Perfect peace, clean air and so unspoilt

And the small village church bell kindly stops at night! During the day all you hear are this distinctive church bell on the hour and half hour, the breeze through the trees, the ocassional moo-ing cow, the bread van tooting three times a week and more frequently the two lovely labs greeting barks next door. Nice welcome from friendly helpful hosts who are careful not to be intrusive, Very homely and comfortable cottage with good facilities and places to lounge about and eat outside in flowery secluded garden. Lovely local walks straight from the front door through lanes and tracks to (e.g) Sioule Gorge (an hours walk). Wonderful views when on the local walks, in all directions (Nades is relatively quite high up) including to the Puy Dome volcanoes on the horizon. Views from house itself are to a small adjacent lake that can be seen through the trees on one side, and a narrow view down the short access track to some fields, looking uphill. Thoroughly recommended for anyone looking for a very quiet peaceful time in lovely gently hilly unspoilt countryside which reminded us of Devon before it got so busy. There is canoeing on the lovely river 10 minute drive. The paitisserie in Ebruiel 15 min. drive sells excellent cakes and tartes, hard to beat anywhere I would think. Thanks Linda and Adrian it was a pleasure, and we will certainly think about coming back some time in the future and would definitely recommend to others looking for this kind of holiday.

Best French Holiday Yet

Where do we begin? Such a perfect relaxing two weeks made all the better by Lyn and Adrian and their two 'soppy dogs'. All four of them made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived at L'Etang. Lovely comfortable gite in such a peaceful setting, Sitting under the verandah in the morning with a cup of coffee listening to 'nothing'! Great way to start the day. Also a great way to end the day sitting there with a glass of wine. The welcome pack was really good too.
Plenty of places to visit in the area and Lyn and Adrian are there to give the benefit of their experience. A very enjoyable experience and would highly recommend you try it for yourselves.

What a warm well come we were given by Lin and Adrian and their 3 well behaved Labrador dogs. We were provided with a good welcome pack containing all the essentials. The cottage is in a quiet hamlet and in an area that has interesting villages and view points to visit.

Great views
Walks
Clean air
Wood burning stove for cooler evenings

A relaxing week with a good mix of things to do.

We have just returned from a wonderful week in this cottage. The property was comfortable and very clean and equipped to a high standard. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and most appreciated. We were made to feel very much at at home by Lin and Adrian who are also very knowledgeable on the local area. The cottage is situated in a beautiful and peaceful village with lots of wildlife to observe.
We would recomend a visit to the "Puy De Dome". Views from the top are stunning! The medieval village of Charroux is a must see. For the shopaholics, Vichy is a real gem with exclusive boutiques. There are plenty of outdoor activities in the local area but is also the perfect place to just sit and unwind with a glass of wine and a book.
Well worth the long drive.
We will definitely be back!

An absolutely lovely way to spend a holiday

From the very first instant L’Etang creates an immensely warm and welcoming impression. Situated in a charming village, this lovely cottage is ideal for anyone who wants to spend a very special holiday in the heart of a beautiful, but relatively unknown area of France.

Lin and Adrian were perfect hosts: welcoming and friendly, very knowledgeable and informative about the area yet completely respectful of our privacy. Every type of information we could wish for was readily available, from the best supermarkets, to inexpensive but super restaurants, to places of interest to visit, and the best times to go.

The cottage and facilities are excellent, really comfortable, decorated to a very high standard and containing everything you might possibly need. The welcome basket was a lovely touch; so thoughtful and very much appreciated. The setting is so beautiful, with lovely views from the windows across the lake. The cottage is also suitable for a wide range of people, from those with young children, to people looking for a relaxing break in beautiful and peaceful countryside.

The area around Nades is lovely, and offers something to interest most people. For those who are looking for adventure the surrounding area is great for kayaking and mountain climbing, opportunities for walking are plentiful, those who enjoy history and culture have the numerous chateaux and historic towns, and those who like shopping and nightlife have larger towns such as Vichy and Clermont Ferrand.

We had the most fantastic time, in such beautiful surroundings and were so well looked after, that I really can’t wait to go again.

Ferien wie im Paradies

Review Submitted: August 2, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
