3 days in Paonia
We rented this property for 3 nights for an annual BMW rally in Paonia. There were 2 couples in our party so the listing for 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen, 1 bath and a nice, cozy sitting room in the front fit our needs. The description and photos of the property online give a good representation of the house.
One of the bedrooms had a trundle bed but it was adequate for our needs.
The house was clean and inviting when we arrived and the cleaning person lives next door and she was friendly and helpful.
The only problem we encountered was poor internet connection and a very slow PC which is located in the sitting area. We did get wifi on our ASUS tablet but we think we were picking up the wifi from the rally which was only about 2 blocks away.
Paonia is in the 90's during July and this house doesn't have AC but it does have ceiling fans in all the rooms and several extra floor/window fans which we used to pull in the cool air in the early evening. Like most places in Colorado it cools off at night in the summer and we were comfortable through out the night. If it's too hot during the day you can take a drive to the top of The Grand Mesa. At 10,800 feet it cools off nicely and the views are spectacular.
We found the out of state owners of the property to be very friendly and willing to answer all our questions before and after arrival. They have specific check out requirements which we found very reasonable and easy to comply with. We received our deposit money back promptly also.
It was a very good experience for us and we would recommend it to our friends and will probably use it again in the future.
Paonia is a sleepy little mountain town with some surprises in it. Besides the rally, we went to several wineries in the area, all a very short drive from the house. Do not miss AZURA Cellars and Gallery just outside of town on highway 133. It's a spectacular piece of property with an incredible view of the Paonia valley. They have very good wines, some great artwork and jewelry. The owners are a very special couple. Ask them about their 6 year sailing adventure around the world.
There are a number of good deli's, coffee houses and restaurants in Paonia. We recommend The Flying Fork, The Victorian Cafe and the Living Farm Cafe. There's a good Mexican restaurant also. All these are 2 or 3 blocks from the house.
