Photos and Description of the Saugatuck / Douglas vacation house rental
5 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, sleeps 14

Relax and enjoy your carefree and elegant vacation rental in Saugatuck / Douglas Michigan, near the shores of Lake Michigan with a view of Saugatuck harbor. This historical home, built in the 1870's by shipbuilder James Tisdale, has been painstakingly restored to its former grandeur while providing modern conveniences and classic surroundings for today's vacation traveler.

Situated on the 'dunes side' of Saugatuck and nestled in a wooded area shaded by 100-year-old oak trees, the stately vacation rental home is lavishly bordered by lawn, bushes, and lovely flower gardens. Until recently the property was operated as a B&B (known as Deer Creek Cottages).

Newly reinvigorated, Great Lakes Manor and cottage rentals operates as an five-bedroom historical home and three cottages with own private bath, kitchenette, deluxe bedding and amenities. The informal country retreat is suitable for couples, families with children, and seniors.

The historical manor house has been lavishly appointed in muted hues, with a comfortable mix of antiques and traditional comforts in all living areas. The updated kitchen is fully-equipped to satisfy the most discriminating culinary talents. And the five guest rooms, named for each of the five great lakes (Superior, Michigan, Erie, Huron and Ontario) feature plush bedding and deluxe furnishings, and some feature personal tv's and/or fireplaces.

Close to the world-famous Oval Beach (rated by Conde Nast Traveler as one of the top 10 beaches and top 25 shorelines in the USA ) and within walking distance of the oldest operating chain ferry in the us, Great Lakes Manor is your perfect family vacation destination available for year-round rental.

Great Lakes Manor and cottages is a retreat for nature-lovers of all ages. It sometimes feels like a family reunion among perfect strangers. Children spy on deer, rabbits and turtles or play hide 'n seek with frogs in the garden pond. Parents relax in the backyard hot tub while steaks sizzle on the grill. Others read quietly on the manor's front porch while a perfectly content guest takes an afternoon nap in a tree-hung hammock.

Close to everything, but still away from it all

We love the location of your place...close to downtown Saugatuck and Lake Michigan but off the busy streets tucked away in a peaceful setting. We enjoy getting on our bikes and riding down the street to Lake Shore Drive where we can leisurely take in the coastline. This last time we stayed, the weather was so beautiful that we spent time each day sitting relaxing by the pond and enjoying all the birds singing. Our cottage was so clean and fresh. We are definitely coming back!

Charming and relaxed getaway

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at Great Lakes Manor. The house and the grounds are beautiful and immaculately kept. The main house is very warm, charming and inviting.

Loved the tiled bathrooms--they're beautiful. And loved the large shower in the bathroom. The beds are very comfortable and large. Enjoyed eating breakfast out on the screened porch.

Took a nice nap in the hammock out by the delightful little frog pond. Enjoyed sitting in the hot tub after a long day of sight-seeing in the beautiful town of Saugatuck. And later enjoyed relaxing in the rec room with its comfortable sofas and foosball table.

There's a nice view of the harbor right outside the front door, and a nice secluded back area of the house with just trees around.

Todd has done a wonderful job remodeling the house and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay for a couple of days or an entire week!

We spent 4 nights at the Manor and the cottages for a family reunion. There were 15 of us total. Three flew in from Europa;one from New Zealand. We had considered a hotel earlier, but when we checked it out, we realized there is no cozy and convenient way to meet, chat, hang out and relax with each other in a hotel. This place was the absolute best place we could have picked for our stay. While some of us liked the privacy, they stayed in the cottages; others were more attracted to the ornate and very accommodating bed rooms with gorgeous bathrooms. The cottages have everything needed and the kitchen was well suited to accommodate all our needs with every possible supply thought of. The grounds of the place is very attractive with plenty of space and ambiance for large or smaller parties to chat and enjoy the quietness. The decoration of the Manor is distinctly Victorian and gives it an ambiance of the past that made our stay so special. Each cottage has its own deck with chairs. The restaurants in the area are superb. We can especially recommend Fennville Station in Fennville, a mere 10 minute drive. We had a superb dinner there in a refurbished 1940s railroad car. The Dutch Chef, Hans Riem is par excellence. Don't forget the deserts. They are the best. Saugatuck has great shopping. The beaches are excellent and very nice for long walks.
