Terrific place

The pictures on the site do not do the property justice. The farm is beautiful and peaceful with lovely vistas. The cottage (a former barn) was large and roomy, immaculately clean (if your standard is that you could eat off the floors - this is it), very nicely furnished - not your usual "cottage" second hand stuff--with all of the comforts of home. The owners (the Groves) were on site to answer all questions but the cottage was so well stocked and self-contained, we didn't need anything!. I was there for two days over Thanksgiving--it was unseasonably warm during the day, but the nights were cool and the cottage was warm and cozy. There was no skimping on the heat. Beautiful downtown Staunton is 15 minutes away with many charming stores (hooray! no chains), good restaurants, bakeries. We shopped at the Cranberry Grocery in Staunton (which includes a small market, general store, cafe and coffee bar) and got some wonderful sandwiches (had a bit for the sandwiches- but the only downside) for our hike in the Shenandoah National Park, which, along with the Blue Ridge Parkway, is very easy to get to from the cottage. We were able to make it to Charlottesville in 45 minutes on one evening. This is a great home base for taking beautiful hikes at the SNP during the day and relaxing and enjoying the beauty of this farm in the evening and morning. My favorite part was just sitting outside in the early morning sipping hot chocolate enjoying the tranquility of the expansive surroundings then strolling down the drive to say good morning to the mules, the cows and the sheep. You will also be warmly greeted by the Groves' friendly dogs They have walking trails on the property which we did not avail ourselves since we went hiking at Shenandoah. Because we were there in November, the pool was closed, but is located right outside the cottage and is clearly would be an added bonus in the summer, along the grill on an outside deck. Though we were a party of two we loved having so much room to spread out - but this is a great place for families. The Cottage at Seven Oaks Farms is a unique and wonderful property which was so much more fabulous and luxurious than any hotel you could stay at for the same price. Wish we could have stayed longer.
