Having stayed in Sterrett's lovely 1840 Greek Revival House that is adjacent to the Carriage House last summer for 2 weeks, we knew we would not be disappointed and we were not! The Carriage House is beautifully appointed and warm and welcoming for a January weekend. Highly recommmend.

Me and my boyfriend spent one week here in november, during the stay I celebrated my 30th birthday. We could not have chosen a better place, the house had all we could wish for and more. Super-storm Sandy had hit New York just a few days earlier and coming all the way from Sweden we were a bit worried at first. We had frequent contact with Sterrett during the days prior to our flight and she helped us with everything we needed to know, so it all went very well.

For us this was the perfect location, close enough to make it to NYC over the day, 5 min to a great food store, cafés and restaurants but still very quiet and in the countryside. We were impressed with Sterretts job on the house, it was very tastefully done both inside and outside. We are both architects and quite picky! The equipment in bathroom and kitchen is all good quality and the furniture and decorations in the house are interesting and well-picked. Sitting out on the porch in the morning sun watching the squirrels was a great way to start the day. In bad weather thick carpet in front of the the gas fireplace was just perfect.

There is a lot to explore in the area, we enjoyed many of the small towns such as New Paltz, which is close by, and Rhinebeck on the other side of Hudson. We spent one day at the spa in Mohonk Mountain House (10-15 min) and had a lovely walk around the lake where it is situated. We would also recommend you to go up in the Catskills and search for the location of the former resort Catskill Mountain House. The view from the spot where the hotel once was is stunning. Say no more, just go there. You can find directions in Tim Mulligans guidebook to the Hudson Valley, among other great things.

Do not hesitate to choose the carriage house, wether you are escaping the city for a few days, or if you are interested in visiting one of the most diverse regions in the states for some longer, this is a great place.

My boyfriend and I spent the New Year's holiday at the Carriage House and what a treat it was! As other reviewers have noted Sterrett was a wonderful host who gave us all the tools to have a quiet and restful weekend. Every detail is considered at The Carriage House and I found we really wanted for nothing. I also found the house to be both spacious and cozy and with so much light coming in from the many windows, you could spend an entire afternoon gazing out at the snow (as I did). I highly recommend the Carriage House to anyone who wants a quiet yet accessible retreat. This is your place!

My friend and I were looking for a weekend away from very busy lives, well we found it! We booked this house due to it's close proximity to Mohonk to to do some hiking. The pictures did not do justice to this well appointed most comfortable house. We will definitely be back and wish it was for sale since it is perfectly decorated and restored with thought and good taste. Our host graciously met us and showed us around the house the first night, she is wonderful. The larger house is a great option for weekends with more friends, glad we came and would completely recommend you do as well!

The Carriage House is beautifully situated and decorated. It was the perfect location for a romantic getaway. The property is gorgeous and there is plenty of exploring to enjoy in the surrounding hills and towns. All conveniences are a short drive away. The photos are an accurate representation of the apartment, though it is more spacious in person. It was spotlessly clean. We are already thinking ahead to future stays, and would absolutely recommend it (and the neighboring house) to friends and family.

Agree with all the reviews above. The carriage house is a little gem of a place, perfect for a retreat for two (plus our dog). We spent a wonderfully relaxing weekend just 5-10min away from wonderful hiking both at Mohonk and Lake Minnewaska. And with all the nearby farmers markets we almost didn't have to venture into civilization.

Based on the pictures, description, and previous reviews of this property, our expectations were high as we began our weeklong stay here. It would have been quite easy for us to have come away disappointed,at least a bit, given how high our expectations were. However, we can honestly say that the cottage and its setting turned out to be even better than we had anticipated. The cottage is meticulously clean and set on a lovely piece of land, that is a pleasing mix of manicured lawn, beautiful gardens, and spots left wild. The latter proved to be a daily feeding spot for deer, whom we frequently observed through the ample windows of the dining/living room as we ate a tranquil breakfast. While we spent considerable time during our stay exploring the surrounding region (Including a couple of great hikes in the Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska State Park), it turns out that our favorite moments were spent sitting with our dog on the porch. Sterrett, the owner, was a wonderful hostess and made us feel completely welcome and at ease as she greeted us and showed us around the cottage. Based on all the glowing reviews, you might think that this place is too good to be true. Trust us: It is every bit as good as advertised.

We rented both buildings that are owned on this property to share time with our extended family. The time was amazing!! I am almost reluctant to share how beautiful it is and would like to keep it as a family retreat place, a secret.
