House, 4 Bedrooms, 5 Baths (Sleeps 12)

Located in Barrio Esperanza at 347 Calle Tintillos, Casa Jenny offers Stateside convenience and easy access to all the action and beauty of the famous Malecon... Vieques Island's focal point for celebration and just plain hanging out! The home is comprised of 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths and 2 half baths. There are 2 separate living areas, one downstairs and one upstairs (each sleeps 6). Both have private entry as well as their own covered roof top patios (sorry, no kids under 10 ...roof top railings not child proof) complete with view of the Caribbean. With completion in January 2006, the original home was gutted, more than doubled in size with additions at the rear and totally modernized, right down to the cherry cabinets and 36 inch digital TV's with satellite dish!

The home is two and a half short blocks from the Malecon... making it possible to enjoy your stay on Vieques Island without having to rent a car.

You can walk to the restaurants, shops and cafes as well as to the beach that is adjacent to the Malecon's commercial area. Less than one block away you will find a small colmado (grocery store), a bakery/pizza shop and a chicken restaurant. Want to explore the beaches or outlying areas? Local taxis are abundant and will take you anywhere you wish for a reasonable fare. If you do wish to rent a car, our Links page will lead you to all the car rental companies.

The home's furnishings, appliances and fixtures were all new as of January 2006. Sheets and towels are all high quality 100% cotton. Both units are tiled including first floor front porch, second floor balcony and second floor's Casita roof patio. There is a covered roof top patio for each unit, each with its own private stairway. Upstairs unit has a bathtub with tile surround. Downstairs unit has a large walk-in tile shower. Both units have their own washers and dryers in a separate laundry/sitting area.

There is an abundance of shelving and clothes hanging areas throughout the home. Nearly all lighting is on dimmer switches for that 'just right' ambiance. Unlike most Vieques offerings, the all-new windows are glass, not metal slats which tend to make rooms somewhat gloomy at times. Great rooms and bedrooms all have ceiling fans and the bedrooms have window air conditioning units.

The neighborhood is a safe one and the neighbors are friendly. Feel free to stroll about. Other rentals are sprinkled throughout the village and the locals are used to visitors. Esperanza lets you experience island living more as a resident than as a tourist. The sights and sounds of everyday life here are of roosters crowing, geese making sounds like a squeaky gate, the occasional visiting iguana and people living the free and easy island life.

Upon request, you will be greeted at the airport or ferry by our very capable and good natured manager, Kikito, who will help you get settled in and be available if you need assistance.

House was in a great location, not too far from the main area...10 minute walk. The house looked like the pictures posted, just more greenery grown up around it. Inside the house was clean and spacious. Dave the owner was most helpful with any questions that we needed answered. We would rent this property again, and recommend this to anyone that would be interested in staying in Esperenza. I think out of the adults and teenagers, Duffy's was the restaurant of choice. Great selections and reasonable prices. "Fun Brothers" was an awesome place to deal with for kayaks and scooters. Since there really is no place to park at the house, we rented the scooters during the day and Megael, let us take them back there to park for the night. Scooters are the way to go around on the island, out in the fresh air, and can park anywhere, just drive safely and watch for potholes. There is not one traffic light on the island. Make sure to venture out to all of the different beaches. Lots of side (dirt) roads to get to them, just have to watch out for the entrances. Bio Bay tour is a must!! Was a little bit scary, but well worth the adventure :) Kayak to the island directy across from the piers, great snorkeling. Secret beach was the best for nice sand. Green beach nice for snorkeling. The bakery around the corner was very good, fresh bread daily, donuts...but be careful not to eat too many!! Grocery store around the corner, almost the same prices as the one in Isabella. Green store was also good for groceries. Take a taxi ride anywhere for $3.00/person. Reliable taxi driver was Coqui. Be adventurous and ready to explore the wonderful sights on this island. Awesome sunrise and sunsets to watch out for. Maybe a suggestion to bring your own staple foods (coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, condiments). Bring along some water and snacks in case you arrive late, nothing will be open, grocery stores close at 6pm. Don't forget the sunscreen, everyday was gorgeous. We had a wonderful time!!! Enjoy yourself on ISLAND TIME!!

Just wanted to let you know how great this house and the people (especially Kikito) have been. Let me know where to post a review for future renters to read. Thanks for everything. We only have two more days and I wish it was more. My family wants to take this home back with us, it's beautifully done.

We have just returned from a week at Casa Jenny and all are agreed that this vacation rates far above any pre-packaged, all-inclusive, "resort" vacation we've ever taken.
The apartments are beautifully appointed inside, with all of the comforts, and within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and a couple of beaches.
But the real plus was spending a week in a Vieques neighborhood -- roosters, horses and all -- and meeting warm, interesting people who weren't being paid to feed us or entertain us.
Casa Jenny is a charming and comfortable "home" in a lovely setting on a unique and delightful island. What more could you want?
