Live INSIDE the walls of one of the most beautiful, vibrant, perfectly preserved medieval towns in Umbria: This is Paciano!! Paciano has won awards for being the 'European Most Perfect Village.

Live in a cozy 15th century home that was formally an Olive shop. This home comes with a private garden and amazing views filled with light from many windows, gather in the spacious living/dining room or relax in the loft to do some reading or to get away. Also, there is a stunning panoramic view of town, rolling countryside & Lago Trasimeno. A more tranquil spot cannot be imagined!

If you so choose, you only have to take mere steps to the vibrant piazza life. There is a cafe within a few meters from the front doorway. You can then pick up your groceries and stop at the local meat market which are also within steps away from your getaway home and new cucina!! There are also numerous restaurants and activities within this walled town..Literally meters from your doorstep.

Local stuff to do: Since Umbria and Paciano are so centrally located, there is so much at your fingertips to do.. If you decide you want to be adventorous and do some outdoor activity, you can go hiking, horseback riding, boating,etc.. All with 5-15 minutes from here. If you want to venture out to the Capital of Umbria (Perugia), it is just a short drive to go. There is Wine tasting locally or you could take a short drive over to Tuscany and go to a Chianti Wine tasting.. We often go to the local towns of Orvieto, Montepulciano (Wine), Assisi (A must see), Florence, Todi, Pienza,etc... They are all at your finger tips..

Also, what is very nice is to soak in the town of Paciano itself...There are always concerts, festivals, etc going on in the Piazza or the park just outside the walls and steps away from your door. It is a very safe town in which kids can roam free within inside the walls and enjoy their time playing without fear of the Italian drivers:).

Location Info: The central location of the casa is between Florence and Rome on the Tuscany/Umbria border places you within a short drive of a number of Italy's most visited destinations, including Siena (90km/55mi), Assisi (60km/40mi), Orvieto (65km/40mi), Perugia (30km/18mi), Montepulciano (35km/22mi), Cortona (30km/18mi), Citta della Pieve (17km/10 mi), Castiglione del Lago and Chiusi (both 13km/8mi). Additionally, the high speed train stops at the local station in Chiusi less than 10 miles from the villa and will drop you in the center of Florence in 1 hour or in Rome in 1.5 hours. The charming hilltop town of Paciano, which was named by the Italian government as one of Italy's most beautiful is just down the road from a slightly larger town of Panicale. A number of restaurants are within a few miles of the villa including my favorite, Il Casale, which is located on the hillside outside Paciano only about a mile from the town center.

Paciano, Home away from home!

My husband Brian and I had an amazing opportunity to spend our honeymoon in the beautiful country of Italy and we had such an unforgettable time! First, we started off with a few days in Venice then we hopped in our little Fiat Panda rental for a 4 hour road trip to the lovely city of Paciano, Umbria.

Paciano was by far our favorite place to stay. It is surrounded with countryside full of rolling hills with vineyards and olive groves, as well as fields of sunflowers and poppies. We spent 10 marvelous days in this quiet, cute walled city which was so fun to walk around and explore, as well as living among the locals with no touristy distractions. When we first arrived we were greeted by a english speaking neighbor who helped us get settled in to our lovely vacation rental and was available to us if ever we needed anything or had questions. The rental is upstairs, has 2 cute bedrooms, 1 with 2 twin beds, and 1 with a large bed. There is also an upstairs loft area, 1 bathroom, a spacious living room with pull out couch bed, cute little dinning area, and lovely views of the city streets. It felt like home away from home - relaxing, safe and a place you love being. On days when we weren't off on an adventure, we loved opening the windows and listening to the quiet, the singing of the locals or enjoying the daily life within this town. We were also able to do laundry, cook at home, watch some movies and play games. The property was clean and well taken care of by the owner/property managers and we would definitely recommend staying here to all of our friends, family and acquaintances wanting to enjoy an Italian vacation . There is a bar/cafe, a little grocery, a butcher, pharmacy and a few restaurants within the walls, and the people are very friendly.

One of our favorite things about this place is how central it is to many surrounding cities/attractions that we wanted to visit such as Panicale, Lake Trasimeno, Castiglione del Lago, Assisi, Sienna, Montopulchiano, Pienza, and Orvieto. They were all very easy to get to, and they vary from 5 - 20 minutes drive. Others took a little longer such as Florence, where we took an hour/hour and a half train ride for a lovely day trip. Paciano also had events within and around the city. We enjoyed a blues/jazz concert in the Piazza one evening. Another night we learned of fireworks/festival right down the road!

Our last 3 days we spent in Rome (a 4 hr drive) but we missed Paciano! We hope to go back one day!
Owner's Response: We are glad you had such a wonderful time. We hope to have you guys again. Congratulations on your marriage and we were so happy to be a part of making it memorable.

a perfectly picturesque, friendly town

I loved this little town and the apartment was perfect for me. It had been completely redone, everything was clean and bright. It had a wonderful view of the Umbrian/Tuscan hills and the lake nearby. But what was so wonderful about it was that it was just inside the old walls of this tiny medieval town. I could hear the lilting voices of the local Italians wafting up to my window as they walked to work or went home from the local bar at night (not loud, just pleasant). I could also see and hear everyone who returned to the town, as the parking lot was just five or six doors down. I would wave to my friends, meet other foreigners on the way back from their day trips and say "Ciao" or compare notes on nearby sites.

I was only a few doors down from the main bar in the town, where I could get a cappucino and pastry in the morning or a prosecco in the evening. This town has a lot of English speaking ex-pats from other countries, so one doesn't have to be fluent in Italian to get around. There is a great butcher across the street and down three or four doors, a small grocery just a two minute walk, also.

I could drive to and visit Perugia or Montepulciano or other charmig cities as a day trip, go to vineyards for wine tastings, cheese making farms, or hop on a train that was about a fifteen minute drive away and visit Florence or Rome.

But what I thought was the really nice thing about this town was the friendliness and charm. I got to know the owners of the bar, the butcher, the local artisan, the postman; everyone was friendly. Margaret, a wondefully friendly woman from Boston, who lives just down the street, knows everyone and the area and gave me the scoop.

The apartment has a garden with a pergola, table and chairs where I sometimes took my Italian lessons and a cantina, where you can store bikes, etc. The beds were comfortable and it could hold four or five friends or a family easily.

One does need a car, however, unless you are in really good shape to walk or bike the hills. But I was very wistful as I drove away and saw the fields of sunflowers opening. Their bright, sunny faces were a perfect symbol of this cute town's spirit. I will miss it and will try to go back.
Owner's Response: Rosemary- Thank you for your review and we look forward to seeing you and your friends next year hopefully. Yes what makes our town and area so beautiful is because its the real Italy. The people are genuine and friendly, the food is incredible and the sites to see are within reach.
I am glad you enjoyed the garden to relax, my favorite part of living inside the town walls. Isn't it great to wake up and walk a few meters to the local market and local caffe:).

Thanks Again,

AC

Perfect Getaway in a beautiful home and town

My friend and I only had a set budge for our ten day business/holiday trip in Umbria/Tuscany and Rome. What was great about Paciano is within one hour we were in Florence but there is SOOOO much beauty, history, food, wine and little tourist hassle within meter/miles from our front door step. The owners told us about their "Award Winning" little town.. it is just simply refreshing and peaceful but also within grasps to do so much more. We stayed just long enough to make the Perugian Chocolate Festival. (Which is only minutes away). We made treks to Assisi, Pienza (Cheese), Montalcino for Brunello WIne,etc. On quiet days we would take a walk over to Panicale or a short drive to to the lake (Castiglione Del Lago). A town with a massive castle on the lake. On the days we didn't travel we would sit out in the back garden under the pergula to drink wine and look at the Tuscan Mountains. Now back to the rental. The rental has a brand new kitchen that was equiped very well but could have used some more table settings. The furniture is all new and the bathroom was brand new also. We have stayed at other Italian villas and places that offer both but not as clean and new. The loft was great to want to get away and read at night or chill. We would cook and listen to the people walking in thru the porta. (No cars inside the walls, so you can hear conversations in Italian or music playing in the Piazza on weekend nights). Daily routine would be to get up and literally walk 50 steps to get a coffee and brioche. If we needed something for the house the market is literally next door to the cafe. You never had to leave the confines of the walls if you didn't want to. Restaurants, gelato, market, etc. Parking was just outside the wall and just steps away from the house. There is a mix of Italians, Brits and Americans,.. All very friendly and very helpful. The owners left us with some cheese from Pienza, Wild Boar and a bottle of Umbrian Wine. Just a great 10 days of fun and relaxtion. If you want the best of both worlds for a vacation the spot and the house were a perfect get away. We look forward to taking our wives to this getaway and particually this wonderful home. Thanks for a great time and making everything seamless.

Owner's Response: Thanks Robert for your review and you seem to like all the reasons that my family and I love Umbria so much. Thanks for all the great feedback and since you last stayed we have added more servings, utensils and actual cooking ware too.
There is so much to do and see and the next time you come it will be a whole new adventure. We have added some brochures of new activities, museums, 5 star restaurants, etc to the holiday adventure.

Grazie,
