Dream house

We (4 adults and two kids, age 3 and 1) stayed at Quinta del Sol for a week in June and we loved everything about this villa, from its modern design to the natural setting in the midst of the rain forest. We loved waking up in the morning and hearing the howler monkeys and birds chirping away. I especially loved preparing breakfast or lunch in the kitchen overlooking the veranda and the beautifully landscaped backyard. My children were never tired of running and chasing after butterflies in the front or back garden or looking at ants carrying a load of leaf on their back heading home to their nest.
As the weather was so warm, we could literally dip into the pool any time of day. Yes, it did rain almost everyday during our stay, but only for a short while, and we loved the rain plus it's just simply refreshing after that. Basically, we've enjoyed our trip to CR very much and will definitely be back.
A caveat to this villa, however, is that it is in a very remote place where all other developments are being on hold and down a dirt and pot-holed ridden path (perhaps this will change once the JW Marriott and the Hacienda are completely built out) where your neighbors are much poorer than you’re so it's not for everyone. As such, staying at this place will require you to stock your refrigerator and prepare a few meals (or order a chef) as it's not just a "zip" in and out of town. (We took full advantage of the kitchen as well as the grill.) If you're not into nature and have qualms every time you see geckos, beetles, ants, or other insects around you, then this place is not for you. Perhaps you should check in the Playa Hermosa area instead where all the brand name resorts are at your disposal. But then you'll be missing out on what real CR is all about, nature and wildlife.
Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind review and your honesty, to me when i am there i zip into town 5-6 times a day and think nothing of it but understand if you are not used to it , it may seem longer than it really is also depending on what kind of car you have too !! i hope you come back soon , we really like people who want to see the real costa rica , and not the 4 Seasons and really enjoy the villa for what and where it is as i say if i wanted a bunch of neighbors on top of me i would have built somewhere else ! See you soon !

Great Home away from home!

Me and my wife went for our honeymoon and the place was fabulous. There was great outdoor space and a grill to enjoy the wonderful weather that Costa Rica has to offer. The private pool was the best feature since you would never get that at any resort. Probably the best part of renting this villa was the staff of people that run the place. They are very knowledgeable of the area and have plenty of tips to make you feel at home. When I go back I will definitely love to rent with them again.
Owner's Response: Hi Adam , Thanks for your review , and we wish you and yours all the best ! Thanks for coming to stay with us I know Claudia said you had a blast and want to come back , so anytime just give us a call or email ! We love to have people who like to enjoy themselves , and go with the flow ! Thanks again ! JD

Absolutely Worth It!

When we were looking for a place for our family to stay, Quinta del Sol stuck out from the rest. In person, it was everything we were hoping it to be.

We really enjoyed the absolute quiet, the patio was where we spent 90% of our time in the house, eating, relaxing, and just generally hanging out together. The pool was a wonderful draw, especially after a hot day out wandering around the area.

We could not more highly recommend it to anyone looking for a similar combination: quiet, clean, relaxing and close to anything you would like to do in the area.

Not what you see!!!

My family and I went to Costa Rica for a week in May 2009 and stayed at the Quinta del Sol Hernandez. The house was infested with ants, no where near close to the beach,
unmaintained dirt road to get down to access the house and very much away from everything. The first day we were there two guys show up and say they were with a landscaping company but they didn't have a truck or any type of tools. Once I told them I was calling the property manages they took off running. Don't bring anything you don't want stolen....this house is very much off the beaten path and subject to break-ins. The electricity went out every time it rained and the last time it went out we had no water and didn't get any before we left. I recommend that you try somewhere else to stay that is closer to the attractions and where it is more secure. This home is great for people who want to stay at the house and not venture out and that don't mind doing without electricity.
Owner's Response: It is exactly what you see ,this is in response to this review which was very negitive , i am the owner and my property managers worked above and beyond the call of duty with this guest ,bu several things need to be cleared up first and for most my villa is as safe as just about anywhere in the world , besides being fenched and gated it has a alarm system and we have never had a problem at the villa with respect to that and this client had nothing stolen or robbed, so i do not understand why she says this stuff, a small ant problem was there it was attended to by property managers and fixed at once same as fan in bedroom , the ac worked but the last guest did not tell us fan broke, a minor thing in my book ,we have aux water tank, the power was out because of big storm everywhere and power was out all over Tamarindo area nothing that unusal if you have ever been to CR , we put them in a condo because they were afraid of the dark at my expense we are in a country setting as the ad
describes and guanacaste is know for its dirt roads and i can tell you they are much better now than they used to be and it is just 9 min by car to the beach just like i advertise not 9-or 10 miles, as far as the people who show up in uniform are with the lanscape company who come every week and sometimes more if things need to be done they are the best same as the pool guy , and my property managers have been in Tamarindo for a very long time and everyone loves them and this client told them everything was great ! So come join the many happy people whom know how to go with the flow ,its not always perfect in Central America but that is why a lot of us love it there it is a beautiful place with fantastic people , 5 min down the road on a dirt road is the JW Marriott Hotel and Spa and Hacienda Pinilla Golf club off the beaten track as well just the way we like it and presisely why i bought and built this villa had i wanted to be in town in the crowds and traffic and noise i would have .
so if you are needing paved roads and room service, afraid of the dark, gekos, or anything else, sorry ! we have a maid , and private chef , and we all like to have fun regardless of the power-which i have no control over that or the weather , no control over that either but the sun shines about 345 days a year we all try and make the best out of our vacations and hope you do as well , so let us know about any concerns you may have and we will be as honest as always with our guests

A little Paradise

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stay here during a recent trip to Costa Rica. The house is perfectly situated just outside of Tamarindo on the way to Playa Avellanas. When it is breaking both of those beaches offer some of the best surfing to all levels of ability. And for those non surfers Playa Avellanas is the perfect place to work on your suntan. There is a great beach bar and you may even be lucky enough to be visited by Lola the resident pig on her way to the ocean for a dip...we were and it was a riot!

The house itself is stunning and is hardly done justice in the photos provided. We have rented all over the world and have found that sometimes the photos provided are not accurate. Not in this case! The house is well designed, modern, clean, AND quiet which is a huge plus given the hustle of Tamarindo. We loved waking up and having coffee outside followed by a quick dip in the pool before heading off to surf. In the afternoons we were happy to return and lounge by the pool before heading out to dinner. The house is beautifully landscaped offering a great deal of privacy, which also attracting a ton of birds etc.

Neither of us can stop talking about this house. It was perfectly romantic for the two of us, but would be a great choice for a group of friends or a family as well. The kitchen is completely modern and the house has a washer/dryer so you are not stuck wearing dusty clothing your entire trip (this is Costa Rica!). Plus, the owner is a gem and made the entire process of renting the house etc beyond easy. I wouldn't dream of renting another place in the area...even if it is closer to the beach. This place is worth the 10 minute drive to the water. You truly feel as if you are on vacation here.

Other plus': The new grocery store has all the comforts of home and of Costa Rica. Dinner at Media Naranaja is a must. It easily the best dinning experience in Tamarindo. We are from San Francisco and MN offered us a little taste of home.

You won't be sorry to have rented this home.

Great Place to Go !

What a great place and a great area! The pool, yard and house were simply spectacular and as comfortable as can be in a developing country like CR. The house has great furniture, is well decorated and features a modern and very well equipped kitchen. We visited during the rain season, which usually means a 1-2 hours thunderstorm during the afternoon. While this did not at all prevent us from going to the beach or visit the area, we must say that the huge covered outdoor patio was probably the highlight of the villa as far as we are concerned. It allowed us to eat, read, dance and play with the kids outside, during the rain showers! The local cooks made available by John (Tania, with her daughter Katia) were a lot of fun and made the best meals we paid for in CR – and it was also pretty funny going to the grocery store with Tania to purchase food for her to cook … especially considering we did not speak much Spanish (“gracias” and “por favor” became our two favourite words pretty fast!). The house is in a rural area, at the entrance of what will become a new development of similar architect designed houses. Tamarindo, the ocean and a magnificent grocery store are just ten minutes away. Locals live just around the corner from the house, which allowed us to make friends with a number of them – while they are very poor, we found the people to be very proud, welcoming, peaceful and friendly. Clearly, this is not a place where you’ll be worried about your safety or security. One night, we even went dancing to traditional CR local music with our two kids at a local joint (Rancho El Coyote) where we were the only people not from the area. There were even horses “parked” outside the place (many Costa Ricans still travel by horse)! What an experience (and again, only big smiles everywhere)! In closing, we would not want to forget to mention John and his local property manager, Didier, who were both very responsive during our stay – it was nice to see that we had a reliable resource to turn to if we needed it. Thanks for a great stay, we’d go back anytime!
