is a 5 minute walk, and offers snow covered trails for cross country skiing or snow shoeing in winter, or hiking in the summer. Silver Lake is located here at the Nordic center, and offers amazing hiking trails, and great fishing. Trout abound in this beautiful mountain lake. The cabin itself is secluded, and off the main road. It is a total gut and remodel with no expenses spared. All is new inside and out with the exception of the two story fireplace, and the full log walls. This beautiful cabin is full of charm. There is nothing more cozy than sitting in front of the fireplace on a frosty winter day.

Moose and deer are a common sight right outside of the cabin as well as over at Silver Lake.

About Mark Richardson

We bought this old family cabin about three years ago. It was in extreme disrepair. We have completely rebuilt it, keeping the parts that had tons of character like the two story stone fireplace and the whole log walls. We added dormers, a new roof, an entirely new kitchen and bathroom complete with granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and granite tub surround.

We have filled it with all the amenites that anyone would want in a mountain getaway.

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin truly offers the best combination of the rustic beauty of a hand hewn log cabin with all the modern amenities. It was literally torn down to the four log walls and the chimney and rebuilt. In addition to being walking distance to the Brighton chairlifts and Solitude Nordic Center, you can ski back to the cabin if you don't mind taking a brief shortcut out of bounds from Brighton.

Basically a ski-in cabin

This cabin is amazing. Everything about it is perfect for a skier's vacation. Basically everything has already been said in other reviews regarding how perfect this cabin is, so I'll skip to the part nobody has mentioned yet because according to the owners we were the first guests to actually ski from Brighton back to the cabin. It is entirely possible to ski right from the top of the Great Western lift straight to the front door of the cabin. Depending on snow conditions I would say that anyone attempting this should be confident skiing blacks and be able to navigate somewhat tight trees, but it is by no means "extreme" skiing and makes for an excellent last run before enjoying a few beers and some fondue. There are some Aspen glades up higher with tighter pines as you get closer to the cabin but the trees are entirely manageable and it is only slightly a "ski good or eat wood" situation. The route I took basically started by ducking under the rope at the very end of the ridge on Elk Park before it hangs a left back to the lifts. Essentially just stay high on the ridge until you get to the boundary and then go under it. I will say that its always a good idea to have proper back country knowledge and equipment whenever ducking a rope and although there were plenty of skier tracks where I went it is technically out of bounds and ski patrol is under no obligation to help you out if anything goes wrong. After ducking the rope the ridge basically ends and I simply worked my way down the fall line away from the lifts and occasionally traversed skier's right. It is possible to see the road and the loop by the Brighton Center most of the time to keep your bearings. I didn't need a map or anything I just kinda guessed based on where the loop started and ended up right across the street from the cabin the very first time. Skiing back to the cabin was simply a bonus to a perfect place to stay and ski. Brighton is a true skier's/rider's resort without the day spas and pretentiousness of a "ski" resort that doesn't focus on skiing. Just down the canyon is a Whole Foods and state liquor store, and in the summer Big and Little Cottonwood canyons have some amazing climbing.

I stayed here with some friends this winter I invited out for a ski trip from the east coast who never skied the west and it could not have been any better. They left feeling as though they skied for the first time all over again. But this cabin's proximity to Brighton and Solitude (my 2 favorites as a SLC resident), the natural surroundings, the simplicity/convenience of staying here and the cabin itself is beyond words. It's just something you have to experience and I highly, highly recommend this cabin to anyone in both winter and summer seasons in the Wasatch Mountains. The owners have this cabin set up as though you are staying in their home during your visit. It has everything already there for you. Simply stop by a local store to grab some perishable items like milk and eggs, for example, and maybe a nice dinner to cook, some easy lunches and you can take care of eating here instead of at the resorts. To have a nice dinner out, the Silver Fork Lodge is terrific and just minutes away. If you rent a car for your stay here, go with an all-wheel drive and there are places all over the Salt Lake Valley that rent cargo carriers for vehicle roofs which help if you plan on skiing Solitude. Last, but certainly not least are the owners. Not only for rolling out such a red-carpet treatment (think gifts), but the ability to reach them. If you have any questions there is cell service in the area and I was able to get responses within minutes. There isn't much more I can say other than the "feel" of the cabin itself but the photos provided are spot on and an exact image of what you're going to get and more. I will definitely be back here again.

Lovely renovated log cabin

We enjoyed the lovely cabin and the quiet solitude of the area. It was a nice break from our hectic everyday lives. We enjoyed a fire every afternoon/evening and played many games. It was great family time. Both my husband and I cook and we were wonderfully surprised with how well stocked the kitchen was and very well put together and nicely renovated. Mark and Jamie clearly had fabulous vision and spent the money to really do the place right! Mark was great to deal with. He even delivered a coffee grinder to the cabin just before our arrival after I inquired as to whether there was one in the cabin! The only down side was we ended up driving to Brighton because it was too far a walk for us in ski boots - about a half mile. It was only a 2 min drive so not a problem. We never figured out how to ski in, but did see a few people ski into the area. This is the only reason that I didn't give the cabin a full 5 stars. It may be a while before we get back to Brighton, but I would be glad to stay there again.

This is an absolutely beautiful cabin and the owner has covered all details needed for a comfortable stay. The access to Brighton and Solitude ski areas is perfect and if you are into Backcountry skiing in the Central Wasatch mountains as our group of 4 were, perfect base camp for day trips.

Just book it. You will not regret it.

We will be back!

Fantastic Place!

What a gem! Mark and his family have done an incredible job restoring this beautiful cabin creating a cozy, comfortable, charming home away from home tucked into the deep forest in the Wasatch Mountains. Even more impressive is the hospitality they show their guests; leaving fondue, firewood stacked in the fireplace, and beds made. This was easily our very best VRBO experience to date. My family from Iowa were in town visiting, and we had easy access to Solitude and Brighton, and were within reach of SLC by 20 mins down canyon drive. The skiing was fantastic, the stars at night left us feeling like we had the mountain to ourselves, and working with the owners was incredibly easy. My only hesitation in writing this review is that more people will discover this wonderful haven, and I won't be able to keep it secret for myself. I heartily recommend this property to anyone and all who are interested. So much better than staying on resort at Solitude or Brighton, and equally as easy!

Brighton Cabin

All of us really enjoyed our stay at this cabin and the owners went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.

If you desire the coziness of a real cabin with all the modern luxuries, you need not look any further. We built a roaring fire every night and in the mornings, donned our gear and headed to the lifts. And, it is only a 7 minute walk to the nearest lift.

Although the cabin is listed at only 1100 sq. ft,, it is laid out in such a way as to make it seem much larger - there is plenty of room for 8.

If you have never been to Brighton, you owe it to yourself to experience a visit.

Solitude/Brighton Get Away

5 of 5

The cabin was better than expected, even after spending much time viewing the website and looking at the pictures to get excited for the trip. Myself and 5 friends stayed in the cabin for 5 nights and couldn't have been happier. We had a spare bed space and couch so could have slept up to 8. The shower was amazing offering up very hot water after a long day of skiing and the fireplace was also nice to give it a cozy cabin feel.

The owner kindly left wine, a fondue set, and food just in case we couldn't get to a grocery store the first night. We found the whole experience to be very hopsitable. Even the beds were more lush than the one I sleep on at home topped with thick comforters and a very comfortbale mattress and pad.

Solitude ski resort was a 3 minute drive and Brighton was about the same, but from Brighton you could ski back to the cabin with proper navigation. And when we would come home with a bit of energy we would crack a few beers and throw some food on the grill while we played football in the snow, tromped around the property, built our own snow hut, and put the sleds to use.

It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it, especially for the bargain of a price. We certainly will be looking to go back here in the future.

The cabin so very cozy and comfortable with bran new appliances, a splendid fireplace and super comfy beds. Great for skiing, minutes from Solitude resort, walking distance from Brighton (which offers night skiing!) and country ski area. The best of everything in a very quiet and gorgeous setting in the Wasatch mountains. But the best was just the trees surrounding the cabin, the snow and the very sheer beauty of it all. The owners are very welcoming and quick to answer any questions. For us, this was real vacation in the country with all the amenities of the resort...

Great Weekend

We were only in this cabin for 2 days, but it is exactly what we wanted. The rooms are comfortable and the kitchen is large enough to cook big meals. There was a nice fondue gift package when we arrived that made the weekend perfect. It was really nice having a wood burning fireplace as well.
It was a short walk Brighton ski resort. So close it was easy to come back for lunch.
