Vineyard Haven House Rental Photos and Description
SIX BEDROOMS, TWO FULL BATHS, SLEEPS TEN. 3 QUEENS, 2 FULLS, 2 TWINS

FRIDAY TO FRIDAY RENTAL FOR TRAFFIC AND FERRY EASE. GREY GARDENS, an IN-TOWN rambling Greek Revival home, is just two blocks off Main Street shops and three blocks from the ferry and Owen Park Beach. The recently renovated interior is furnished to relax and be comfortable, and retains the wealth of c1800 molding and beautiful wood floors throughout. There are six bedrooms (one walk-thru) and two full baths, all bathed in light. The second floor bath is in the master suite, which also has a back outdoor stairway.

Located just out of the hubbub but within a couple of minutes from fresh coffee, and the Har Tru public tennis court is just over the back stonewall - just sign up in the hut and play the same day.

One does not need a car on island to enjoy all of the nearby activities. Grocery shopping and restaurants are just down the street, as is renown Bunch of Grapes bookstore, venerable Vineyard Playhouse and Kathryn Cornell theaters, and of course the Black Dog Tavern, including both of their tall ships.

The big kitchen is fully equipped. There's fishing gear, beach stuff, gas and charcoal BBQs, and a big picnic table in the pretty backyard. A/C in most bedrooms, big flat screen TV, and Wifi throughout. The house is super comfortable, in every respect.

BEACHES: Owen Park Beach is three blocks away and a great beach for kids as the harbor has no waves. It's also much quieter than the ocean beaches, there's always some action among the beautiful moored boats, and dogs are allowed all summer. It's great for a stroll or to spend the whole day. For ocean beaches, one can drive to Katama for South Beach; which is public with miles and miles of Atlantic ocean surf and beach. Nearby, with a Trustees of Reservations pass, one can drive on the sand way out on Norton Point, with Edgartown harbor on one side and the Atlantic on the other. It's breathtaking.

RESTAURANTS: A car is not needed to enjoy great dining in Vineyard Haven. Breakfast and lunch at Art Cliff , Waterside Market, or seafood from The Net Result. Dinner is within striking distance at Le Grenier, a top French restaurant renown for it's traditional French fare such as Lobster Normandy and Steak au Poivre, newly opened bistro Cafe Moxie, The Net Result, the best fishmonger and Lobster and sushi take out on the island, Saltwater, a beautiful contemporary space with a fresh, modern American menu and a pink sunset view of the Lagoon, and of course The Black Dog Tavern, housed in an historic woody tavern a few feet off the water. The take-out truck in the Art Cliff parking lot has lobster tacos and the best burgers you can imagine, truly. Kronig's grocery store is about a mile away and is upscale in nature and features breads and baked good from reknown Orange Peel Bakery in Aquinnah. The Scottish Bake house up State Road just a bit further, is a must - the best roasted garlic hummus and incredible fresh breads, including fresh gluten free. Great, fresh, farmy takeout all day.

BIKING AND BOATING: Bike trails galore, circling the entire island. Don't miss the bike ferry from Aquinnah to Menemsha. Take a sail on Black Dog's tall ship, the Shenandoah, www.theblackdogtallships.com/, charter the Valora from Owen Park www.valoracharters.com, or rent a boat at Island Water Sports, www.boatmv.us/.

Parking for two cars at the house, with more parking on the street and at the tennis court behind. There are many churches and a synagogue within walking distance, as is a movie theater featuring different first-run movies nightly. The new MV Film center is also walkable.

Fortunate to be the current steward of this happy and historic home.

Light, bright, pretty, beloved, and super comfortable, including new mattresses throughout and fine linens. This is a very pretty old house and an easy place to stay.

You'll find the proximity to Main Street and the beaches is perfect, and Vineyard Haven is unspoiled, uncrowded, and convenient to everywhere on the island. A true haven for an easy, relaxing vacation.

Three families stayed here in early August 2012. Although it was our first time in this house it was our fourth visit to MV. This was one of our favorite houses. It is lovingly decorated and cared for, with everything you need for a pleasant stay and more. And the A/C was a very welcomed bonus! The owner and his caretaker were thoughtful and accommodating to our needs. The location is wonderful, only a couple of blocks from the town center. Would not hesitate to stay here whenever we visit MV and choose to stay in Vineyard Haven.

We had a wonderful stay on the Vineyard at Grey Gardens. The home was an exact match to the listing description. It was very clean and spacious with all of the amenities you could want. The owner stayed in touch throughout our visit, making sure we had an enjoyable stay. The location is great; within walking distance to everything you need, shopping, beaches, tennis, etc. Trudy, our pomeranian, loved it. The next time we are in the Vineyard, we will definitely stay here again.

Our extended family had the good fortune of staying at Grey Gardens the week of June 16th, 2012. The location was fantastic as only a short walk down to the center of Vineyard Haven with so much to do (shopping, restaurants and of course The Black Dog) and a Stop and Shop to get groceries. House was great for relaxing and bedrooms were numerous and comfortable. Kitchen has everything you need and plenty of beach chairs, etc. for when you visit the many beaches and if you like tennis, courts are right behind the house. Tim was also in contact with us before and during to ensure we had a great stay!

I loved spending a week and a half at this well-appointed and well-situated vintage New England house.

For one thing, there’s its location, a 5-minute walk to Vineyard Haven’s Main Street, so you can browse at Bunch of Grapes, one of the country’s most outstanding independent bookstores, or buy coveted kitchen items at Le Doux, or shop for groceries or souvenirs or t-shirts or luxury clothing. As if that’s not enough, you can take a swim at Owen Park Beach, free and open to all.

If you’re interested in MVY, you’re probably wanting to eat great seafood. Which is why it’s so great being not more than a 10-minute walk to Net Results, the superb fish store/restaurant. That’s next door to Art Cliff Diner, arguably the best breakfast/lunch place on the whole island (at least judging from the long lines). On Main Street there’s also several excellent coffee shops. And a drugstore. And, no surprise here, lots of places to buy t-shirts. Oh wait, did I forget to mention the ubiquitous Black Dog? Well, it’s there, too.

Tim’s house, built ca 1840, is exemplary of the historic nature of Vineyard Haven. It’s a charming neighborhood, no two houses precisely the same, but all fitting together harmoniously.

There’s tennis courts behind the house, an outdoor shower stall, and a crushed-shell driveway. There’s wildly comfortable furniture, all the kitchen utensils you could want, excellent linens and towels.

Tim’s house has been put together lovingly. You’ll feel that the moment you walk in the door. Have a great time! We did.
