Centrally located in the Santa Ynez Valley on a private gated 10 acre horse ranch.

The Santa Ynez Valley is a rural scenic area with rolling hills, wineries, horses, a large golf course nearby, rich olive and lavender industries and the ocean is less than an hour away.Lots of shopping at unique local shops, antique shops and Solvang our world famous Danish Village is less than 3 miles away.

Plenty of places to bike ride, hike, ride, shop and eat. Lots of amazing restaurants all throughout this area. This area is absolutely a destination vacation place. What a great place to come and take time off from your busy schedules, take a huge breath and get rejuvenated and ready to go again!

About The Owner

Brian is an Architect that specializes in Christian based Alcohol & Drug Rehab Centers all around the United States.

Marcia is the horse specialist and coaches and trains people and their horses. Marcia works all ages, but especially loves to work with children. Marcia also specializes in rescuing and rehabbing horses and putting htem back into full service with their people.

We participate and volunteer in The Ranch Church here in the Valley, a great place to visit if you're here over a Sunday. A casual upbeat Calvary Chapel Church with great worship music.

This is a family business with our two adult sons Dan and Jeremy helping and participating in bldg, constr and upkeep of our 10 acre property.

We have 2 grandchildren Noah 6 and Becca 17yrs that help too. Becca is our photographer! We have a couple of friendly dogs; MacKenzie and Cowboy.

We look forward to meeting you when you check in. You will love our area and our home away from home all prepared for YOU!

Why The Owner chose Santa Ynez

We love the area, the people, the shops and restaurants etc. Our favorite restaurant is The Los Olivos Cafe; our favorite shop is Back At The Ranch in SY.

There are many, many places to visit and see. Serious bike riders LOVE this area. There are so many places to train. Horse people LOVE this area. We have lots of trails nearby where you can ride in the mountains and by Cachuma Lake.

If you just want to get some R & R, The Country Ranch House is nice enough to just stay and enjoy with the amenities it provides. You will go home refreshed and ready to face the world once again!

We have many celebrations here. A Day in the Country, Danish Days, Santa Ynez Valley Days and more. We have parades for every holiday in various of the towns here. We have music festivals and music & movies in the park in downtown Solvang.

The visitors bureau will help us to collect all the dates of all that happens here.

And of course Wine Tasting has become a very BIG draw here. Wineries galore. We have begun a fun wine exchange program. Buy your favorite wine and leave a bottle with a message on the bottle, take a bottle another guest has left for your fun.

What an amazing spot! Not only are you in the middle of a beautiful piece of property but the hosts couldnt be any nicer and the room any better. If Santa Ynez is on your map give the Cottage at the Barn a try.

Thanksgiving week stay

Our stay at the Cottage by the barn was wonderful. We were looking for a private place that will allow pets. When we found this listing we got so excited! All we can say is that it met all expectations. Private, clean, all amenities that we wanted to have, and just a very short drive to Solvang. The owner was very helpful, oferred suggestions for restaurants around the area, and spend some time with us animal lovers explaining horses, we were able to pet them and take as many pictures as we wanted. We will definitely think about Cottage by the barn when visiting the area in the future. We highly recommend this place. Joel and Silvia Taylor

Warm and Relaxing

We really enjoyed our stay at the Cottage by the Barn. The unit was warm, clean and very cozy. It was nicely decorated and very clean.

The property sits on a working horse ranch which was an added plus. My daughter and I had the chance to feed the horses around the property one morning. It was fun and something we don't get to do very often.

If we are ever in Santa Ynez again, we would definitely stay here.

We had a really nice 4 night stay here. The cottage was really cute and had everything we needed. Our dog enjoyed it too! Location is excellent and walkable to Santa Ynez and short drives to Solvang and Los Olivos. The owners are very nice and helpful! Highly recommend this place for a quiet getaway!

We spent ten days there while we attended two weekend wine events and lots of wineries. Everything was as advertised except we were pleasantly surprised by the a/c that worked great. It was a working horse ranch as the owner told us but it was very quiet and private. There was no road, plane or train noise and less than a mile to town. We did visit a couple of new restaurants (to us) and were happy with the choices. We hope to return when we're in the area.
Owner's Response: We are very glad that your vacation was peaceful. You were very quiet guests but we sure miss being able to set our clocks as you drove out on schedule each morning most likely for your daily cup!!

What a Splendid Stay!

My husband and I brought our 3-month-old son to spend the weekend at the cottage and we had a blast. It was first time at the cottage and the size was just perfect for the three of us. They even had a pack-n-play for our son to use! After spending hours in traffic we finally made it to the cottage on Friday and were greeted by the owner as she was working on cleaning the hoofs of one of her horses. It was a hot weekend, but we were out and about during the day and it cooled off nicely during the night time. Had a lovely little walk around the property and the horses were all very friendly and would walk up to greet us every time we got close. It was cool waking up in the morning to the "neighs" of our friendly neighbors! Would highly recommend this place! Great location, very responsive owners, and good size for our small family. We will be back again!!

Ranch life with the feel of home!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay!

It was quiet and beautiful in Santa Ynez and particularly peaceful on the ranch. It was so fun to interact with the horses for us city-dwellers!

We went on multiple walks around the property and down the road. We ate amazing food at the local restaurants (The Brother's Restaurant & Avant Tapas and Wine Bar were particularly great) and we went berry picking at Summerset Farms just down the road from where we were staying.

The property owners were very friendly and helpful. AND they offered us all the plums we could eat from their plum tree that was just filled with ripe delicious plums.

I'm so glad we chose to stay here and look forward to a chance to visit again!

Amazing Trip

We had an amazing trip for our five year anniversary. The cottage at the barn was like our home away from home. Clean, cute and had everything we could ever need. The location was ideal...we were minutes from the local towns and wineries. We were able to do all we wanted to do during the day without having to travel far at all. It was wonderful walking up the sounds of the horses each morning. And every night after our adventures were able to enjoy a movie in the cozy living room. We hope to come back real soon. Wonderful, comfortable, peaceful stay

This was a perfect choice for my husband and I as I was running the half marathon and all the hotels were booked up. I am glad to say they were, because as a result I found this charming place. The owners were wonderful and friendly and even supported me during the race! Would absolutely stay here again...slept great both nights.
