Comfort is here!

6 of us rented the cabin for our New Year weekend and it was an amazing getaway for us. We all had a real nice time. Its warm and cozy and directly opposite to the river. Property owener Dan is very helpful. He checked on us and made sure we were comfortable. This is also only 6 mi away from the Escanaba state park and the drive to this place is very scenic. The ski resort is also like an hour from here. I totally recommend this place for winter and summer.

Christmas Cottage

The perfect cottage for our Christmas visit with family in the UP. This was the perfect place for the two of us to stay while visiting a large family gathering in the Escanaba/Gladstone area. The 30-minute commute between the cabin and my childhood home was well worth the peace and quiet we received each night after opening presents, playing games, eating and spending the day with family. The cottage is just off the major highway (major in the U.P is relative), and along a beautiful creek. The cottage itself was perfectly decorated, comfortable and had everything we needed. We even managed to maintain Christmas eve traditions watch Christmas movies on the DVD player and large television. A small Charlie Brown Christmas tree and a stocking made it feel like Santa might actually stop by. Because it was a white Christmas, the trees were covered in snow and it was gorgeous to see nature in the midst of winter. Unfortunately, we didn't get to take advantage of the river and it's fishing potential. I can see the potential to get up and cast a few lines just outside the cottage. Next time. Ultimately, we loved it and would recommend it to anyone...even year round if you enjoy skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, etc!

Second Time Around

My family and I spent another great week at this wonderful cottage.
It was very trying drive up(blew a wheel bearing on boat trailer), but as soon as we entered the driveway all our stress left us.
We spent a week fishing on the big lake and the river. The river produced numerous bass and tons of crayfish to keep my little guy happy. I rented a slip at the marina, and we had a great time fishing and boating on the bay. We landed dozens of good size salmon and walley and swam to our hearts content.
The cottage contained everything we needed. Nice beds, two bathrooms, AC, sat TV and plenty of cooking utensils. It was clean and the AC was great in the heat.
The area attractions kept us busy on a rain day. We explored Escanaba and ate at the various restaurants in the area.
As before, I will and did recommend this to my friends and relatives .
Thanks Dan for a great week.

Cottage was clean and comfortable and the washer-dryer was a real plus.Atv trails are right down the road and you can ride the atv's to the trails fron the cottage.JW Wells state park ia about 5 miles down the road and had a great beach with not many people.Fishing seems to be the main thing in the area and we watched people catch fish right in front of the cottage on the river. We wll try the fishing when we return.

We were looking to get away but since we have a young son, and an older dog, we didn't want to totally rough it. This cabin was the PERFECT choice. Right on Cedar River (my husband caught 6 bass right in front of the cabin!) and only a minutes drive to beautiful Lake Michigan beaches, this was the relaxing vacation spot we were looking for.

Yet the cabin was modern and totally comfortable. AC (the UP was in the midst of a heat wave so we really did need this), full kitchen, washer/dryer, two TVs and VERY comfortable beds. And the modern furnishings was a really nice surprise.

It's situated on a street with a lot of other cabins and permanent residences. And we met some really nice people.

I suggest a day of swimming at Fox Park. Beautiful beaches, warm water and not too many people.

And Cedar River is a short drive to Escanaba, which also had a beautiful beach.

We would definitely stay here again!

Small mouth bass biting at Cedar River

5 of 5
Submitted: June 6, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
I just rented the cabin so my sons from Indiana could have a place to fish and relax, while I was able to stay in Menominee with my Dad. I live in Colorado so it was a meeting point. We spent most days together...planning to fish, then fishing, relaxing, watching silly movies late into the night. My sons caught a total of 19 small mouth bass and one northern. Most of that action was on Wednesday when it was pretty cool out still. The fishing slowed down the next two days, but they still caught a few small mouth.
The cabin is exceptionally clean and pretty inside. I was fascinated by one big dresser one of the bedrooms and a big piece used for an entertainment center in the family room. We didn't cook much there but the kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, etc. There is a great big table perfect for meals and playing cards. We went into Menominee for the fishing stuff we needed and for groceries. A nice restaurant there is The Landing which has a less expensive menu if you go early. That's what we always do, and we weren't into dressing up that week so our clothes were OK for that time.
The Lighthouse Pub has a great perch lunch or dinner and my kids had that just as they were leaving to go back to IN. They said they would like to do the exact same thing at the exact same place... next summer. And we probably will.
There is a nice, but big dog up the road... and the neighbors were very good about retrieving her (she likes that spot for swimming). It's pretty funny until you start fishing. Again, they were down to retrieve her within a minute or two of her appearance each time she came to visit (that is, swim).
My son was glad he didn't bring his big boat, but he coveted a small fishing boat to troll up the river.
We had such a good tme. Thanks, Dan.

Fishing Trip

Our party was at the cabin Sept. 10-17, 2011. The cabin was great, lots of room in the cabin and a big yard.
The Satellite T.V. and dishwasher were a nice surprise. We caught over 22 walleyes during the week out of the mouth of the river on the reefs. The biggest was 27 inches. We also caught a 61 inch Sturgeon in the Menominee River. We also caught lots of bass, The monster weighed over 60 lbs. and took an hour and five minutes to get in. It is now a lifetime memory and is swimming to be caught again. It was a wonderful trip and the cabin is a short drive to the Marina where we kept one of the boats. We will be back.

Beautiful and Peaceful cottage on the river!

We just returned from an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautifully decorated cottage. We did not want for anything. Dan, the owner, is great to deal with. Very personable! The boys had a great time trying to catch fish in the very clean river. They didn't have much luck, but ended up jumping in and playing instead! There is also a great spot about 5 minutes up the road where you can go in the shallow part of the river and walk on the rocks and catch crawfish. Long walks in the morning were a great way to start the day. Very peaceful and nice area with friendly dogs at the neighboring houses! We rented ATV's from the Cedar River Plaza and had a great time on the ORV trails that are a few miles from the cottage. We are already looking forward to our stay next summer at the cottage on the river!

The pictures of this place do not do it justice. Although the description is spot on, there is so much beauty and serenity here it's fantastic. My husband, dog & I drove up from Chicago. It was an easy trek, and completely worth it. We rarely left the area. My husband caught several fish in the river - directly across the road (very nice and clean). Our dog was super happy with all of the land to roam around and explore. We enjoyed our stay and plan to return for a longer visit next time.
Dan - the owner - is a nice guy. He provides you plenty of info regarding the area, and the cottage is pretty well set with the essentials. He answered any questions we had very promptly as well.
If you're looking to escape and relax, fish, or have an outdoor adventure, than this is the place for you.
