A retreat where the desert comes to you

My wife and I were looking for someplace that would serve as a comfortable "base" for our forays into the desert. We have visited other places around the country and found we are very good at working with a minimum of space as long as it has a kitchen and a comfortable bed. Pat's place looked good online and we were intrigued by a location outside of the city, something we hadn't considered. Suffice it to say that we could not have been more pleased with our choice. It is spacious, the kitchen is huge, the bedroom ideally located with an enormous walk-in closet, and there’s a space with a desk for your laptop if you have to bring it.
The description was accurate, directions straight forward, and we found the house to be neat as a pin and very well maintained. By our standards Pat is a lovely host, leaving us to our stay but attentive to anything we might need. We found her warm and very generous, wonderful to talk with and respectful of our privacy.
In this place we found the desert had come to us. Gambol Quail skittered just outside our bedroom window along with desert hare and cottontails and we watched a glorious full moon rise over Panther Peak.
Stay here if you really want peace away from the din of the city. Stay here if you love hiking in the Sonoran Desert, literally steps away from the Saguaro National Park West. Stay here if you would enjoy the company of two Scottish terriers and a Pekinese character named “Butter Bean”. Stay here if you love the desert first, and Tucson second.
We cooked most all of our own meals (dietary needs) but didn’t mind the scenic 15 min. drive through the National Park into town. Returning from a day of hiking or visiting museums or Tohono Chul, this place was a welcome friend.

A Beautiful Home Awy from Home

Pat’s rental is the perfect place for people who love nature, enjoy their morning coffee sitting and watching the sunrise and their evening cocktails marveling at the colorful shadows on the mountains, and appreciate the mysterious beauty of the desert. Since this quiet rental is “a bit of country” situated in the desert, we took daily walks in the desert just outside the back yard. With a vegetation guide, we could identify many of the cactus plants, and marvel at the little critters surviving in this unique environment. On many evenings we would hop in the hot tub and listen to the coyotes howl in the distance. Rabbits, quail, and little desert squirrels are plentiful right outside the window. All this and still just a short, beautiful, winding drive away from the city. The best part was that we didn’t need to bring anything but ourselves. You can buy groceries in town or at one of the two convenience stores down the road. Everything else is provided, and the roomy rental gave us plenty of space to putter around, read, or work on correspondence, etc. Pat was our best resource to give us touring, entertainment, and eating-out recommendations.

MILLION DOLLAR DESERT VIEW

We loved the spectacular views of Panther Peak and the Saguaro Desert from the back yard of this property!! The solitude, with the background sounds of the
desert birds was so conducive to our relaxation. My husband loved soaking in the hot tub in the evening. We enjoyed our lovely bedroom with a large flowering desert schrub outside the windows. This property suited us very well and was very well-stocked, clean, and attractive. Anything that we needed, we were able to obtain from our very gracious hostess. We enjoyed having our landlord so
accessible; her outgoing personality, knowledge of Tucson, and world travel adventures greatly enhanced our visit. We were amused and entertained by her friendly dogs who bonded with us immediately. If you are looking for solitude, beauty, and relaxation; this is the place!
