Photos and Description of the Manistee vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 6

We are a small northwestern Lake Michigan port town. Our property is located approximately eight (8) blocks south of the downtown business district. The home is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood. Our town is steeped in history from the lumbering era and many of the Victorian homes have been restored to perfection. Our home has been completely remodeled and work was finished early August 2011. We feel this is a perfect place for family vacations and weekend getaways for anyone who enjoys being 'up north' -- near the lake and the great outdoors. We welcome fishermen, golfers, snowmobilers, skiers, hunters, and people who just plain like to relax!

The envy of the weekend!!

One of the main reasons we chose Colleen's Cottage was that they accepted dogs. The other reason is we have two children and both were in a wedding that weekend; we needed space this particular weekend! We knew a hotel wasn't going to work and could not have been more pleased with the house.

As you can see in the pictures, the exterior is lovely. The bright interior was even better and laid out perfectly. It is so functional. As you walk in the front door there is a small "landing area" with a bench and some coat hooks. To your left is a half bath and up 2 stairs is a well-planned kitchen w/ eating area. Walking straight toward the living area you'll pass a small (expandable) table. Great for cards or a board game, or if you had more than just 4 for a meal. They have a nice flat screen tv and an assortment of dvds to watch, board games or books to read.

Next is one of the best parts of the layout. Just before you get to the loveseat is a doorway on the right leading to the bedrooms. As you walk into the doorway you enter this open area, maybe 8 x 8. On your left is the full bath and then the largest of the bedrooms. On your right are the two other bedrooms; in front of you is a closet filled with extra linens and games. Of course, each room was perfectly appointed with plenty of space and each room had a tv.

What I loved so much was that because of the open space as you enter this "wing" we never felt on top of each other. It poured rain from Sat. morning to Sunday night, so when we weren't at the actual wedding or reception, we were sorta stuck in the house. Our relatives were so jealous that they had only their hotel rooms. We invited some of them over on Friday and Sunday evenings and it was great. We had conversations going on in the kitchen, the living room and children were in the bedrooms. Everyone was happy.

Another bonus of this layout is that if you had small kids who needed to be in bed earlier, there was plenty of space (and two doors) between the living area and the bedrooms. A child or infant could easily sleep and the other people in the home would not disturb them.

The owners of this home are extremely friendly and accommodating. We forgot our tie-out for our dog and Colleen offered one from her home.

The worst part of this home is that I'm going to be in competition with my own family for future stays.

I would go on more about this home, but I'm only allowed so many characters. :)

We couldn't have been more pleased with the cottage for our stay in June. The house had everything we needed and then some. It was very clean, cozy and had plenty of room for my daughter's family of 4 grandchildren to join us later in the week. We were pleased that they allowed us to bring our dog, Jack, who loved the house and all the neighbors! The beach was a short distance away and very clean. Just perfect for the evening sunsets. Anything we needed was promptly provided and it was everything the description of the house described. My daughter even said she would love to come up her for her own vacation, and we would too. Thank you again for a wonderful time!

A vacation to remember....

I made the reservations in hopes that my husband & I would have a quiet, relaxing week but never anticipated how awesome it would truly be.

Jon & Colleen have created a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel welcome as well as cared for. The home itself was inviting; knew I'd made the right choice as soon as I walked in the front door. The bedrooms are spacious with comfy cozy beds...... ours made me sleep so peacefully I actually was getting over 2-3 hrs of more sleep than I usually get at home by the second night. The living room & kitchen are both so spacious; lots of room to move around even if you had a larger group/family filling up the house.

The neighborhood is quiet & quaint but you're still close to shopping, restaurants, & the water. Lots of good restaurants to choose from but if you're in to cooking or grilling you'll have everything you need right at your fingertips.

Jon & Colleen have gone to great lengths to make your stay at the "little house" a memorable one. My husband & I are planning to make this a regular stay each year. We couldn't have asked for a better stay!!!!! Make your reservations..... you will not regret a moment of your visit.

I was so impressed with this house. It was great! Wonderful location and I would and do plan to stay here again. It was very clean, modern, comfortable, and had all the amenities you could hope for. I recommend Colleen's Little House to anyone looking for a nice getaway or planning a trip to ManIstee. Also, just down the road was a great little restaurant that served a delicious breakfast. Thanks Colleen for everything! We really had a nice time.
