'Simply Wonderful'

Dean & Karen Southwell, Nottinghamshire
Review Submitted: September 9, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
A truly fantastic setting for any holiday. Lovely clean tidy and spacious property set in beautiful grounds. The perfect place to relax, swim, walk and forget about the hustle and bustle of U.K. life. Sue and Ian were very welcoming and helpful. I had always thought that there were too many places to see in the world without visiting the same place twice until this holiday. Although a tranquil village (and simply georgeous) we did enjoy the evening village get together BBQ when the place came to life. The nearby town of Pompadour with its impressive fortified castle is very pretty as were all the surrounding villages we went to. Marks out of 10? ....11 at least :)
Owner's Response: What a fabulous review, thank you very much!

Wonderful holiday

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this spacious gite. We were very fortunate with the weather and were able to enjoy the lovely pool every day. This part of France proved to be very beautiful and we had several lovely walks that began at the edge of the very large property. My grandsons loved the chickens and feeding our scraps to Mojo, the pig, was the evening highlight. We ate in both the restaurants in Segur and although they were quite different experiences we would recommend them both. The Monday evening market in Segur shouldn't be missed either, but you need to get there early if you want to eat. Suzanne and Ian were very friendly, but not intrusive at all and the eggs and local produce were delicious. You can't get raspberries like that in London! We would love to return in the future.

A Great Place to Relax

Mike and Liz Southampton, Hants, UK
Review Submitted: June 30, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
Just back from our third holiday at Le Grangreau. Once again we had a great time. The farmhouse is delightful, being spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. We particularly enjoy the very extensive grounds and the well looked after pool. Ian and Suzanne are the perfect hosts - not intrusive, very friendly, and available when needed.
The village of Segur is close at hand, and as lovely as ever. We particularly enjoy walking down to the excellent, very friendly, and inexpensive cafe on the green overlooking the river. The 2 restaurants in Segur are also good, as is the rather expensive Relais St Jacque in nearby Glandon. Lots of eateries, shops and a great Intermarche supermarket in St Yrieix, the local market town. If you like markets there are several in nearby towns.
.
We would recommend staying here to anyone who wants a relaxing and peaceful holiday in a lovely part of rural France. Just chill out, or visit some of the many places of interest nearby. We hope to be back again next year.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the excellent review - it will be an absolute pleasure to see you again.

During July and August every Monday evening, Segur le Chateau holds it's own farmer's market, with music, dancing, barbacue and oodles of local produce, (including snails, if you wish to try them!) and it is packed with the 'atmosphere de France'.

space for fun and relaxation

Clive & Trish Cambridge, England
Review Submitted: September 9, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
This large farmhouse provides comfortable accommodation and has a rustic charm. The owners are friendly and helpful, and can provide fresh produce which they grow themselves. The swimming pool was lovely - I only wish we'd had better weather to enjoy it. Segur le Chateau is a delight for those with an eye for a photograph, but allow more time than you think for driving elsewhere in the region.
Owner's Response: In comparison to England our roads are incredibly quiet and the surrounding beauty of the countryside in the region, the delightful towns, many boasting medieval buildings, Chateaux and delightful churches, in our opinion makes exploring here an absolute delight – granted you will need a good map!

Segur-Le-Chateau

Review Submitted: September 5, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had an lovely holiday and the farmhouse was very good spacious with all the essentials and the various animals add to the atmosphere. The village of Segur is beautiful (with a couple of decent restaurants) as is the countryside around. Suzanne and Iain were most welcoming and very helpful with any questions. We would certainly recommend staying here, especially people who like the countryside. On the down side there is not too much for teenagers to do with most attractions being a good drive away and the walk back from the village is a bit of a strain unless you are reasonably fit.
Owner's Response: It’s interesting that some people say it’s wonderful here for teenagers and some do not. We think that sometimes teenagers need a break from being a teenager and in our opinion this is the ideal place. There is plenty to do here, badminton, table-tennis, swimming, fishing, lovely nature walks etc. – not only does it give parents quality time with their children it’s much easier ‘on the pocket’!

Great Summer Treat

Chirudzulu Coventry
Review Submitted: August 27, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We had a fantastic time at Le Grangeau. The cottage was clean and tidy and very well looked after. The pool was excellent and even reasonably warm! We all enjoyed cooling off and the children were particularly content to splash around for hours (days?!) on end. They had a fine time too around the rest of the grounds; exploring, finding insects, meeting animals etc etc.
We went on long and short walks in the surrounding countryside and into Segur. The farmers evening there was fun and friendly and we also ate very well at the local restaurants. This is a beautiful part of France and we particularly enjoyed canoeing down stunning valleys and through remote woods and fields.
Suzanne and Ian who own Le Grangeau were lovely people who made us very welcome. Their help was discrete and pertinent.
I would recommend staying here to anybody. It is a peaceful yet stimulating place. You can lounge around relaxing, explore locally, walk to restaurants etc and go further afield as you wish. We all enjoyed ourselves enormously and we hope to return next Summer!.

Idyllic Farmhouse in Correze

MikeandLiz Romsey, Hampshire,UK
Review Submitted: June 25, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2008
Just back from our second holiday at this delightful place. The description of the property is totally accurate. The farmhouse is comfortable and well-equipped, with masses of character and loads of space. The setting is lovely, with large areas of grass for games, secluded shady spots for dining outside, and a well-tended swimming pool in its own enclosed garden. The English owners, Ian and Suzanne, couldn't be more welcoming and helpful. Their various animals, chickens, geese, dogs, cats, pigs etc add a lovely country feel. The tiny medieval village of Segur-le Chateau is a pleasant 15-20 minute walk away, mainly on country paths through the trees. Some sections are a bit steep, but good exercise.. Segur is classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France, an honour it richly deserves in our view. While it is small, and there are no shops to speak of, it is lovely, and unspoilt. Better still there are two restaurants and a good and inexpensive open-air cafe on or overlooking the village green and the river. We liked the very friendly cafe so much we visited it for lunch several times. There are other places of interest visit within easy driving distance if you feel the need to sightsee. These include 5 other "most beautiful" towns, and several local markets. Further away are the famous Dordogne attractions such as Rocamador, Les Eyzies, Lascaux and Collonges la Rouge. However we found these very touristy after the peace and tranquility of Segur. For food shopping and cheap petrol/diesel there is a large and recently upgraded Intermarche supermarket on the ouskirts of St Yrieu-la Perche, which is itself a thriving market town, just 15-20 minutes drive away.

Highly recommended if you want a quiet and restful holiday. Great for recently-retired folk like us and families with young children, but might be a bit too quiet for teenagers. Because of the various animals, you would need to check with Ian and Suzanne before taking pets.
Owner's Response: We are always delighted to hear that our clients have enjoyed their holiday with us.

Our animals have proved to be very popular with all our guests, young and old alike. We do not have that many and they are more like pets than farm animals. The Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs are probably favourite and of special interest at the moment as they have four little piglets to amuse and delight us all.

Our free-range chickens are particularly good layers and they produce lovely eggs that we are happy to sell to our guests.

Relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings

Lesley & Phil Peterborough
Review Submitted: June 22, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2008
Beautiful setting, very peaceful and every you would need for a relaxing holiday. The owners were extremely welcoming and always on hand to help with any queries. The accomodation was clean and comfortable with plenty of games and books etc. The pool area and gardens are fabulous and a particular feature of the property.
Owner's Response: It’s always a pleasure to meet new people and we work very hard to maintain the gardens, swimming pool and farmhouse to make sure your stay with us is as pleasurable as possible.

Whilst we endeavour not to intrude on the privacy of our clients and indeed respect the fact that people like to come here to ‘get away from it all’ - we live in a cottage on the grounds and are available should you require any help, advice or a little local information!
