views are great
The views are the very best and the condo has great space. That said, there were problems. Wi-fi never worked in the condo, my husband had to go down to the office of the next door complex to get connected. As he works on vacation this was a real pain. There is a safe, but no combination. One set of keys so if you go in different directions, some one may get locked out. Don't get locked out before 9 in the morning or after 8 because there is no one to let you in. If there is a vidio library we never saw it and I don't know what you would play it on. There was an ipod dock but we didn't have an ipod. Never saw a barbeque. The beds are hard as rocks, very firm mattress on concrete. With no air conditioning in June, you need to sleep with all the windows open. This makes it like sleeping in a wind tunnel. A squall came up early in the morning on the second night and when my husband got up to try and close the windows he took a header on the stairs down into the living area and landed in 1 1/2 inches of water that had flooded the area. Thank God he wasn't hurt badly because there is no phone to call for help and none of the pay phones close by work. The hot water went out 3 times and the cold was out one day. Every problem fixed once someone arrived on site. Our directions said to look for the sign for the condos near the end of Half Moon Bay. There is no sign and the entrance is behind other structures and not easily visible. We were also looking for the white building shown on the web site. It was painted blue 2 years ago. I would think the condo is nice in the cool season but we would never go back in the heat and humidity of the summer. This was our 5th return to the area so we know what other places offer.
Owner's Response: This review proves the point that you just can't please everyone (even though we try). We are very conscientious and want to accurately represent the property so I will address the statements made in the review.
First of all I am happy that they found the views and the space to be the very best and that the management staff addressed their needs in a timely manner.
That said, let me address the "problems".
The Wi-fi has 3 connection points available in the unit. Unfortunately internet service is not as reliable in Mexico as it is in the USA and Canada. We are installing an additional broadband internet service this summer to make it even better.
The safe is the kind you have in a hotel where you set your own combination (instructions are provided). It would sort of defeat the purpose to have fixed combination safe.
Extra key sets to the apartment are available. One only has to ask.
The video library is in the office, the grill is in the pantry.
The "I pod dock" works with any smartphone which the guest would be expected to bring themselves. There is a CD player attached for those who prefer that.
If one leaves the windows open in a rainstorm, it is true that water will enter the unit. I have no control over that.
Apparently there was a storm while they were there and the power to the entire area went out several times affecting the lights, water pumps and hot water heater
There is a sign for the condo.
In this day and age, I don't know anyone who doesn't have a cell phone and they work fine down there.
The beds are great with new mattresses. My family finds them to be extremely comfortable but everybody has their own preferences. They complained to my neighbor that they were too hard and he graciously gave them an egg crate to put on top of the mattress and a flashlight when the power went out. Interesting that they made no mention of that.
It is warmer in summer than in the winter however the ocean breezes usually keep it cool. We go down for a couple of weeks each summer because it is usually cooler than where we live in the USA.
There is no picture of the outside of the building on the website so the remark about looking for a white building because that's what was on the website is rather puzzling.
We invite everyone to come to Akumal and enjoy this beautiful and magical place.
