Photos and Description of the New Orleans vacation apartment rental
3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, sleeps 6

The Carrollton area is by turns sleepy and lively, with lovely streets populated by stately Oaks and a history of being where the erudite summered in New Orleans, beautiful Victorians line this streecar boulevard. The Claiborne is situated along historic oak-lined Carrollton Ave, mere steps from the St. Charles Ave Street car. This 3 BR/2 BA, is one of six flats in a lovely Historic home that has been faithfully restored to it's original grandeur with a mix of the historic and the modern, featuring two master bedrooms, each with a Queen bed, full-closet and one with an en-suite full bath. A junior bedroom also features a Queen bed and full-closet. The heart of the home is a cozy kitchen with a large eating/lounging area, flat screen TV/DVD, cable and Wi-Fi internet. Plenty of room for all to gather and pass an evening, host a dinner party, or settle in for a quiet dinner for two. Spacious yet intimate, the Claiborne is perfect for families or several couples traveling together.

Carrolton Avenue: Before being annexed by the city of New Orleans, the town of Carrolton was a summer resort community where the well-to-do kept a summer cottage and enjoyed the shady woodlands, meadows and breezes from the nearby Mississippi river. The Claiborne is a stone's throw from beautiful Palmer Park. Family friendly with a new 'Kaboom' playground, Palmer Park hosts many community and cultural events. The last Sat. of every month Palmer Park comes to life during the Arts Market with tents of arts & crafts vendors, refreshments and live music. The St. Charles Street car -the oldest street car line in the world! -runs directly past The Claiborne, rolling on to destinations such as : The French Quarter, Canal Street, Audubon Park/Zoo, Aquarium of the Americas, The Garden District and Lafayette Cemetery. The Claiborne lies within easy walking distance of Historic Oak street and it's eclectic shops, boutiques, and various restaurants of all sorts, local groceries, pharmacies -even good old American fast food!

Good Eats!: Camelia Grille, Jacque Imo's, Maple Leaf Bar, Ninja Sushi, Rue De La Course, Oak Bar, Curry Corner, Mona's Mediterranean, Oak Street Cafe, Sno Balls, Lebenon Cafe, Cafe Greneda, Panchito's Mexican, Little Tokyo, Saltwater Grille, O'Henry's, Brigsten's, Matt and Naddies, Dante's Kitchen, China Orchid, Hana, Cold Stone Creamery, Cooter Brown's Oyster Bar, New Orleans Daiquiri, Le Madelaine, Lousiana Pizza Kitchen to name a few...all within a quick 15 minute walk!

Other Activities: Swamp tours, French Quarter Tours, Cemetery Tours, Walking, Jogging, Bicycling, Rollerblading and Horseback riding on the Mississippi River Levee. Easy access to Saints games at the Superdome and Hornets games at the Arena via S. Claiborne Avenue. Live music nightly at the Maple Leaf Bar on Historic Oak Street. You'll enjoy your stay from start to finish.

Very Clean and well decorated

Submitted: May 11, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
This apartment was very clean and well decorated. There was plenty of space for 6 of us to stay for three nights. It has 2 full bathrooms which is also a huge plus! Lenora was responsive and very helpful with the reservation and while we were there. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans making it easy to have a nice meal at home. The nearby park was perfect for an afternoon walk and the house was very close to public transportation (I think it was the #16 bus that takes you right to the French Quarter). I would definitely recommend this apartment for a stay in New Orleans!

Great location

The Claiborne is in a great location with adequate parking. Nice tiled floors. We were a party of 7 for which one slept on the couch quite comfortably. The bedding and towels were adequate. Fully stocked Kitchen which we really only used the coffee maker not wanting to cook on vacation! We did have to buy coffee filters. There was a nice welcome basket with small bottles of wine, jellies etc. We encountered a few problems (such as tub & shower issues, lack of hooks for towels and dirty living area rug) which we addressed with the owner and were assured these would be taken care of. I am certain this is true as our correspondence with them has been very polite and respectful. The owner also responds quickly when contacted.

Great Place Except for the Noise Above

We found the property to be as advertised and was enjoyable other than the loud noise overhead each night in the front bedroom off the kitchen. It seems the occupants, a big dog, and other rolling sounds and heavy objects dropped were a regular feature between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. each of the three nights we spent there.

Disappointed

I don't know how to start this review. I had such high hopes for my first experience with HomeAway. The decor was not to my taste, but I can't really complain about that because taste is a very personal thing.

We were a party of five...there was a couch that held 3 people...the rest of us had to sit in kitchen chairs. This was not a comfortable arrangement and we spent as little time in the apartment as possible. Each of the 2 bathrooms had a roll of toilet paper on the holder, but no extra rolls...3 of our 5 people were female. Needless to say, we had to go out and buy toilet paper. The freezer had an ice maker which did not make ice because there was no water supply to the freezer. There was 1 plastic ice tray in the freezer...totally inadequate for 5 people. There were no towel bars in the bathrooms to hang wet towels on...also no hooks in the bathrooms to hang up a robe or a pair of pajamas. The lighting in the master en suite bath was totally inadequate for putting on makeup or brushing hair. Both bathrooms had dirty tubs and the hall bath had duct tape over the overflow valve in the tub. My daughter got out a rag to use and a false eyelash fell out of it into the BR sink!!! Disgusting! The shower head in the en suite BR was horrible. Decent shower heads are not expensive. Back to the kitchen...there was a very small garbage can that would have been more suited to a bathroom, size wise. There was a nice coffee maker, but the coffee filters did not fit the coffee maker! The lighting in the whole apartment was awful...tiny lamps with bulbs that had a harsh glow. The lamp shade in the den/kitchen was crushed on the bottom. One of the aqua blue printed pillowcases in the master bedroom had what appeared to be bleach stains on it.

I think if the owners would spend 2 or 3 nights in the apartment, it would be helpful. The apartment has potential, but more attention to details and the basic needs of the renters is needed.

I know that this has been a rambling review, but I wrote down things as they came into my mind. One more thing...the streetcar does run in front of the house, but we were not made aware of the fact that there is repair work going on and it is not possible to ride all the way to Canal St.

Highly Recommended!

We visited New Orleans for the first time with our family of 6 and our small dog. The Claiborne is a great place; roomy, clean and comfortable, one of the lower apartments in a large house. The home is quiet and we couldn't hear anything from the other units. It is well kept with friendly, quiet neighbors and easy parking.

The Uptown neighborhood is very nice with some large older well kept homes mixed with smaller homes. We were hesitant to go to New Orleans in July, but the weather was more comfortable than in Denver during our stay.

There are some very good neighborhood restaurants within a few blocks. We would walk up to Thai Basil for a dessert of mango sticky rice at night, then stroll around the neighborhood. A grocery store and a Walgreens are located in the opposite direction.

The location is perfect, quiet but close to downtown and the Quarter. You can take the Charles Street Trolley, which runs directly in front of the Claiborne to save the hassle of driving home after too much fun. There is a park less than a block away where we'd walk our dog and meet some of the neighbors. Extremely nice people there!

Excellent home-base for excursions into the quarter and gulf coast. We hope to stay here the next time we come to New Orleans! The unit was more than described, the issue of not enough glassware has been resolved (mentioned in previous review) and communication with the owner was excellent. I will recommend the Claiborne to anyone I know who is thinking of going to New Orleans.

The home itself is very beautiful, and I would recommend to anyone that if you truly want to enjoy the comforts of feeling like your at home then, this would be the perfect place to stay!! The spacious 3 bdrm 2 bath home clearly was enough room for our "Girls Get a Way" and so much more. The beds were very comfortable we slept like babies, and the kitchen, and living room has such a cozy feel along with everything you need to cook meals inside. I will return to new orleans to stay here this time with my husband and children... The Claiborne is THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!!

Our Stay at the Claiborne

4 of 5
Submitted: June 7, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
The Claiborne was a great pick for us for a week stay in New Orleans. Traveling with family members, we didn't want to stay in the heart of the action, so Carrollton was the perfect location, situated in a neighborhood setting with its own eclectic atmosphere and lots of public transportation to get us around. I give one star for the apartment itself, which had plenty of room for five adults for the week, with the convenience of a kitchen. I give one star for the nice neighborhood setting and lots of great restaurants. Another star for the public transportation that takes you just about anywhere, and allows for either a longer scenic ride via the trolley, or a quick route to downtown New Orleans, allowing us to park the car and leave it for the week and not have to worry about driving and finding parking. Another star goes just for being so near the heart of New Orleans without the hassles of being in the heart of the city (noise, no parking, etc.). The only reason I didn't give the fifth star was because of aggravating second floor tenant who took our laundry out of the common dryer, threw it on top of the dryer before it was done, and used the time we paid for to dry their own things. Not once, but twice. If you don't plan to do laundry while you are there, it won't be an issue. Overall, a nice place to stay.
