Photos and Description of the Harrisonburg vacation cabin rental
1 Bedroom (Queen Size) 1 Full Bathroom with 1 Queen size sofa bed

Dry River Cabin is cozy and comfortable. It is a rustic vacation rental cabin in the heart of historic Rawley Springs. The cabin is designed with knotty pine in the interior, and a screened in porch with a great view of the mountain on the exterior. The cabin has one bedroom with a queen size bed and a new fireplace insert (we provide the firewood too), full bath with claw foot tub, and a full kitchen with all the essentials: refrigerator, microwave, stove, and coffee maker and utensil and cookware. It also has a pull out queen sofa couch. All linens and comforters are washed after every guest. The cabin has access to fishing and trails for hiking or mountain biking. It is about 10 miles from Harrisonburg and Bridgewater, so you're only minutes away from shopping and dinning as well.

Beloved pets are welcome but we do require up to a $39 Pet Cleaning Fee because we wash the couch covers after every guest with pets stays at the cabin. There is also a Property Damage Protection Fee of up to $29 - $89 (depending on length of stay)

Rates will vary during peak and holiday seasons.

Dry River Cabin is a great place to see the stars. On clear nights, you can see thousands of stars overhead. It is a beautiful sight. Also during the spring and summer months, you can see humming birds everywhere. We place feeders off the front porch of the cabin and have personally seen upwards of 20 birds feeding on them at one time. The humming birds should be arriving in April. You don't want to miss them.

Check in time is 4:00 pm and checkout is 11 am

Pets are welcome at all of our properties. If you or someone in your group is allergic to pets or anything else (detergent, air fresheners, etc), please let us know in advance so we can discuss this prior to your booking and then also prior to your arrival.

About Katie & Steven Robert Jones

I am a full time college student and my wife is a teacher. We moved to Virginia from Texas so I could finish my college degree. We have a daughter who is 3 who loves to go for walks and play at the cabin and an infant. We are down to 8 dogs now, and we have 3 cats. When we travel everyone gets to go along (pets included). Our pets love to be in the car as well as explore all of the trails here in Rawley Springs.

Katie & Steven Robert Jones purchased this cabin in 2011
Why Katie & Steven Robert Jones chose Harrisonburg

We bought this cabin because it was right next to our house, and we decided it would be a nice property to own. We love to spend weekends up there when the cabin isn't rented out.

Great little rustic cabin in the woods

I have stayed a few of Steven and Katie's other cabins before, but this is probably my favorite. Though it's one of their smallest and doesn't sleep very many, it is the most isolated from the neighbors.
Even though it is isolated it is not remote. it's just a minute or two off the state highway, and less than 10 miles from Harrisonburg. It seems to me to be the best of both worlds: hiking trails through the National Forest within easy walking distance of the cabin, isolated yard and screened porch to read a book or watch the birds, yet just a short drive to town with lots of shopping and restaurant options.

Great little getaway

to Virginia since George Washington National Forest and Shanendoah National Park were held in high esteem by people on the internet.

Katie and Steven (the owners) were very accommodating when I was having trouble booking something that fit the time we were going to be down. When I met each of them in person (on different occasions) they were just as nice as in the emails.

The cabin was very clean and everything I could imagine was provided. Towels, blankets, coffee maker, utensils, pots, pans, ect. A decent TV, a few movies laying around incase you get bored. The bed was very comfortable.

There is a nice little trail behind that you can use for walking the dogs or taking a short morning hike.

All in all I had a great stay. It can be an hours drive to some of the more 'major' local nature attractions but definitely worth it. I recommend a drive to Skyline Drive in Shenandoah and the hike on Big Schloss in George Washington National Forest.

Never though I'd say this, but I'll be heading back to Virginia again and I will certainly be staying in one of Katie and Steven's cabins!

Perfect Mountain Getaway!

I researched the heck out of cabins in the surrounding area and luckily settled on this one. It was everything we wanted in a mountain getaway: cozy, quiet, off the beaten path yet close enough to town if needed, dog friendly and well appointed. This cabin had everything we could think of, as well as things we hadn't thought of: board games, a TV tray, and landlines for when our cell phone service got spotty. We were thrilled to be able to have our dogs, and took them for several walks right out back, where there are two trails. We also walked down to the river and hiked until our frozen feet couldn't take crossing the river one more time. The owners were very helpful and it was comforting to know they are just down the hill, should we have needed them. We are already hoping to return in late summer and have told several people about it.

You KNOW it's a good vacation when you start planning your return trip in the car on the way home! We loved Dry River Cabin: perfect combination of rustic and comfort, private but not remote, cozy but not cramped. The pictures on the website really didn't do it justice; we were pleasantly surprised at how spacious all the rooms were. It's hard to play "favorites", but if we had to choose, it would be the screened in front porch with hammock chair, rockers, love seat, breakfast nook, and hot-and-cold running bird feeders. It was a PERFECT spot to practice my yoga. Or to practice coffee-drinking. Or to practice relaxing and watching the hummingbirds and woodpeckers. But we also LOVED the bedroom, with its field stone surround and hearth and life-saving fire box (it was COLD at times!). The fire pit and lounge chairs up the hill out back was also a favorite, and we spent several afternoons up there enjoying the scenery. (But since it rained every night, we never got a chance to sit around the camp fire and star-gaze! On our "to do" list for next visit!) There was so much to do within walking distance, or in a short drive, and Steven and Katie were most helpful in suggesting places and activites. They were the best! What a cool couple. Where else could you begin your stay with a box of fresh eggs! Delicious. So, we are thinking of how beautiful it would be in Rawley Springs in the fall...

Out of the many places that my fiancee and I have vacationed, the Dry River Cabin takes the cake. The peaceful sound of the river after rain, the quiet enviroment around us, sitting on the cabin screened in porch watching humming birds of all colors not even three feet away from us eat from the hummingbird feeder, the trails around the cabin along with access to the fresh springs, and most of all the hospitality the cabin owners present made our stay an unforgetable experience. We will be visiting again!

This cabin is a great place to stay in the Va. Mountains. The drive and the area were the cabin is located is beautiful. The cabin is very warm, cozy, quiet and romantic. A great place to relax, unwind, and enjoy all what nature has to offer. The species of birds you can see and observe are endless. The owners Stephen and Katie are great folks. They are both very accommodating and organized. The farm fresh eggs they provided made the best scrambled eggs. Despite the rain for our stay, we still had a great, great time. We look forward to our next stay there again. Thanks so much Stephen and Katie.

Wonderful Getaway and Time with our Family

Very cozy, comfortable and homey cabin. We loved our relaxing and calm visit as a family before my husband left on deployment. It's just we needed and wanted. Enjoyed the peace, beautiful atmosphere, campfire, mountain views and hikes as well as a nearby lake. The hosts provided wonderful hospitality.....more like they were old friends. The property was well-maintained. Do expect the road leading up to the cabin to be very rural....difficult to maneuver the first time, but you get the hang of it after that (after a few tips from the host). Would definitely recommend.

Just What We Needed

We booked our trip to Dry River Cabin to escape the long, wet and cold Canadian spring. Dry River cabin was everything we could have hoped for! The cabin is everything a cabin in the mountains should be. Rustic, cozy and most importantly, super clean.
The four of us and our two dogs still had room to move around. The screened in front porch was my favorite place to sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee. The master bedroom is so adorable it's beyond words!
Steven and Katie are wonderful hosts who answered all of our questions and made us feel very welcome. They even surprised us with a dozen fresh eggs from their chickens.
There is a path up the mountains that we walked the dogs up every morning and evening. Harrisonburg is only fifteen minutes away with shopping and dining options. We drove out to the Shenandoah Caverns and spent a couple of hours there. Definitely worth the forty minute drive there. Amazing caverns!
Our trip was too short and we fell in love with the cabin and the area more each day. We can't wait to go back and explore the area more next spring!

Thanks Steven and Katie!

My Favorite Mountain Cabin

The cabin has a great front screen porch which provides a fantasic place to watch and listen to birds. Especially the hummingbirds. Wish it had been Winter so that we could have had a fire in the bedroom. I imagine the warmth of the fire would be very relaxing. It must be beautiful in the Winter with the snow. The kitchen had everything that we needed to cook. Steven and Katie are two very special people. We will definitely be back again.
