Idyllic Farmhouse in Correze

Just back from our second holiday at this delightful place. The description of the property is totally accurate. The farmhouse is comfortable and well-equipped, with masses of character and loads of space. The setting is lovely, with large areas of grass for games, secluded shady spots for dining outside, and a well-tended swimming pool in its own enclosed garden. The English owners, Ian and Suzanne, couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Their various animals, chickens, geese, dogs, cats, pigs etc add a lovely country feel. The tiny medieval village of Segur-le Chateau is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk away, mainly on country paths through the trees. Some sections are a bit steep, but good exercise.. Segur is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, an honour it richly deserves in our view. While it is small, and there are no shops to speak of, it is lovely, and unspoilt. Better still there are two restaurants and a good and inexpensive open-air cafe on or overlooking the village green and the river. We liked the very friendly cafe so much we visited it for lunch several times. There are other places of interest visit within easy driving distance if you feel the need to sightsee. These include 5 other "most beautiful" towns, and several local markets. Further away are the famous Dordogne attractions such as Rocamador, Les Eyzies, Lascaux and Collonges la Rouge. However we found these very touristy after the peace and tranquility of Segur. For food shopping and cheap petrol/diesel there is a large and recently upgraded Intermarche supermarket on the ouskirts of St Yrieu-la Perche, which is itself a thriving market town, just 15-20 minutes drive away.
Highly recommended if you want a quiet and restful holiday. Great for recently-retired folk like us and families with young children, but might be a bit too quiet for teenagers. Because of the various animals, you would need to check with Ian and Suzanne before taking pets.
Owner's Response: We are always delighted to hear that our clients have enjoyed their holiday with us.
Our animals have proved to be very popular with all our guests, young and old alike. We do not have that many and they are more like pets than farm animals. The Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs are probably favourite and of special interest at the moment as they have four little piglets to amuse and delight us all.
Our free-range chickens are particularly good layers and they produce lovely eggs that we are happy to sell to our guests.
