***Detailed property description:
This loft in the centre of Paris combines modern, luminous, open space with original 18th century architectural design elements. Built originally in the 1870s during the Gustav Eiffel period, the loft was renovated from an old abandonned Printing House used by the Resistance for printing publications.
In 1940, resistance groups formed in Paris and were an instrumental force during the occupation. Publications were important in disseminating information to other groups. During the Loft renovation a secret room was discovered in the basement that had been used by the resistance during the war.
The renovation of the Printing House was focused on creating an open space underlining the spectacular Gustav Eiffel architecture. Floating passageways and glass floors showing the basement gym provide breathtaking perspectives of the three floors and unique volume.
Also included in the rates are:
- floral decorations - fresh flowers are maintained during the duration of guests' stay
- free phone calls (domestic and international) to land lines and North American cell phones
- gas, electricity, water - all amenities
- key provisions: bathroom and kitchen: toiletries, soaps, toilet paper, dish-washer tablets; washing machine detergent; steam iron and ironing table; cooking basics: olive oil, vinegars, salt, pepper, spices, sugar.
- Welcome Pack: Champagne; Fresh Fruit Basket; Freshly squeezed orange juice; Mineral Water; Milk; Butter; Nespresso coffee capsules, a selection of teas and coffees and hot chocolate
- bed-linen, towels, bathrobes
- weekly cleaning. Daily or additional housekeeping can be arranged on request.
The Loft is modular and with its two lounges, open kitchen/dining area, fully equipped office and gym & well-being room, suits many different lifestyles. Couples appreciate the luxury of space; groups of friends or couples traveling together appreciate the multiple common areas they would not have in a hotel, where they can spend time together during their trip; families are also welcome and well accommodated (the Loft is equipped with high-chair, push-chair and crib) - although it is important for families to note the open nature of the mezzanine level which is not suitable for young children unsupervised.
The Master Bedroom with en suite bathroom (sunken bath and rain shower) is situated on the first floor and has french windows with access to the furnished terrace.
The first Guest Bedroom is on the ground floor with large shower room opposite; the second Guest Bedroom is on the first floor next to the Master Bathroom with Powder Room opposite.
A third Guest Bedroom can be made up in the gym and relaxation room - it includes its own hydro-jet massage shower-room and sauna and also has flat screen TV and home-cinema and hi-fi.
The entrance of the Loft, with its own architectural glass and stainless steel doors, opens out onto the unexpected and dramatic Loft living space. At the end of the large open room, a 20 foot cathedral window is framed by a tall asian ficus tree whose trailing aerial roots are visible beneath the Loft's floating passageways and Gustav Eiffel wrought-iron girders. The passageways, reached by a central staircase, lead to a cosy second cocktail lounge with stocked cocktail cabinet and flat screen TV with Premium Cable and dvd player. The main living area comprises a lounge with Pascale Mourgue leather sofas and coffee table; a giant screen with home cinema and sound system; an exotic wood platform hosts a dining area and fully fitted open kitchen with american stainless steel fridge and hob and a breakfast bar. A glass floor reveals the Roger Talon exotic wood and stainless steel spiral staircase leading to the gym and relaxation room.
Gym and Relaxation Room:
The gym and relaxation room was a hidden room only discovered during the renovation of the building in 2000. Used by the French Resistance, this room originally had tunnels serving as escape routes that still remain today under the living room floor. Conserving the original Paris stone wall, the gym has been designed as a zen area of well-being and includes: sauna; hydro-jet massage shower; mutli-gym; elyptical trainer; yoga mats; free weights and for relaxing, sofa bed with flat screen TV and home cinema and sound system.
When not required as a third bedroom, there is a bespoke office equipped with desk, laptop, fax, printer and scanner and mini-fridge for mixers for the cocktail cabinet.
There is a south facing terrace running along the length of the property with access from the Master and second Guest Bedroom. The terrace has two bistro tables and four chairs for outside breakfasts or drinks and benefits from sun day long.
Guests are located right in the heart of Paris in a hip location with the whole city at their door-step, yet accommodated in a calm haven where it is hard to imagine that all this is just outside the front door.
Montorgueil hosts a diversity of interest for visitors including some of the trendiest designer shopping including vintage clothing boutique Killiwatch, known for its cutting edge young designers. Etienne Marcel is a revered street for stores including Kabouki, Barbara Bui and Marithé Françoise Gerbaud.
The neighborhood is Paris's best conserved 'fashion district' where many of the remaining 'Couture' ateliers are still located - some stores also sell to the general public.
Montorgueil hosts the remains of the city's fresh produce market - in Rue Montorgueil you can discover fresh fruit and sea-food markets; cheese and wine shops; chocolate ateliers and Stohrer - Paris's top patisserie that also proudly display their own post-cards showing the Queen of England's visit to taste their wares!
